Today is world arthritis day and the topic of the day is to keep moving.
I know a few people who have or have had arthritis and it's such a painful disease that it can affect their life in such a horrible way. Although the general consensus seems to be that it's an old persons disease, it actually isn't. I can't imagine the pain, both physically and emotionally of such a dibilitating illness.
So on behalf of all of the people who suffer in the world today with this, this is my little tribute to them. If you feel so inclined to give a donation to charity, this is a very worthy cause.

Update: I actually misunderstood what I was seeing in this image slightly. -- The cartilage loss on the inner and outer edge of the joints is the same. The larger gap that can be seen on the outer edge is there because the joints have fallen inward, rocking on the highpoint of the lower leg bone, causing a bowlegged stance and unbalance gate to my walk.
What is Rheumatoid arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common inflammatory disease of the joints. The onset is often sudden with pain in the little finger or toe joints. This disease can also harm other joints of our body like hands or knees or shoulder or foot. The preference carpal bones with carpophalangeal joints and proximal interphalangeal joints are mainly affected by it. The fingers are not affected. The affected joints become swollen and are over-heated. Redness of the affected joints is quite possible. A symmetrical (occurring on both sides) synovitis originating from distant joints is typical but not mandatory. Patients can experience Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms like morning stiffness. In the course of the disease more and more joints are affected. This disease comes to patients in batches and it can stay up to few weeks or months. Any improvement of health is not dependent on the Rheumatoid arthritis treatments.
Commonly found Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms:
The causes of the disease are still largely unknown. The cause of this disease is assumed to be autoimmune. Some bodily substances are attacked like the articular cartilage from cells of the immune system. Viruses and bacteria are triggered by this disease similar to the pathogenesis of rheumatic fever. Now researchers are doing researches on the relationship between periodontal diseases and the emergence of rheumatoid arthritis. The twin studies being influenced by genes has been demonstrated many times. Rheumatoid arthritis is coupled with a few MHC or HLA alleles. The most important Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are pain in the joints; stiffness felt in the morning for quite a few hours; fatigue and tiredness or even fever. Patients also face reduction of appetite and rapid weight reduction.
Essential Rheumatoid arthritis treatments:
In drug based Rheumatoid arthritis treatments traditionally four main groups of medications are identified:
* Analgesics (painkillers)
* Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAID
* Glucocorticoids
* Antirheumatic drugs
The targets and effects of all kinds of drugs are not same. The prescription of DMARDs is included with cortisone or cortisone free anti inflammatory drugs. Modern concepts of treatment of rheumatism are characterized by the fact that different methods are combined. Compilation of therapies of various diseases and situations help to provide better treatment. Rheumatoid surgery is established as a branch of Orthopedics. This surgery is mainly done by the doctors who are specialized in heavy and severe joints changes for the rheumatic disease.The synovial membrane – the inner layer of the capsule – is the actual location of the disease. It can affect the entire course if you want to remove this with the help of surgeries. Depending on the anatomy of the affected joint significant reduction of the diseased tissue usually has a soothing effect. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms should not be neglected. Rheumatoid arthritis must be treated in shorter period of time as it is very dangerous.

Arthritis- Spinal & Other Joints
Figure 1A and 1B. In A, a side view X-ray of the neck is shown where the neck joints and disc spaces are normal. In B, damaged joints and disc spaces due to spinal arthritis is shown. Can you see the difference between the x-rays?
What Is Arthritis?
Arthritis is a relatively generic term that actually encompasses a variety of different conditions. There are a various types of arthritis. Some of the more common are described Table 1. Figure 1A shows relatively normal joints making up the cervical spine, or bones of the neck. However Figure 1B shows significant degeneration of the joints.
Who Does Arthritis Affect?
More than 27 million people are affected by osteoarthritis (OA), making it the most common type of arthritis in the U.S. OA of the knee and hips is the most common cause of arthritis-related disability in the U.S. Most people with OA are over the age 45. Overall, more women are more likely than ment o develop OA. Radiographic signs of OA are sometimes seen in people as young as their 20’s.
What Causes Arthritis?
While some forms of arthritis can be hereditary, others can be related to immune system dysfunction. The cause of many forms of arthritis is idiopathic, or unknown. Primary osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is referred to as “wear-and-tear” arthritis, because it is known that the joints can wear out faster when used more or inappropriately. It is sometimes assumed that arthritis is a “normal” consequence of aging. However, not all people within any advanced age group develop arthritis. There are other factors that can lead to the development of osteoarthritis. For example, if there is a condition whereby your joints are under increased pressure during regular daily activities, those joints are likely to degenerate at an advanced rate.
Examination Procedures for the Diagnosis of Arthritis
While the diagnosis of arthritis is often assumed by the history and exam, sometimes other tests are ordered. This can include blood tests, usually if rheumatoid or another variant is a possibility, and X-rays of the involved and related joints. X-rays can show signs of arthritis and help to delineate which form a person may have.
Common Chiropractic & Other Conservative Treatments
Pain from arthritis is commonly helped from Chiropractic care, including spinal adjustments, manual stretching, exercises and traction. Chiropractic Biophysics® care can help restore normal alignment of the spine and pelvis thereby taking pressure off of the joints. Diminishing this pressure may diminish or stop the rate of degeneration of the spine, hips and other related joints.
Chiropractic Care May Have a Positive Influence on Arthritis
Many thorough studies have been performed on patients with symptoms that are often related to arthritis, in particular osteoarthritis and have shown Chiropractic care to be beneficial.1-17
Chiropractic Biophysics® (CBP®) care, by correcting or improving the overall structure of the spine can have an additional positive benefit of diminishing abnormal pressure on the affected joints.

During normal bone development and fracture healing, cartilage is transformed into bone. Osteoclasts, a specialized type of cell, eat the cartilage, creating a passageway for blood vessels, marrow, and other bone cells. In this image of cartilage (purple and white) from a young mouse femur, osteoclasts (red) surround a blood vessel filled with red blood cells (yellow). In contrast to normal osteoclasts, the cells seen here have only a single nucleus due to the lack of a gene involved in osteoclast development. This research program aims to understand how large, bone resorbing osteoclasts form, and whether preventing them from fusing together is a way to control bone loss in osteoporosis, arthritis, or other conditions. This image was a winner in the 2015 BioArt contest of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).

And like many debilitating diseases...
You don't truly understand it's effects...
Until it hits you personally.
In the past 2 years I've had the misfortune of becoming one of it's victims...
with two forms or Arthritis in my neck and thoracic spine.
Watched my Father suffer badly in my younger days too...
but never truly appreciated it at the time...
The constant pain and discomfort that he suffered.
I am also now watching my Mother suffer it's effects too.
Like everything... you learn to just live with it...
It's not life threatening... just a bit of a 'pain'!
But it sure does zap the life force out of you at times!
That is one of the reasons I've not been around so much lately...
Been going through a bit of a bad patch!
My thoughts go out to all of you out there who are afflicted with this disease...
Get a hold of this book if you can... It's got a wealth of wonderful and helpful information! %-)
