The European eel (Anguilla anguilla) has a complex and fascinating life cycle, characterized by its long migrations. Born in the Sargasso Sea, near Bermuda, the eel begins its life as a larva, drifting for up to three years across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. Once it reaches the continental waters, the larvae transform into juvenile eels called "glass eels," which are transparent and migrate into rivers, lakes, and estuaries. Over the next several years, they grow into adult eels, developing a dark pigmentation. These adults can live up to 20 years, often in freshwater environments, before undergoing a mysterious migration back to the Sargasso Sea to spawn and die. This life cycle, particularly the journey back to the Sargasso Sea, remains one of nature's great mysteries.
It's currently facing a significant decline in population, with numbers plummeting by over 90% in recent decades. Overfishing, habitat loss, pollution, and the construction of barriers like dams have severely impacted their migration routes, breeding success, and overall survival. The eel's complex life cycle, combined with environmental pressures, has made recovery difficult. Additionally, climate change and oceanic changes threaten the eel's spawning grounds in the Sargasso Sea. This drastic decrease in numbers has led the species to be listed as critically endangered, sparking conservation efforts to protect the eel's remaining habitats and ensure its survival.

Bold, immersive, and unapologetically confrontational, this typographic environment showcases Barbara Kruger’s signature visual language, transforming a commercial escalator into a platform for social critique. The towering words “MONEY MAKES MONEY” streak diagonally across the red escalator fascia in thick, white uppercase letters. Beneath them, Kruger's floor-to-ceiling text—sharp and declarative—blankets the walls and flooring in her unmistakable aesthetic: black, white, and red, all caps, all command.
This work functions like a visual bullhorn. You don’t just view it—you’re engulfed in it. As visitors ride the escalator or walk the floor, they are literally walking on, past, and through messages that demand reflection. Kruger’s phrases, including “FORGET” and “AS YOU DO SO, SO SHALL YOU BE A THOUSAND TIMES,” cut into the viewer's psyche like editorial footnotes on consumerism, identity, and memory. It’s not background art—it’s foreground activism.
Kruger, a conceptual artist whose work emerged from the convergence of graphic design, feminism, and political critique, uses her installations to question the status quo. In this image, the strategic placement of slogans along the moving escalator accentuates the work’s commentary on capital and mobility. The phrase “MONEY MAKES MONEY” becomes more than a statement—it becomes a loop, both physically as the escalator moves and symbolically as capitalism feeds itself.
There’s irony baked into the installation’s location as well. By situating this piece in a retail or museum space, Kruger prompts viewers to consider their roles in systems of commodification. Are they participating? Observing? Resisting? The clean, corporate surroundings serve as a foil to the raw urgency of her typography, magnifying the message’s subversiveness.
The typeface, Futura Bold Oblique, evokes advertising vernacular while rejecting it simultaneously. The minimalism is aggressive. There are no images, no soft gradients—just text and color slamming into you with the gravity of protest. Kruger’s genius lies in the tension she creates between clarity and critique.
What makes this particular photo powerful is how it captures not only the artwork but the interaction between space, viewer, and message. The escalator’s slope, the color isolation in red, and the careful crop of the frame emphasize how Kruger manipulates spatial dynamics to trap and guide the viewer’s gaze. Typography becomes architecture.
Whether seen in-person or through the lens, this work crystallizes the visual ethos of Barbara Kruger—text as resistance, art as intervention. The piece asks you not just to look, but to think. To question your complicity. To wonder, truly: What are you buying, and what are you selling?

I am a little hesitant to post this, but I feel it is important. In response to recent global events, this was something I had to get off my chest. This painting was very hard to approach and even harder to face up to during the last couple of days. I am deeply saddened and fearful at the current state of Syria, and horrified that there are so many innocent children trapped within this nightmare. As an artist, this is my response. It is not much, but it something that I can offer. 100% of the sale will go to Save the Children’s Syrian Children’s Relief Fund to help Syrian children like Omran. Here is what I created.

