Beautiful morning to wake up to , just pure nature that’s the way it should be

these are part of a series I did on insomnia and the things I would see while I was awake in the late, late night/ early morning.

which, I never am.

I think you should view this large, as it looks kind of rubbish on flickr.

I gather and listen

awake and dreaming

In the dark with

eyes open, screaming

then everything shines

a memory gleaming

between space and time

awake and dreaming

Explored - Jan 13, 2012

» I'm still viewing some shots I made a few months ago. This 70-200 lens picks up light as no other lens. Very wicked. If I had pointed (angle) it a little bit more towards the sun it pops out a flare... every lens has it own manual, I'm still at page 1 ;)

Noticed this dog in a car beside me in traffic. The look in his eye the attentiveness in them got me.

Bernal Heights - San Francisco, CA (2015)

I never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the afternoon.

Yesterday I met up with Sofia and her boyfriend Erik. We had all brought some native american styled things with us and the location was just perfect (even though you can't see it in this photo..). My camera didn't really give me the colors I wanted, so I put my sunglasses in front of the lense and woop - nice effect!

I'm such a sucker for backlight....

In the quietness of a colorful fall sunrise, the only sounds heard coming from this farm site is the nicker of a lone horse and the quick grind of a car starting and the crunch of tires headed down the gravel lane to town for a day job.

An old barn is now squished between two silos and all three sit in the silence of oblivion, an abrupt change from just a decade or two ago.

My memories of waking up on the farm decades ago varied according to my age. As a tyke, my nights of winter slumber were interrupted by the booming yell of my father as he came to the bottom of the stair steps and with the shout of an arch-angel caused two of my older brothers to bolt out of bed in an effort to avoid him yelling a second time. In a few minutes I would hear our kitchen door shut and then the outside door would slam as my brothers headed out in the dark to milk a few cows and feed the hogs before going to school.

Summer mornings were different as our upstairs windows were open and as my older brothers trudged out to the barn in the early morning light I could hear their murmurs and occasional threats to one another. The sounds of cows eager to get milked and fed cut through the morning air and drifted upwards through the windows of my bedroom.

There was a reassuring routine and quiet morning sounds to our growing up years that I can still recall at a moment's notice over 75 years later. I am more curious now than ever to compare the loudness of my dad's voice in the mornings with the Shout that will take many of us home.

Diggin' in my Benching Vault

My wife and I went to the San Diego Zoo earlier this month and photographed this photogenic little creature during one of it's rare awake sessions. The sleep about 18 hours a day, as their diet of Eucalyptus leaves doesn't provide a lot of energy to them.

Other pictures that I have taken at our world famous zoo are in my San Diego Zoo album.
