you have my permission to use this photo with or without my permission. Sure would appreciate some attribution on it. I am not yet so egotistical that I believe that I produce a stunning photograph as an artform. I want others to see my picture or I would not have made it available to the public on Flickr.

Graffiti (singular graffiti or graffito, the latter only used in graffiti archeology) is writing or drawings made on a wall or other surface, usually without permission and within public view. Graffiti ranges from simple written "monikers" to elaborate wall paintings, and has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire.
Modern graffiti is a controversial subject. In most countries, marking or painting property without permission is considered vandalism. Modern graffiti began in the New York City subway system and Philadelphia in the early 1970s and later spread to the rest of the United States and throughout the world.
I found some local Sycamore trees downtown with spectacular bark design, so I saw abstract art in the trunks of the tree right away and that’s just how these are presented

Bark painting goes back thousands of years, and this collection at the NGV Federation Square has some that are over a century old. Preservation is a key factor in survivability of this artform.
San Juan Capistrano Costal Mission in the style of the California Scene Painting artists like Millard Sheets. Last week I posted an homage to the large scale mosaic panels created by Millard Sheets. Though he is known for those works, he was one of the earliest of the California Scene Painting artists and helped define the art movement. Being a huge fan of his I wanted to pay tribute to both artforms for which he is known.
I used Bing Image Creator, Photoshop and a touch of Redfield to make this image for the Sliders Sunday group.

There are many ways to reimagine nature.
Photography is at a crossroads, in much the same way painters were challenged by the camera. Painters learnt to leave realistic representation behind and move into more abstract forms of art. Now with the proliferation of images everything has been photographed. This is why AI is such a threat to human creativity. AI machines trawl the entire internet (this is a fact) and produce composite images that look like real photographs. It is getting better all the time because AI can actually be programmed to learn.
So what really is left then for the serious photographer? I'm not talking here about family or travel snaps on the iPhone as they will always be around. But I mean photography for photography's sake. Photography as an artform.
Well there are two things I believe such photographers must do:
(1) Resist AI. I mean by this, stop playing with it like some toy. Or worse, trying to pass off AI images as some sort of personal creative endeavour. I am pleased to say that one of Tasmania's finest artistic photographers, Suellen Saidee Cook makes it known on her home page what she thinks of AI:
"No CGI, AI or digitally produced elements are used.
The artwork is entirely constructed from photographs I have captured myself.
No computer generated products could possibly replicate what is in my imagination." www.suellensaideecook.com.au/
Which leads me to my next point,
(2) Imagine, and reimagine
Be creative in unusual ways. Use the element of surprise and don't be afraid to experiment.
One more thing: AI is a way to get rid of jobs and workers. So that makes creative work a political act.

En plein air.
Plein air painting dates back for centuries and it is the art form of leaving ones studio and going outdoors to undertake their craft by drawing or painting landscapes.
It took the French impressionists to turn into a true art form due to their desire to capture light and its changing qualities.
En plein air art is so much simpler today as paint tubes and the box easel and other requirements are so much more transportable and thus it allows artists to venture outside the confines of their studios and capture a scene as it appears in front of them.
“En plein air” comes from the French which translates as “in the open air”
On the peak of the White Cliffs of Dover this en plein air artist is capturing on canvas the view he is witnessing which is the White Cliffs.

..... and a bit about the mass murderer, Maskim Gelman?
"Since graffiti is a gateway to more serious crimes like car jacking and murder, I guess it’s not surprising that serial murderer, Maksim Gelman, who used the tags *WS*, WES, and MAX, partook in the illegal artform," according to Bucky Turco, animalnewyork.com
While I might not agree with Mr. Turco's assessment that graffiti is a gateway....., Max Gelman, who applied his tags to several areas in New York City, did go on a murderous rampage last month, killing four and critically wounding several more.
The reason I tell you about Mr. Gelman is to highlight the danger I put myself in to bring you some of the photographs you see in my stream! Really!
Now, the graffiti photos shown today, were taken at Fort Tilden on the Rockaway Peninsula in New York City. Fort Tilden was built in 1917 to carry the guns that topped the bunkers one mile away from the wharf. All of the buildings, including the bunkers, are now used as ad space for graffiti artists.
Due to the heavy brush and garbage blocking many entrances most of the building in this deserted area of the fort are nearly inaccessible except to intrepid photographers and graffiti artists, some of whom may be potential murderers!!
Gracious, I'm exhausted just thinking about the dangers I put myself in! Oy!

