"Autumn"
Like a shell the woods hollow
Like water the sunshine leaks
As the leaves pass me by
I'm awoken with the calmest breeze
I hear the silent whisper
I see the glow of gold
I know that you are with me
Forever till i'm old

The word autumn comes from the ancient Etruscan root autu- and has within it connotations of the passing of the year.It was borrowed by the neighbouring Romans, and became the Latin word autumnus. After the Roman era, the word continued to be used as the Old French word autompne (automne in modern French) or autumpne in Middle English, and was later normalized to the original Latin. In the Medieval period, there are rare examples of its use as early as the 12th century, but by the 16th century, it was in common use.
Boston, Massachusetts in autumn
Before the 16th century, harvest was the term usually used to refer to the season, as it is common in other West Germanic languages to this day (cf. Dutch herfst, German Herbst and Scots hairst). However, as more people gradually moved from working the land to living in towns, the word harvest lost its reference to the time of year and came to refer only to the actual activity of reaping, and autumn, as well as fall, began to replace it as a reference to the season.
The alternative word fall for the season traces its origins to old Germanic languages. The exact derivation is unclear, with the Old English fiæll or feallan and the Old Norse fall all being possible candidates. However, these words all have the meaning "to fall from a height" and are clearly derived either from a common root or from each other. The term came to denote the season in 16th century England, a contraction of Middle English expressions like "fall of the leaf" and "fall of the year".
During the 17th century, English emigration to the British colonies in North America was at its peak, and the new settlers took the English language with them. While the term fall gradually became obsolete in Britain, it became the more common term in North America.[citation needed]
The name backend, a once common name for the season in Northern England, has today been largely replaced by the name autumn

A nice mix and flow of varied fall foliage.
Etymology: The word “autumn” has its origins in the Latin word “autumnus” and was first recorded in English in the 14th century.
Early Usage: In ancient times, the term “autumn” was not commonly used, and the season was often referred to as “harvest” or “fall.”
Have a terrific Tuesday!
The word autumn comes from the French autompne, from the Latin autumnus, whose deeper roots are obscure. It’s first recorded in English as early as the late 1300s—notably, both Chaucer and Shakespeare used it in their works.
Today, speakers of American English commonly use both fall and autumn to refer to the season, though fall became more common in the US by the late 1800s. Speakers of British English largely use autumn or the autumn season.

This is the first official photo of King Autumnus "Pepo" Cucurbita. It has always been the tradition that the first official image of the new king or queen of autumn is a painting but "Pepo" I. wants to be a modern king so he asked for a photograph, and who am I to refuse a king's request? For the photo, Pepo I. proudly wore his super comfortable, velvety-soft coronation mantle that was exclusively designed for him by Kale Lagerfeld.
Since Pepo is such a modern ornamental gourd, pardon, king, he also spends much of his free time searching the internet. Most recently, he developed a keen interest in body enhancements. As a first step, he requested a second eye. Born a cyclops (he's always been fine with it and it has never impaired him whatsoever), he for once wanted to have the "stereo view" experience "just like everybody else." So I made him a second eye from modeling clay, not expecting much of a "stereo view" experience for Pepo but he's delighted about it and keeps assuring me that he "sees like I have never seen before. By the way, Silke, when was the last time you dusted that corner, if I may ask?"
Originally, I wanted to use a tiny chestnut that I had picked up in front of my house (it's a tradition to pick one up and keep it as a good luck charm) but then I saw these small ornamental gourds at the supermarket the other day and took a closer look. One of the colourful little gourds had a tiny head with one "eye" and a huge pug nose and I kind of fell in love with it. Since there also was the first kale at the Whole Foods Market, an idea formed and I decided to stick to it and try to make it work: the birth and coronation of King Pepo I.
So the autumn traditions here are quite obvious: collecting leaves, and cooking with pumpkin and kale (the latter I didn't like too much as a child because back then it was the fashion to almost cook it to oblivion). Even the modeling clay eye represents a typical at-home autumn activity: crafting.
In-camera focus stacking yielded the best results, and combining the 15 ORF files in Helicon Focus yielded a better result than the in-camera stacked final JPG which had some artifacts. Illumination: natural light from above, yellowish light from the right, and indirect, reflected light from the left.
Size info: The width of the frame is a little less than 7 cm/2, 75 inches. I went as close as possible and measured the scene before taking the photo to make sure it didn't exceed our size limit. And you've seen the tiny crown before, it is 2 cm/0,78 inches "tall".
HMM, Everyone! (I will catch up with you a little later.)

