The aster is practically irresistible this season, with its daisy-shaped corollas with thin petals. It forms real bushes formed by long stems that begin their growth in spring, after spending the winter underground. It is a very vigorous perennial.Photographed in the countryside.

The Aster is one of the plants on the cut flower fields and Aster season is only just beginning there. When I took this photo the Aster had a visitor but I'm not really sure what kind of insect this is. I didn't have a macro lens with me and therefore couldn't take a closeup capture of the tiny creature.

Aster amellus (Asteraceae) 257 22

Aster amellus, is a perennial herbaceous plant in the genus Aster of the family Asteraceae.

It reaches on average a height of 20–50 centimeter. The stem is erect and branched, the leaves are dark green. The flowers are lilac. The flowering period extends from July through October.

This plant is present on the European mountains from the Pyrenees and the Alps to the Carpathians. Outside Europe it is located in western Asia (Turkey), the Caucasus, Siberia, South and Central Asia.

Its typical habitat is rocky limy areas, the edges of the bushes and copses, but also the sub-alpine meadows, marshy places and lake sides. It prefers calcareous and slightly dry substrate with basic pH and low nutritional value, at an altitude of 0–800 meters above sea level.

The name of the Aster flower, which means "star" in Greek, comes from the shape of its petals and its floral color, often purple or blue, can be associated with light and hope, especially in moments of darkness.

Merveille is French for "marvel, wonder".

Which I feel this lovely Aster is?

If your birthday is in September, let the Aster bring you good luck.

With the vast array of colours and sizes that Asters, also known as starworts, come in (over 600 species).

Not only are they lovely, these flowers will not fade as quickly as other flowers in arrangements.

This flower is often used to symbolise afterthought or true love.

A love of variety is associated with this flower as well.

In China, the aster signifies fidelity.

The name "aster" has Latin origins meaning "star".

Many stories tell the origins of the Aster, but the most popular ancient myth explains how asters were created from stardust as Virgo, also known as Astaea, the goddess of innocence cries over sin on earth.

Her tears fell as stardust, covering the earth with asters.

This myth gives light to the Aster's star-like beauty and shape.

most Asters are still widely referred to as "asters", or "Michaelmas daisies", because of their typical blooming period.

Asters are the grande finale to the perennial garden, displaying vibrant fall colours in shades of pink, yellow, red, purple, blue, and white.

They’re also one of the last great feeding opportunities for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

For gardeners, it’s a two-for-one deal: beautiful blooms and a flurry of attractive wildlife.

Michaelmas daisies, also known as autumn asters (Symphyotrichum and Aster), come in many different colours and are an excellent example of late season flowers.

Asters from the genus Symphyotrichum originate from North America and Canada. Those of the genus Aster, on the other hand, are native to Eurasia. Plants of both genera have long been found in local gardens and their late summer flowers provide lovely pops of colour.