THE NAXOS-HALLS IN FRANKFURT AS CREATIVE FREE SPACES
1. NAXOS-CREATURES
A world quite of one's own with very special creatures opened up behind the walls of the former Naxos-Union factory buildings. Whoever was appropriately open, met queer Rabbits, the smiling City Ghosts or Alice, who designed fanciful a Wonderland of her own design. In other areas were some surreal letters, which developed an independent existence, and moonstars°*, which danced in shopping trolleys, or strange, apparently disembodied faces, which were visible in the light of a flashlight for a brief moment, to then disappear again in the darkness of the rooms. All these creatures of the decayed Naxos halls were seeking reality niches in which they could exist, and they have been successful for years.
2. THE HISTORY OF THE NAXOS-UNION
The polarities of a capitalist economic system were reflected sustainably in the history of the Naxos-Union. The Naxos Union managed the ascent among a worldwide market leader. Later, however, due to the changing production conditions, it broke into pieces. The company based in Frankfurt am Main in Germany secured the rights for the mining of a special emery rock on the Greek island of Naxos and started around 1880 with the for decades extremely profitable production of grinding machines.
Only in the eighties of the last century the enterprise rapidly lost importance. Changes have occurred repeatedly in the ownership of the company, and the original production centers in Frankfurt were abandoned. The Naxos-Union experienced the darkest chapter of its history during the period of fascist reign of terror in the "Third Reich", when the forced laborers provided the work to maintain the operation.
3. THE NAXOS BUILDINGS
After the decline of the enterprise, the former area of the Naxos-Union in the avenue Wittelsbacher in Frankfurt divided itself into three areas. A former big administrative building and the former production hall lying in the middle area were redeveloped in several stages. Today it's used by agencies, theatrical projects and art projects. As a monument of the industrial culture, the middle hall, in the meantime, is protected due to her architectural and historical meaning.
The third complex of the buildings with several halls and another administrative edifice stood widely empty about many years away and went increasingly to ruin. Despite bans and sealing offs, it developed at the same time as a open space for numerous artists who crafted the rooms creatively and fulfilled them over and over with new life. After the city of Frankfurt had rented parts of the area for a completely excessive price over years, the whole property was purchased in 2006. Meanwhile, the empty halls were torn off completely. In the near future different residential projects shall find there a place.
4. NAXOS AS A CREATIVE FREE SPACE
The art of the urban metropolises can hardly be found in the conventional galleries and museums. It only becomes visible and understandable if one breaks free of the bourgeois art concept and instead goes onto the streets. Whole districts have turned out as museums of an urban underground culture and found a creative expression in the various formations of streetart within the last decades.
Nevertheless, if it's only about the penetrating marking of ones own signature or a scratching onto a wall, it gets caught in a dead end of egocentric and destructive behaviour. Instead streetart unfolds its constructive potential as a reclaiming of public areas, when critical impulses are given and positive energies are released. In this meaning the significance of the Naxos-Halls changed at times. They turned into a creative free space and a museum of the underground, animated by all those Naxos-Creatures.

KREATIVE FREIRÄUME IN DEN NAXOS-HALLEN IN FRANKFURT *
1. NAXOS-GESTALTEN
Hinter den Mauern der ehemaligen Naxos-Fabrikhallen eröffnete sich eine ganz eigene Welt. Wer entsprechend offen war, der traf queere Rabbits, die lächelnden City-Ghosts oder eine Alice, die fantasievoll ihr Wunderland gestaltete. In anderen Bereichen waren es surreale Buchstaben, die ein Eigenleben entwickelten, und Mondsterne°*, die in Einkaufswagen tanzten, oder auch seltsame, scheinbar körperlose Gesichter, die für einen kurzen Moment im Licht einer Taschenlampe sichtbar waren, um dann wieder im Dunkel der Räume zu verschwinden. All diese Gestalten der zerfallenen Naxos-Hallen waren auf der Suche nach Wirklichkeitsnischen, in denen sie existieren konnten - und sie waren fündig geworden.
2. DIE GESCHICHTE DER NAXOS-UNION
In der Geschichte der Naxos-Union spiegelten sich nachhaltig die Polaritäten eines kapitalistischen Wirtschaftssystems. Der Naxos-Union gelang der Aufstieg zu einem weltweit führenden Unternehmen, das später jedoch an veränderten Produktionsbedingungen zerbrach. Die in Frankfurt am Main beheimatete Firma sicherte sich die Rechte für den Abbau eines besonderen Schmirgelgesteins auf der griechischen Insel Naxos und begann um 1880 mit der über Jahrzehnte hinweg äußerst profitablen Produktion von Schleifmaschinen. Erst in den achtziger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts verlor das Unternehmen rapide an Bedeutung. Die Besitzverhältnisse wandelten sich mehrfach und die ursprünglichen Produktionsstätten in Frankfurt wurden aufgegeben. Ihre dunkelste Zeit erlebte die Naxos-Union im Zuge der faschistischen Terrorherrschaft, als der Betrieb vor allem durch den Einsatz von ZwangsarbeiterInnen aufrecht erhalten wurde.
3. DIE NAXOS-GEBÄUDE
Das ehemalige Gelände der Naxos-Union an der Wittelsbacherallee in Frankfurt unterteilte sich nach dem Niedergang des Unternehmens in drei Bereiche. Ein ehemaliges großes Verwaltungsgebäude und die im mittleren Bereich liegende ehemalige Produktionshalle wurden in mehreren Etappen saniert und werden von Agenturen bzw. Theater- und Kunstprojekten genutzt. Die mittlere Halle ist inzwischen auf Grund ihrer architektonischen bzw. historischen Bedeutung als ein Denkmal der Industriekultur geschützt. Der dritte Gebäudekomplex mit mehreren Hallen und einem weiteren Verwaltungsgebäude stand über viele Jahre hinweg weitgehend leer und verfiel zunehmend. Gleichzeitig entwickelte er sich trotz Verbote und Absperrungen als ein Freiraum für zahlreiche KünstlerInnen, welche die Räumlichkeiten kreativ gestalteten und immer wieder mit neuem Leben erfüllten. Nachdem die Stadt Frankfurt Teile des Geländes zu einem völlig überhöhten Preis über Jahre hinweg gemietet hatte, erwarb sie 2006 das gesamte Grundstück. Inzwischen wurden die leer stehenden Hallen vollständig abgerissen. Zukünftig sollen dort verschiedene Wohnprojekte einen Platz finden.
4. NAXOS ALS KREATIVER FREIRAUM
Die Kunst der Metropolen findet sich kaum in den herkömmlichen Galerien und Museen. Sie wird erst dann wirklich sichtbar und verständlich, wenn man sich vom bürgerlichen Kunstbegriff löst und auf die Straßen begibt. Ganze Stadtteile sind zu Museen einer urbanen Kultur des Undergrounds geworden, die in den letzten Jahrzehnten in den vielfältigen Ausformungen der Streetart einen kreativen Ausdruck gefunden hat. Allerdings bleibt sie überall dort, wo es nur um die penetrante Markierung mit dem eigenen Namenzug oder ein Bekritzeln freier Flächen geht, in egozentrischen und destruktiven Sackgassen verfangen. Ihr konstruktives Potential entfaltet die Streetart als Wiederaneignung öffentlichen Raumes stattdessen überall dort, wo sie kritische Impulse gibt und positive Energien freisetzt. In diesem Sinne veränderte sich zeitweise die Bedeutung der Naxos-Hallen und sie wurden als kreativer Freiraum zu einem Museum des Untergrunds, das die Naxos-Gestalten mit Leben erfüllten.

