A Happy New Year! The view from this sky bar of the Perlan Museum is endless. It is one of the most beautiful museums in Reykjavik. In the Perlan you immerse in the forces of Icelandic nature, feel volcanos tremble and encounter birds with augmented reality effects.
I like this Eliavah sci-fi outfit so much, that I just had to do another one (in black & silver this time)... so here's our Borg Queen doing her usual schtick...and don't let that smile fool you...she's BRUTAL... Afterall,

It has been a while since I've been out for some organized photo shooting activity, so please forgive my recent photo uploading delay ... In such cases, I usually bury myself in the photos of the past, trying to bring up memories and also practice some new programs and some beloved photo processing techniques ... The amazing, truly one of a kind balcony of the Great Monastery of Simonopetra, in Mount Athos is my proposal for today ...
The photo was taken in June 2013, during my last visit to the Holy Mountain ... I was standing speechless and motionless on the balcony, deeply enjoying whatever was offered to me via my senses ... When the line ferry - boat presented itself over the horizon, I knew I had to take the shot thus making presentable the true scale of the vista's depth ...
The single photo underwent HDR processing via my recently bought HDR Software "Easy HDR" and then I augmented the feeling by applying Orton effect on the final result ..

The Singing Bridge or Congosto in the locality of Lozoya, its origins are uncertain, shuffling two possibilities, that is of Roman time or of medieval time.
Located in the municipal area of Lozoya, in the Sierra Norte de Madrid, it saves a narrow and deep gorge cut into the rocks downstream from the Pinilla Reservoir by the erosive force of the waters of the Lozoya River. It is a construction that serves to illustrate the medieval legal entities represented by the Society of Quiñones and the Sexmo de Lozoya.
The place-name Lozoya, which gives its name to a valley, a river and a population, seems to come from the augmentative term Loza, oza, osa, which means pasture in the Basque dialect of Gipuzkoa.
It seems that among the hosts of Alfonso VI who occupied the Lozoya valley, people from the north of the peninsula, mainly Asturian-Leonese and Basque people, came. It was they who populated or repopulated the valley, and gave name to the place: LOZOIHA.
The valley was disputed for a long time by Segovia and Madrid. It was managed by the so-called "Society of Quinones", dependent on the Council of Segovia, and that forced those who settled in these lands "to build a house and own their own horse that was worth 200 maravedis and served to grab and carry spear". It seems that there already existed in the area many peasants and knights were needed to defend the area. Los Quiñones de Lozoya are the antecedents of the current municipalities of the valley. They were integrated into the Community of Tierras de Segovia and defended their agricultural interests as a community. All the inhabitants of the valley had the same rights and were subject to the same laws and judges charged with administering the same justice for all.
The councils represented by the Quiñones were subject to Lozoya, and managed to become independent from their jurisdiction in the last years of the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, who tried to control the vast autonomous power of the municipalities through the "corregimientos". The legal figure that gives life to the corregimientos is the "corregidor", a supervisor of the King, who directs the destinies of the municipality next to the mayor. The corregidor comes to acquire such power and importance with the passage of time, which shifts from its functions to the town councils elected by the people, becoming the concejil power, from democratic to autocratic, since the corregidor's approval was needed in any decision Take the town hall.

Is this inside a quantum computer? Or maybe these are cerebral gyri of the Master Control Program (Tron)? An AI that creates parallel realities?
None of the above, of course ;-) This "kaleidoscoped" Willy-Brandt-Haus interior is a natural follow-up to my "M" capture from last Wednesday; looking at the "M" photo might help you to find your way around this labyrith :-) Composed of one image which I've quadrupled and then mirrored both vertically and horizontally. Please (double-)zoom in!
Happy Sliders Sunday, and stay safe and take care!

The natural rocky shore is augmented with a few artistic rockstacks in the this area.
Tierheim Berlin, Veterinärstation
Architect: Dietrich Bangert
1999-2002
"The stark Corbusian modernism of Berlin’s Tierheim – “animal home” – may seem a strange stylistic choice for a building meant to shelter homeless pets.(...)
Seen from above, the fractal-like Tierheim Berlin resembles an elaborate crop circle. This sci-fi allusion makes perfect sense considering the animal shelter’s otherworldly presence in the peripheral landscape where Berlin meets rural Brandenburg. Emerging from the earth in pure geometric forms, this glass and concrete edifice embraces and augments its natural environment through careful architectural design. Left exposed to the elements for little over a decade, its raw concrete surfaces have begun to show significant signs of wear since its official opening in June 2002. Yet the building’s weathering process is not a sign of failure; it is a sign of the design’s success. Architect Dietrich Bangert was well aware that the béton brut of the Tierheim Berlin would interact ecologically to produce a patina and that the building’s integration into the landscape would only deepen with time."

