Jeremy Bricker, Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan is on his way to pick up his daughter from elementary school. He attached his daughter’s bike to a contraption he built to do upper body work out during his commuting time. He calls it the Buff Pump Chopper or the Bench Press Bike.
Bricker started working on the three wheel vehicle in the Netherlands where he lived before moving to Michigan 2 years ago and finished it here. Hence the U.S. and Dutch flags. The rainbow flag is the favorite color of his daughter who rides her own bike home besides him after he picks her up from school.
Besides using his creativity to make things, Jeremy Bricker utilizes hydraulic laboratory experiments, numerical simulations, and post-disaster field surveys to investigate the resilience of structures and infrastructure exposed to both increasing hazard due to climate change and increasing consequences due to expansion of development in coastal and flood-prone areas.
