It seems Jasper has become a bit of a night owl. He'll play a little bit in the morning but not as much as he used to. Night time is a different story. After dinner is cleaned up, we've run Jasper through his tricks, and played with him for a while, it's time for the humans to relax. But Jasper doesn't buy into that. Evenings shouldn't be wasted on TV in his opinion. So there is a daily choice of toy to torment our evenings. And at least every commercial break, we chase him around and play have a good time. He's over 12 and not getting any younger so we're happy to keep him engaged and active. And smiling from atop his Ottoman Empire.
Jasper's less than subtle hint to me that I should get up off my butt and chase him. This photo, of course, doesn't capture the sound that accompanied "hint". Repeated chomps of the jaw produced loud squeaks. I'm a little surprised that about a month since getting that ball, it's still in pretty good shape, squeaking as loud as ever

After a bunch of play, I asked Jasper to sit for a portrait. Please ignore the droplet dangling from his tongue. It was a bit warm, so his internal air conditioning system was on full 😎

Fun times with Moosey in the back yard. Jasper knows you have to stay active and happy to maximize life!
We celebrated Jasper's birthday over the weekend, even though his actual birthday is tomorrow, July 21. Jasper is turning 9 and he's added 3 new friends to his collection. There's Spencer the Sleuthy Sloth and the left, Betty Bunny in the middle and Bernie the Black Bear on the right. I'm happy to report that we're 2 days in with these new toys and no injuries. Bernie is kind of special in that he has a Velcro pouch in the back that contains his squeaker. So replacements are possible.
Jasper rushed me on the couch with Betty Bunny encouraging me to play. Doesn't he understand it's hard to get him in the frame when he gets so close? Good thing I had a wide angle lens on the camera 😜 And for the record, yes I set down the camera and played with Jasper
Across the plains of the Serengeti sprinted dogs with wild frisbee catch in their jaws. From Saturday morning when Jasper got to run his new frisbee through it's paces. Jean and I are on vacation this week in Oregon doing some waterfall, wildlife and winery viewing. Perfect, except for the lack of Jasper :-( Sorry if I don't comment much this week
You know, you work, and you work, and you work on your dog's diction. You train daily with lots of positive reinforcement and he comes out with, "Wanna do somefin?". Where did we go wrong?

Sometimes a bunny just gets in trouble and needs rescuing. Enter Jasper. Jasper went into the back yard only to find Betty Bunny flying through the air. Luckily, Jasper had his wits about him and managed to nab her from the air before any harm could befall her. Let's hope Betty's throat isn't too torn up after that catch 😮

At first, Jasper didn't seem pleased with the fact that I stitched Ceph up after he pulled Ceph's brains out (see first comment). But after we demonstrated that Ceph was fully ready to play again and back to his old jovial self, Jasper was quite happy. (You'll note that I'm no tailor. Can you say Frankenstitch?)
The Outback is the vast, remote, arid area of Australia. The term "the outback" is generally used to refer to locations that are comparatively more remote than those areas named "the bush" which, colloquially, can refer to any lands outside the main urban areas.
Jasper's energy level peaks when both Mom and Dad are able to join him for games in the back yard. Games like "Capture the Moose"
Some belated postings from Jan 26 (Australia Day). This is a national holiday and the weather was perfect so i set out on my bike to take some shots along the coast. This shot is of a yacht moored only metres from shore at Ocean Reef. Its a very quite spot as the beach cant be legally accessed by foot. I have a few more shots of this yacht It looked beautiful moored in this peaceful little bay. I think there were 2-4 people on board. You can see the blue water, the recreational craft in the distance and the people enjoying the water and lifestyle on the yacht. I love this series of shots as I believe it captures the lifestyle well on these beautiful sunny days.

Dash and Jayme joined us for Thanksgiving dinner last week. Dash was a perfect dog guest during dinner which we ate outdoors on our deck. And after dinner, he climbed right up on Jayme's lap as a good lap dog would
It's still the monsoon season here in Arizona which means the humidity is relatively high and the temps generally get up to about 105°F (41°C) in the late afternoon. So we play indoor games. While Jasper prefers more intellectual endeavors such as ball, hedgehogs or tug toy, he occasionally indulges Mom with a game of Scrabble.

I have a leather recliner in my office and Jasper often hops up there to supervise me. As you can see, its all rather boring business watching humans work.
Jasper agreed to do a nice pose for me as the sun started to rise behind him early one morning at the riparian preserve.

This shot is taken from the Mullaloo lookout and looks South over Key West Beach towards Mullaloo Beach. It is rare to see our beaches this crowded. Normally there would be far fewer people. In the distance you can see all the yachts and recreational craft at Pinnaroo Point Beach. I love this series of shots as I believe it captures the lifestyle well on these beautiful sunny days.
Jasper just caught the Oddball by the seam on the corner. Still counts as a catch though. Still righteous! At 12.5 Jasper still has quite a bit of energy. We don't play as long anymore, but we still play quite a bit. Nothing like some backyard Oddball action to keep the body young.
Sometimes on Sundays we walk through a business park near our home. Jasper likes to act like he owns the place. A dog can dream...
Spanning the waters, connecting the central business district to the North Shore, stands our Sydney Harbour Bridge. Designed and built by British firm Dorman Long of Middlesbrough and opened in 1932.
It carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Affectionately known as 'The Coathanger' because of the arch design. The bridge takes the title of tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 m from top to water level.
And in close proximity, the Sydney Opera House, a multi-venue performing arts centre designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, but completed by an Australian architectural team headed by Peter Hall. This unique and distinctive building was formally opened in 1973.
In 2007 the Sydney Opera House was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
