A couple of times in Venice, I went to assassinate a standard roof archer and all of a sudden he spawns about 20-30 clones. By the time I got my camera, there was only about six left because they all fell off the roof. You can see one falling in a blur in the right-center of the pic. Weird glitch, not a big deal, but was funny to watch.

Also, update, I watched a few youtube vids people posted of this happening. If you do it in the right spot, you can get a TON of guys spawning and it will crash the system eventually. LOL.

Notice how the bug secures its cargo of dead ants with its hindlegs. See also front view www.flickr.com/photos/ehktang/2664359412/.

Colorful assassin bug (family Reduviidae) showing off its rostrum, with which it injects saliva to liquify the insides of its prey to suck them out.

Milkweed assassin bug. The strategy the insect uses to catch its prey is known as the "sticky trap strategy." Like many ambush bugs, they attack their prey after hiding inside foliage with its forelegs raised in the air. The forelegs are covered with a viscous material which acts as a glue, trapping the victim. They then rapidly paralyze their prey by inserting their stylets into the host body and prepares to feed through extra-oral digestion. Extra-oral digestion is a mode of ingestion where a predator releases enzymes into its prey to dissolve the host's tissue and later sucks up the dissolved liquid using its stylet like a straw. They can feed on prey that may be up to six times their own size. While not a threat to humans, if not handled properly, the bite can cause a burning sensation with swelling that may last for several days.

Assassin bug nymph in the genus Zelus. Since he's a nymph (immature stage) and I'm not an assassin bug expert, it's impossible to be certain, but the most likely species is Zelus luridus, since that is the most commonly encountered species in this area. These little nymphs are absolutely adorable, but can be difficult to photograph because they have a most annoying habit of walking under the (leaf, petal, twig) just as you get them into focus. I finally got this one in the middle of the dogwood bloom. The pointed thing on the underside of his head is his beak; being an assassin bug, he uses that to stab prey and "inject" it with saliva containing enzymes that dissolve the insides of the prey insect. The assassin bug can then slurp up the results like a milkshake through a straw. Yum?

For those who remember the ghille suit/camo shot from last year... we're playing again this year. It overlapped with prom, so the obvious needed to happen.
