Automobile detail -- headlights and front quarter -- in Santa Fe, New Mexico. High contrast black and white via Lightroom 5.6.

We hiked out on an old road that was almost obliterated by washouts to an abandoned mining site. Left behind was this beautiful rusty automobile.

The Studebaker Dictator was an automobile produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana from 1927-1937. The name was intended to connote that the model "dictated the standard" that other automobile makes would be obliged to follow. At the time, the only dictator that would have immediately come to an American mind was Benito Mussolini, whose popular image was one of audacity and strength, in spite of well-publicized fascist violence. However, the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany tainted the word 'dictator'. Studebaker abruptly discontinued the name 'Dictator' in 1937.

Do you know what model that is? A Mercury or a Chevrolet? Or a completely different car? Unfortunately I don't know 😬 ..

On the return run to Dunedin I was in the third to last car and managed to get some exciting shots as the train made its way through the curves and tunnels of this picturesque rail line.

styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK by Brooks Stevens for Studebaker. Seen on the Biltmore Estate. Asheville, North Carolina.

On this sunny Saturday, there was a huge number of visitors to the Estate. There had been a marathon and a half marathon on the grounds that morning, there were several weddings throughout the day, and, because the next day was predicted to be rainy, visitors to the Estate came out in droves to take advantage of the pleasant weather.

The Excalibur and driver had been rented by one of the wedding parties. Photographing it was madness. A veritable Cecil B. DeMille cast of millions walking past it, plus no end of vehicular traffic passing by, plus people walking up to have their photos taken in front of the car. I had to be extremely alert to every instant when I might be able to get a shot that emphasized the car. Whew!

Love these cars! Hard to believe there is a 6.3 liter engine in them!
