I found an olde "shack" with a bygone purpose. Recently, I offered a shot of an abandoned Wyoming ranch house. A slightly busier spot in northeastern Colorado grasslands finds this abandoned gas station. Moat of the grasslands are abandoned now that the RR land grants went poof in the area. History tells us conservative Hebert Hoofer helped plant these tough-bounders into the dusty soil. What, weren't they 1%ers deserving a $1.5T give-away. I am sure that those railroads were surely priced well beyond agricultural worth. Here, they promised bountiful rains. And you thought that you could top off your tank here, didn't you? Who knows, you might find gas left in one of the barrels. I doubt it though.
This rustic abandoned gas station adorns the Coloradeo grasslands snap in northeast of the state.
I shot this shack on an afternoon that was sliding into fall. It also looked pretty cozy. Some of the window glass is still in place next to an open door that someone forgot to shut. The environment is falling in here just like the implement shed. The environment doesn't pay any attention to the Twittler's lies. Gretta wins; the environment rules in the end. It's at work on this ranch house here too - dissolving shingles!
I found a bunch more oldies to edit while I have other irons in the fire and snow disappears again. The cliff behind thiis abandoned ranch house describe the canyon terrain. More snaps of a disappearing autumn in our country! Man, did I ever leave a bunch of snaps laying around. Usually, when I get back from a trip, I wonder about all the missing captures I should have taken. I like the prairie lands slipping into autumn color.
As long as I posted some autumn shots above Lyons in Apple Valley, I decided to dip into old trips around old back country routes. when I found this original shot of the shack. Now I can chuck this pseudo-HDR in with my categorized, finished edits.
This outrageous shot was on another rather mellow but blank sky fallish day. This screams of autumn's slow creep along back country byways like Sand Creek.
Pictures along Sand Creek of spectacular rock deposits are everywhere. I threw this series in for yet another break after I returned and found my class of shots at the vertical end to the Colorado plains. It's clear that random life can always manage a foothold on these cliffs. These are the finger prints of Colorado-tough, rough and tumble plant life. Here, I am once again adding to my massive stash of captures to edit. At least this is green and I snapped away.

This Latino couple stopped right in front of me and the man stooped to tie his wife's shoelace. I asked if I could take their picture and they smilingly agreed. On one level, this could be looked at as an act of loving devotion!!!
There was something a bit unusual about this act, but the woman made it seem as if this kind of treatment was normal, something she expected of her husband. As if it were a kind of control she exercized over him... The scene might almost be seen as an act of public fetishism and, in that sense, reminded me of some of Buñuel's Mexican films. Her knowing, slightly devilish smile heightens this sensation... Because of this delightful duality/ambiguity, this is one of my favorite photos taken this past Labor Day...

I got to work today only to find this "at your service" bell on my desk. A funny gift from a funny friend. We've decided to call it the inappropriate bell. I brought it home and placed it in the kitchen. So now any time my boys burp (ding!), potty talk (ding! ding!) or say something totally "boy humor" inappropriate (ding!, ding!, ding!) it will get the tap.
I would have kept it at the office for the same purpose but let's just say I am surrounded by a lot of "ding-a-lings" so it wouldn't have been a productive work environment.
