It's always fun until someone ends up in the cone of shame!

STILL LIFE is the topic for Thursday 2 June, 2011 for ODC group.

A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition.

A warm smile is the universal language of kindness. Quotes by: William Arthur Ward

15 min wacom tablet drawing using soft and hard brushes

Before finishing my job in the UK, I had a quiet few days to try out some wacom painting. I sketched a pose from www.posemaniacs.com and then scanned it and worked over it in photoshop, adding shading and colour, and finally hair and background using a wacom tablet. It was really good fun, and having great people around me to inspire me to try something like this was a real treat.

Thanks to all at Blitz Games - I'll miss you all!

Various portraits of strangers, mostly on trains, from the sketchbook I've been keeping whilst in England.

When I was cleaning out my filing cabinet I came across artwork from high school and from university, including this drawing I did on the computer and then painted in with colour.

I thought I was a good tribute for International Women's Day. Love and hugs to all my wonderful grrls! ox

The last drawing of the session, I tried to do something a bit less hard edged.

Back at drawing, and took my Wacom, which is great... plus the bonus of having a pregnant woman to draw. - about 25 mins on this one - the last drawing of the session, where I played around a bit. Much fun with the wacom as there's so much less dictated by what you can and can't do in contrast to paper. You don't get the tangible result in your hand, but when its this much more fun who cares!

Pencil drawings of people riding the train from Birmingham to York. Colour added with photoshop.

My first drawing for the Mileskine 8 group - entry number 1 into my book...

The last drawing I did from last class... learning to draw with a wacom presents so many different techniques and opportunities, its overwhelming. This week I mostly experimented and left feeling a bit disappointed with my output, yet glad I'd tried some new ideas. I did this one at the end, as it was a bit more conventional, and I suppose an attempt to get something a bit more traditional.

Hastily taken photos of drawings I did whilst in the UK. Some of these are done at Neil Moore's Saturday class in Stratford on Avon. He's an amazing artist, and the best teacher of drawing I've come across, whose very reasonably priced Saturday class was fantastic.

You can find his website here, along with details of his classes and many of his works:

More Wacom penned antics: I used the marquee tool to plot the silhouette then painted inside it.

another long-ish one... probably 2 hrs

Acryllic painting.... never enough time!

A mixed bag from the above locations. The light at the back of Corleone cafe in leamington was cool and made some interesting light / shade stuff.

The girl on the top left of the right page was observed through the reflection in the window of the train, about 8 seats down. Quite sneaky :-)

ps. I'd recommend Corleone as a great cafe in Leamington Spa - easily does the best coffee, and really consistent with food.

Sketches - McDonalds

I was lucky enough for my work to send me on an all day drawing workshop this Saturday gone - before I got my ride to the class I got breakfast at McDonalds (really bad occasional habit) I bought my pad to draw, but forgot my normal pencil and had to go with a brush pen thing. It was fun though - I think I'll have a go at doing this style again sometime.

A big guy and a little woman seen on the train to York. Pencil, coloured with photoshop.

I got noticed quite a bit doing these drawings - I wonder if its because I've started wearing glasses and look more obvious because of it, or if I'm just not caring so much about being spotted now. Nobody seems to mind.

Waiting for my sweetheard to arrive, I deliberately turned up an hour early to get some extra sketches. Most of these are done in the arrival area - hence the backs of people and people looking up.

Liked doing these a lot, as I had to go a bit faster and perhps capture a bit more life.

Here's my 2nd entry for Moly_8, following on from Gustav's design (his beautifully stylised Girl with Pearl Earing at the left).

The theme is "memory of my favourite things", my snowboard being one of them plus the lancewood plant, which lives in my garden in New Zealand. I've referenced the forest too, which although not one of 'my' things, is so 'favourite' that I had to put it in.

one of the quick sketches with the wacom tablet that went a bit wild :-)

These were mostly done on the tube, and a few on the Silverlink train across London. A few on the train back up to Leamington Spa too. Had a few interested people comment on them at the time.

Mid session half an hour drawing with Wacom tablet.

One of those unfinished ones. I quite like the feminine nature of this drawing.

quick poses drawn with the wacom tablet, using different brush width and softness settings.

Pencil sketches done on the train. The two guys with notes asked me to draw them and then took pics of the results with their mobiles. I'm quite getting into drawing at strangers' request now - the pressure makes it exciting!

model with a sheet over him.

Pencil sketches done on the tube on a hot afternoon.

Some drawings I did on a couple of different days. I find it interesting how people dress up so smart when they go on holiday - as if taking a plane is an occasion such as dining out or a attending a wedding.
