Doing repetitive actions for a very long time requires a certain mind discipline. I control the remote of the rotating table. The remote spins the oven 5 degrees and then takes a 4 second break. In this break I snap a picture remotely from the laptop. I cannot see all of this, so I have to trust the small lcd on the remote. But this repetition also puts your mind at ease.
I’ve been thinking about an art project.
But I can’t escape the constant nagging sensation that I don’t know what makes an art project. Before, at school, every assignment was a project. You would show your assignment to the professor and that showing, in itself, made it a project. Whether it was completed or work in progress, it was still a project. Now, almost three years since I finished my master degree, I am having trouble figuring out what makes an art project. I can just move, and organize all the photos into a folder that goes into my “portfolio for Roxana’ folder (I haven’t changed the name since fvpci...) and add a small .doc statement about what I tried to do. Will this makes it an art project? Probably not. It requires validation. I’m not in school anymore. I can’t have a professor approve it or discuss it. What do I do? Do I make a Tumblr account for it? Or an Instagram account? One special for my project? Will that make it a project? If I had an artist website, maybe an IrinaGhenu.com or .ro (preferably made with Indexhibit) then I could just add another page under the “works” tab and call it a day? What if I find a space to exhibit my project? Then it’s definitely an official project, right?

Chilliwack, BC - Sardis Elementary School - part of the Stream of Dreams (aka Fish on Fences) fence mural, 2019. Note adapted from sponsor website: Stream of Dreams program helps communities discover their local watershed, and become stewards for salmon and all creatures. The 'science to art' process embraces optimism to create lasting meaningful results. The murals represent hope for a future with healthy watersheds (protect and conserve water to ensure a healthy future).
Since 2001, a non-profit called Stream Of Dreams has been involved with hundreds of these projects. Each child that paints one is taught about their local watershed and how to protect it, so the legacy isn't just in the art but in the kids and the knowledge they'll hopefully retain and put to use.
