He stood awkwardly, his internal emotions warring yet again. He wanted nothing more than to take her in his arms and hold her tight and close, never wanting to let go. He closed his eyes and pressed his cheek to her hair, breathing in the scent of her apple shampoo.

And that was all it took.

His arms lifted slowly, reluctantly, to wrap her into his embrace. One hand came up and curled softly along her shoulder, while the other pressed lightly against her back. He felt her stiffen slightly at first, but then she relaxed into him in the next breath. He sighed – the sound born from half-resignation, half-contentment. It felt good to have her in his arms…
