...and the shop associate. I asked him if he is able to sell suits without even talking because of how awesome he looks in one.
I attended this year’s Look3 photography conference (a festival/conference that celebrates the work of documentary photography/photojournalism and those behind the images). To hang around a large group of people who dedicate their lives to telling visual stories is a powerful experience. To do so with deeply thoughtful image maker friends beside you is even more so. This blog is titled “The Process of Remember” for a specific reason. It is a way for me to remember my personal journey on this earth in a meaningful and methodical way with a deliberate slowness of pace that allows me time to soak in more deeply things past that I would rather soon not forget. Look3 was one of those moments in my life. So perhaps for the next month, this page will be used as a daily vehicle allowing me to patiently practice the process of remembering. These images are a collection of my vision and feelings from the past several days.
To kick off my Look3 posts, I feel it appropriate to start with a picture of my friend Kaylan (click here to see it). Her strong, pretty and complicated look/expression feels like the perfect symbol of what this festival is all about---that more often than not, thoughtful image makers have a way for expressing more than a simple set of information in a picture. The truth that images have the potential to say a great deal more to us than a simple recording of history.

The streets of downtown West Chester exploded with excitement as hundreds of cyclists raced through this challenging circuit at speeds in excess of 35mph.
It’s the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium, one of the top races on the east coast!
The crowd cheered on national and local athletes as they pushed themselves to the limits of ability.
The Cyclingnews.com published gallery of the action can be seen here: www.cyclingnews.com/races/iron-hill-twilight-criterium-20...
Adding importance to this year’s event is the fact that the West Chester event was the ninth of ten races in the USA CRITS Championship Series, making it one of the last opportunities for riders to protect or improve their standings before the final invitational.
The action begins and ends at the intersection of Gay and High Streets, home of the title sponsor Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant.
About the route:
The Iron Hill Twilight Criterium is a 0.6-mile course over 8 city blocks on the streets of historic downtown West Chester, Pennsylvania, featuring four 90 degree turns and one short rise.
The Start/Finish Line is next to the Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, the title sponsor, at the intersection of Gay and High Streets.
Photographer Dave Gill has been specialized in capturing key moments in bicycle racing for the better part of this decade, working extensively with Cyclingnews.com, Velonews.com, and Pezcyclingnews.com.
I also cover a wide variety of genre's beyond cycling, with images carried in the USAToday, NY Times, Washington Post, Raleigh News and Observer, Durham Herald, Economist, and the Huffington Post.
Next year I'm on tap to cover races in the continental United States, and am especially looking forward Tirrenno-Adriaco next spring in Italy.

While on vacation, I headed downtown with my cousins and son to do a little photo walk. Downtown Rock Hill had some really cool architecture. It's amazing what you see when you really aren't looking for something.
Check out their photo streams for more pictures. Can't guarantee when they'll be up though lol
Male Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca). The Smooth snake is the United Kingdom's rarest native reptile; it is totally harmless to man. In the UK, the Smooth snake is a specialist of heathland, and native populations can be found only in the south of England; in the counties of Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex. Like most snakes, the Smooth snake will eat almost anything that it can catch and swallow, however; they are mostly associated with a reptilian diet. Smooth snakes grow to a length of about 60-70cm (exceptionally up to 80cm), and appear slimmer than our other native snakes. The Smooth snake is so named because it lacks the central keels, or ridges on its scales, unlike our native Adder and Grass snake. This adaptation means that it is not as swift as our other snakes, but is well suited to navigating dense vegetation. Due to this name, the very smooth Slow worm is often misreported as being a Smooth snake. Exceptional individuals have reached an age of almost 30 years in the wild. Although usually considered mute, Smooth snakes can emit a quiet short hiss when stressed, which is usually associated with a strike or sudden jerk of the fore-body. They do not emit prolonged warning hisses like the Adder and Grass snake. The Smooth snake is usually of a matt colouration; usually a dark grey or dull brown, although brick-red specimens are not uncommon. The dark, almost black dorsal markings are not immediately apparent, and are arranged along the back, from neck to tail, as pairs of dots, bars or dashed lines. There is usually a second pair of lines, one of each running along the flanks of the body, although these are frequently even less obvious than the dorsal markings. The top of the head always features a large dark heart-shaped marking, which is sometimes described as a 'butterfly'. There is a characteristic dark line on the side of the head, that runs across the eye. Unlike the venomous Adder, the Smooth snake has round pupils. Copy courtesy of Surrey ARG. Although many birders associate Nuttall only with birds (e.g. Nuttall's Woodpecker), this desert denizen was also named after him. This species is noted for its exceptionally long ears. Taking note of the dense blood-vessel density in this shot, I pondered whether the ears also act as a cooling radiator similar to the function provided by elephant's ears. This rabbit is found only in the western half of the US (excepting the three most northwestern states). They are on the menu of the local four-legged predators as well as several of the larger airbourne raptors.