Upsala Glacier as seen from the International Space Station, October 2009. Click here for photo notes. The Upsala Glacier is a large valley glacier in Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park. It flows out from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, which also feeds the nearby Perito Moreno Glacier. The terminus of the glacier is at Lago Argentino. The Upsala Glacier is well known for its rapid retreat[1], which many see as evidence for global warming. The name comes from Uppsala University, which sponsored the first glaciological studies in the area.
The glacier's almost continual recession up until 1999 has recently slowed (as of 2003). The previous acceleration in ice motion during the two decades preceding 1999 may have been augmented by the release of backstress when the glacier retreated beyond the islands in Brazo Upsala.

Hawa Mahal is the tallest building in the world without a foundation. The five-storey building managed to maintain upright because of it is curved. Just another masterpiece of Rajput and Mughal architecture.
Durga Puja pandal architecture is a vibrant and dynamic art form, deeply rooted in Bengali tradition but continuously evolving with contemporary trends. The pandal serves as the temporary abode for the goddess Durga during the annual festival and is often an elaborate and creative expression of architectural ingenuity.
Materials Used
Bamboo: The traditional material used for the structure of the pandal, which is highly flexible and abundant.
Cloth and Paper: These are used for decorations, draping, and wall coverings. They are often painted or printed with intricate designs.
Plaster of Paris and Clay: Used for creating idols and sculptures.
Fiberglass and Metal: These are often used in modern pandals for creating stronger, more durable structures.
1. Traditional Designs
Bengali Folk Art: Traditional pandals often draw from rural Bengal’s heritage, incorporating local materials like bamboo, jute, and clay. These pandals typically feature motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and folk art.
Sholar Kaaj: This is a technique involving intricate designs made from shola (a type of plant) and is used to create ornaments, canopies, and decorations within the pandal.
Terracotta and Wooden Crafts: Terracotta sculptures, wooden carvings, and images of mythological figures are common in older pandals.
2. Modern Interpretations
Innovative Materials: Modern pandals often use contemporary materials like fiberglass, metal, and plastic alongside traditional materials. For instance, large fiberglass idols of Durga are increasingly used, along with innovative lighting, mirrors, and glasswork.
Thematic Pandals: Many pandals these days are built around a specific theme. The themes can range from environmental issues (like conservation of rivers or wildlife) to technological advancements, historical events, or even popular culture. The architecture of the pandal is designed to reflect this theme, often incorporating multimedia elements.
Eco-friendly Designs: In recent years, there has been a push for sustainable and eco-friendly pandals. These are often constructed using biodegradable materials such as bamboo, paper, and cloth, with designs that minimize environmental impact.
3. Architectural Features
Structural Form: Traditionally, pandals were dome-shaped or cylindrical, but now they can take on all sorts of avant-garde shapes, from temples to spaceships to replicas of famous monuments like the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal.
Facade and Entrances: The entrance of the pandal is often grand and acts as a focal point of the design. It may incorporate arches, columns, and ornate carvings, often reflecting the temple architecture of India.
Ceilings and Roofs: The roofs of pandals are a key area for artistic expression, ranging from elaborate canopies made of flowers to highly stylized, often abstract, designs using light and color.
Lighting: Pandals are spectacularly lit, with millions of light bulbs strung up in intricate patterns. The lighting not only enhances the aesthetics but also creates a divine ambiance, especially at night.
Interior Layout: The interior of the pandal is designed to accommodate the idol of Durga, with a focus on creating a spiritual environment. The idol is often placed on a raised platform, surrounded by artistic depictions of various deities, animals, and scenes from mythology.
4. Regional Variations
Kolkata Pandals: In Kolkata, Durga Puja pandals are known for their immense creativity and often become larger-than-life structures. Famous areas like Kumartuli, Behala, and Santoshpur are known for their extravagant pandals.
Delhi and Other Urban Centers: Pandal designs in metropolitan areas might incorporate modern styles, influenced by international trends, such as futuristic designs, art installations, or replicas of foreign monuments. These pandals often blend cultural elements with urban sophistication.
Rural and Smaller Town Pandals: These tend to have simpler, more rustic designs but are rich in cultural symbolism. Often constructed with bamboo, they may showcase more traditional and handcrafted artworks.
5. Innovative and Avant-Garde Designs
Optical Illusions: Some pandals are designed to give the illusion of floating structures, using materials like mirrors and lights to create mesmerizing visual effects.
Interactive and Immersive Designs: Some pandals now aim to create immersive experiences. Visitors can walk through installations that engage all their senses, with sounds, lights, and even augmented reality elements enhancing the experience.
6. Famous Pandals and Their Architects
Kumartuli Park (Kolkata): Known for its amazing artistry!
HEY remember when I first bought these bloody wonderful SK3LET0 Series Prosthetic Arms from Contraption in January? Sure you do, I did a whole post on it and everything. ANYWAY at NEO-Japan there are now SK3LET0 legs to match! YAY!!
I bought them as soon as I realised they were an actual thing and very carefully fitted them. Then I threw away my flesh arms and legs so now I'm only maybe 40% organic undead matter, which feeds into several of my very verrrrry many kinks quite happily.
Um... but Winter; they aren't actually in this picture though, are they? Yeah. You've got me there. I started taking a full body pic then got distracted by the Yasu lips and eye makeup by Zibska also at NEO-Japan. Crashing after a shit ton of snapshots later - here we are. I have the attention span of a fruit fly, we all know this. Just go check them out, they are absolutely worth it and so is pretty much everything at the sim. I had the great pleasure and privilege of walking in the show on Saturday and I got to wear some miraculous things, but have still been back twice to buy even more.

