As seen from the alley, this artwork adorns the backside of the buildings on a main street in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Walking along the shore of Loch Assynt in the North Western Highland Region of Sutherland in Scotland, I was hopeful of finding the mythical mermaid that is said to live beneath the waters.
Alas, just like not seeing the Loch Ness Monster a few months earlier, I was to be disappointed.
However, I did manage to find this beautiful little tree island just before sunrise. The promised sunrise, just like the mermaid quickly disappeared and the sun was never to be seen again - the Scottish clouds and rain quickly turned this tranquil scene into one of a photographer quickly running back to his car fighting of the horizontal falling hailstones...how the weather systems change so quickly in the Scottish Highlands.

When I was being battered against the weather on Llanddwyn Island, I asked myself why am I doing this, why am I the only idiot on this island with a camera balanced on a tripod. And then, whilst I was retrieving my hat which had blown away for the umpteenth time and at the same time trying to get back to my tripod before it too decided to go for a swim, I realised it gives me therapeutic meditation. Bizarre thought in all this chaos.
But it does, it clears my mind and eases any worries and anxieties. My mind is freed of all worries and distractions & I become completely focussed on where I am. For those moments, all that matters is the wonder of nature that surrounds me & my life is enriched by feeling small and surrendering to the power of the elements.