Your eyes are considered a powerful tool for communicating and for making that special connection - for they can convey emotions, intentions, and thoughts without words.
Highlighting your eyes with eyeliner is an artform which goes back thousands of years. The [SENTINUS BEAUTY] Rachel Eyeliners Set (EVOX) captures the beauty of your eyes without over embellishment by lending the perfect statement with subtlety and sensual elegance. Its' HUD provides you with 5 different shades of subtle colors to choose from.
To enhance and frame my facial appearance, I selected [JUMO Originals] ELSA Earrings (with shine). I absolutely love June's mega HUD she includes which allows you to change both the color of the metal as well as the gems so you can complement both your wardrobe and cosmetic choices.
Both the [SENTINUS BEAUTY] Rachel Eyeliners Set (EvoX) and the [JUMO Originals] ELSA Earrings Set are available at the June SWANK Events "A Celebration of Color" Venue.

hiking by the Clinton River in Mount Clements Michigan, I came across this rotted and fallen giant maple tree. The trunk was hallowed by rot and age and this added to the overall texture of the remaining structure.

Keep your eyes on the seas
Dear Sailors of wind and high waters
With secrets abound she has a daughter
That reaches no borders
She’ll swim along starboard
To capture your heart
She’ll sneak to the shorelines
From port to port to port
Take caution not to abduct
For a flip of her tail-fin
You’ll surely disrupt
And she’ll turn under waters
To depart
Stealing your heart

Good to see the Horseshoe has reopened after being closed for a few years, although yet another boring, corporate and computer generated pub sign. Pub signs used to be an artform in themselves but now are often reduced to this.
Probably built in the 16th century, the Horseshoe stands on the main road between Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon that passes through Shipston and one of the reasons it became a major coaching centre in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
I hope the pub does well, but if memory serves me right the interior is of little interest, opened up and made largely open plan around the bar.

I wouldn't be a fan of graffiti as a form of art. If I was I probably wouldn't have a camera, I would have a can of spray paint. However, I will say that Dublin and most other urban sprawls owe a lot to the graffiti artist, especially during a global recession. Dublin is suffering particularly badly; the fascination with new construction has led to a lot of brown field sites like this one being passed over in favour of less complicated development of green field sites. Without the graffiti artist these places would be grey, miserable and bland and you wouldn't want to rely on local authorities to clean up what is ... let's face it ... their own mess.
Graffiti (singular: graffito; the plural is used as a mass noun) is the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. Graffiti is sometimes regarded as a form of art and other times regarded as unsightly damage or unwanted.
Graffiti has existed since ancient times, with examples going back to Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire and may range from simple scratch marks to elaborate wall paintings. In modern times, spray paint and markers have become the most commonly used materials. In most countries, defacing property with graffiti without the property owner's consent is considered vandalism, which is punishable by law. Sometimes graffiti is employed to communicate social and political messages. To some, it is an art form worthy of display in galleries and exhibitions; to others it is merely vandalism. There are many different types and styles of graffiti and it is a rapidly evolving artform whose value is highly contested, being reviled by many authorities while also subject to protection, sometimes within the same jurisdiction.

Walking outside in the sunshine along the Lakeshore in Pointe-Claire near Montreal, Que. I saw this huge Inukshuk built of bricks, stones and boards along the water areas. There were many smaller ones also along the shoreline. These structures exist all over CANADA and act as WELCOME SIGNS to travellers as well as a way to GUIDE them on their journey. They are usually built by First Nations people or Inuit peoples.
Seems the appropriate title, it was Sunday afternoon in Newport.
I’m always fascinated by ghost signs they are an artform of their own
While I support the artform known as graffiti, I do not condone any act or form of vandalism or any illegal activity relating to such whether it be to private, commercial, or public property.

Somewhere along Civita’s long history a unique architectural element the Chimney became a village passion, something common to all but elevated into an artform that told a story about the people that lived there, no two were the same and the more ornate the more prosperous it was believed you were. I have to admit I did not know about this obsession with chimneys until after I visited Civita so unfortunately I have no photos that show this element in the way that it should but it leaves something for a next visit. There are seven houses within the village that were painted by Albanian artist Ibrahim Kodra that each form the shape of a face with windows on either side of the chimney like eyes they are now called Kodra houses in memory of the artist.

One more, once more ... I have photographed this cliff face sculpture now for many years over many visits to Portugal (see the first comment box below for a couple of earlier versions). Photography can provide a measure of time in fractions of a second or over a photographer's lifetime .... unlike any other artform.
The power of wind and rain and time is easily seen in these 3 photos.

Way before these fabulous "Quilling Cards" became popular, I was buying them from the Woman's Exchange where they were being assembled by local craftspeople. Now they are still hand-crafted, but on a larger scale in a Fair Trade Certified Factory in Vietnam, taking an artisan nearly one hour to complete. They are then distributed by Quilling Card LLC®. . .
CLICK HERE for more information and a demo of this fascinating craft. They are fabulous *gifts* all by themselves, and wonderful put into a frame!
A found Cabinet of wood with open and semi-closed doors to display some favourite objects d'art!. Someone put it into the basement of our building, I guess when they moved out. We liked it and I spent a bit of time cleaning it up with Lemon Oil and got any nicks and scratches out, so it looks like new again.