Burnham Beeches is a sprawling 1930’s mansion in Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges, it has been left vacant for more than 20 years and was in a state of ruin.
Australian artist Tyrone Wright, aka Rone, internationally renowned for his many pieces of street art in Melbourne, and other cities in Australia and the world, has transformed Burnham Beeches with his latest project, Empire.
Part exhibition, part installation, part virtual reality and augmented reality experience, Empire combines Rone’s art, with sound, light, botanical design and scents to take audiences on a hauntingly immersive multi-sensory journey through this magnificent building.
The subject of Rone’s many paintings in the mansion is Australian actress Lily Sullivan.
The exhibition is sold out for March and April, and after that the artwork will be destroyed as the mansion is refurbished.
Such a magnificent piece of work, and I hope you won’t get sick of my photos over the next few days, there will be a few of them.

CR augmented the battered ALCO fleet of the component roads with former EL SD45-2s and and SDP45's and by 1977 it was much much harder to find "pure" ALCO lash-ups working the mineral traffic on the Valley Division . (of course lets not talk about how happy we'd be NOW to see an SDP45 )
Returning from Mingo Jct. we stumbled upon this train on our way from a stop at Midland Ohio near Yellow Creek .
Ignoring the threatening green-black thunder heads that practically screamed "TORNADO" we got ahead of the train ,found this overpass and waited.
Moments later the train and the thunderstorm arrived, with the rain falling in huge cold drops that were being blown sideways in the gathering gloom. (it was only 230pm) while lightning struck the hills directly in front of us.
Imperfect as it is the photo remains some 46 years later ,as tribute to that moment that every railfan photographer can relate to :

The Bayon is a richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the center of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman's death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences.
The Bayon's most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and smiling stone faces on the many towers which jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. The temple has two sets of bas-reliefs, which present a combination of mythological, historical, and mundane scenes. The main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (the JSA) has described the temple as "the most striking expression of the baroque style" of Khmer architecture, as contrasted with the classical style of Angkor Wat. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayon)
It was not as smoky this morning as it has been over the last ten days. The two fires producing this smoke are 130 and 80 miles to our northwest.
Hey guys!
So here is my latest figure - not much to really say actually! I wanted to do something a little different with Richard's Future Gunner sculpt, so I switched out one of the arms and the hands for Pecovam's Crysis sculpts as if he had lost his hands and one arm and had them replaced with bionics, and also hollowed out the helmet (which was a major task, but it really paid off!)
Let me know what you guys think!

Installation by Indian artist Sam Madhu
I quote the official description of the work (viewed beyond the curtain):
"Metallic, cold, organic and austere shapes are drawn from patterns inked on the digital skin. The artist asks us: How will we carry our skin in the future?"
Photo exceptionally produced with my antediluvian compact Canon G15 (generation 2012) out of the closet for the occasion, to make it breathe from time to time...
Observation: There is an unbearable grain at 1250 ISO, it is always so difficult to compose through the screen (But who invented this ergonomic horror ?... In photo, only a good viewfinder is acceptable !) and I don't like 4/3 size...
Conclusion: The more I use my compact, the more I like my reflex!

NGC 2029 / 2030 is a HII Ionized region and is listed as part of Lucke-Hodge stellar association 82, along with NGC 2032 and 2035. NOTE: The coordinates for NGC 2029 and NGC 2030 were reversed between Herschel's original Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars and the New General Catalogue. Consequently, there is much confusion over what designation the object in this image should get. Depending on which source you look at, it could be either. Most images I've seen indicate 2030 as the correct catalogue number. However, I'm still confused.
NGC 2032: is an emission nebula and consists of NGC 2029, NGC 2035 and NGC 2040.
NGC 2035: is part of a complex of nebulae and stars, including NGC 2032 and NGC 2040. It consists of large bright gas clouds which are separated by dark dust clouds. NGC 2029, NGC 2032 and NGC 2035 are star-forming regions
NGC 2040: is a supernova remnant which contains an open cluster whose stars have a common origin and are drifting together through space. There are three different types of stellar associations defined by their stellar properties. NGC 2040 is an OB association, a grouping that usually contains 10–100 stars of type O and B — these are high-mass stars that have short but brilliant lives.