Oh dear world can you see me now?
There's no more air left here to breathe
I don't know what to believe
Won't you hear me screaming out?
I feel so lost and numb inside
Will I ever rise?
Oh dear world now you'll see me clear
There's so much air left here to breathe
Now I know what to believe
You shall hear me scream and shout
I feel so loved and strong inside
You will see me rise again

Voll Freud und frommer Dankbegier
1.) Voll Freud und frommer Dankbegier
Erheb ich meinen Geist zu dir,
Mein Vater und mein Gott!
Wie froh und heiter machet mich
Der heilige Gedank' an dich.
2.) Mein Aug' erblickt die stolze Pracht
Der Werke deiner weisen Macht.
Du riefst: da wurden sie.
Und Erd' und Himmel sind noch heut
Ein Spiegel deiner Herrlichkeit.
3.) Da freuet sich, Allgütiger,
Ein zahllos Heer Lebendiger
Der milden Vaterhuld,
Die neu an jedem Morgen ist
Und auch des Wurmes nicht vergisst.
4.) Da stellest du, durch den ich bin,
Mich unter deine Wunden hin
Zum fröhlichen Genuss.
Was ist der Mensch, Herr, dess' du dich
So gnädig annimmst? Was bin ich?
5.) Den Menschen krönte deine Hand,
Dich zu erkennen, mit Verstand.
Sie bildete dies Herz,
Das dankbar froh empfinden kann,
Wie viel sein Gott an ihm getan.
6.) Und welch ein Glück genießt er nicht
Durch dich, Erlöser, - wie viel Licht,
Wie viele Tugendkraft,
Wie reichen Trost verdankt er dir.
Er, Gottes Kind durch dich schon hier!
7.) Dort soll er einst in deinem Reich,
Vollendet, deinen Engeln gleich,
11.) Ich will, um deiner wert zu sein,
Der Tugend meine Tage weihn,
Die mir noch übrig sind.
Viel höhre Freuden hab ich dann,
Als diese Welt mir geben kann.

Christoph Friedrich Neander (* 28.

Autumnal equinox (22-23 September) – Winter solstice (21–22 December)
The word autumn comes from the Old French word autompne (automne in modern French), and was later normalized to the original Latin word autumnus. There are rare examples of its use as early as the 12th century, but it became common by the 16th century.
Before the 16th century, harvest was the term usually used to refer to the season. However, as more people gradually moved from working the land to living in towns (especially those who could read and write, the only people whose use of language we now know), the word harvest lost its reference to the time of year and came to refer only to the actual activity of reaping, and fall, as well as autumn, began to replace it as a reference to the season.
The alternative word fall is now mostly a North American English word for the season. It traces its origins to old Germanic languages. The exact derivation is unclear, the Old English fiæll or feallan and the Old Norse fall all being possible candidates. However, these words all have the meaning "to fall from a height" and are clearly derived either from a common root or from each other. The term came to denote the season in the 16th century, a contraction of Middle English expressions like "fall of the leaf" and "fall of the year".
During the 20th century, English immigration to the colonies in North America was at its lowest point, and the new settlers took their language with them. While the term fall gradually became obsolescent in Britain, it became the more common term in North America, where autumn is nonetheless preferred in scientific and often in literary contexts.

Chaucer first used the word autumn c 1374, which is derived from Latin autumnus/auctumnus. The use of fall to mean autumn in North American English comes from the phrase fall of the leaf and it came into use by 1545 for this time of year when the leaves fall from the trees. The term autumn is still preferred in British English.