Eigenleben ist ein Zusammenschluss von Menschen, mit vielfältigen Vorstellungen & Utopien. Wir haben uns zusammengetan um diese mit einer ebenso bunten Vielfalt an Ansätzen zu erreichen. Dabei eint uns der Wunsch das falsche Ganze bereits im bestehenden System zu verändern und durch Theorie, Praxis und Kunst aufzuzeigen, dass eine bessere Wirklichkeit als die bereits Erreichte möglich ist. Ansatz ist das verbinden von Gruppenkonzept, Netzwerk & Plattform; daher besteht Eigenleben aus zwei Projekten:
a) Sind wir ein fester Zusammenschluss, der gemeinsam Projekte erarbeitet, gestaltet und durchführt. Diese sollen möglichst bewusst und mindestens vorübergehend Risse in das Gefüge der gesellschaftlichen Struktur reißen und sich von dieser emanzipieren.
b) Entstehen soll eine offene Plattform für visuellen, lyrische & akustische Kunst mit politischem/kritischem Anspruch. Für die Auswahl behalten wir uns vor nur Werke zu veröffentlichen, die wir „objektiv-progressiv“ einschätzen. Dabei gehen wir gerne auf einen Diskurs mit den Autor_innen des jeweiligen Werkes ein. (Grundsätzlich schließen wir jede Diskriminierung aus!)

Es besteht die Absicht neue Perspektiven aufzuzeigen und diese abseits von ideologisch geführten Debatten und Grabenkämpfen zu entwickeln. Theorie, Praxis oder Kunst haben viele Gesichter um notwendige progressive Gesellschaftskritik zu formulieren/erklingen zu lassen/zu verbildlichen.

Funky as you get erotic poetry, music, drink and great conversation were the order of the evening at Carlitos Café and Galeria on Monday, May, 21st, 2007. "LOVE, LUST & LOSS" EROTIC POETRY NITE II presented by “Words” from El Barrio was an evening of unrestrained poetic passion, longing and the pursuit of love in all its encarnations.
This is part of a weekly open mic series with varying themes featuring poets from the metropolitan area, the nation and even some from abroad that have come to celebrate cultural diversity and the human spirit.
On any given night amazing, and sometimes well known poets, and musicians will drop in and jam unannounced. The “Words” from El Barrio open mic series is hosted by poet extraordinaire, author and activist, Bobby Gonzalez and is produced by musicologist and poet, Jaime "The Maestro" Emeric.
This Monday night there were artists from “The People’s Republic of Brooklyn”, “The Free State of Queens”, “Sovereign Kingdom of the Bronx” and the City-State island nation of New York known by its indigenous folks as Manhattan.
The evening featured Joe Falcon on Bass as well as Gillian, Gianna, Taina, Tabu’, Malik (“Wordbird” Canty), Jackie, Fabian and others.
Carlitos Cafe' and Galeria is a grass-roots non-profit El Barrio arts organization that provides various networking functions and promotes local emerging artists. Carlitos is located in El Bario's cultural corridor in a funky store-front hole-in-the-wall local on 1701 Lexington Ave (106th/107th Streets).

Der 16. JUKSS (Jugendumweltkongress) steht bevor. Dieses Jahr wird er in der
freien Waldorfschule Frankfurt/Main stattfinden.
Der JUKSS ist angesetzt vom 27.12.2008 bis 04.01.2009. Wie immer ist es
natürlich möglich, nur für einige Tage vorbeizukommen. Um die Planung (z.B.
beim Essen) zu erleichtern, bitten wir darum, sich vorher anzumelden. Schreib
an info at jukss.de oder Jukss c/o Jugendumweltbüro, Karl-Schmidt-Str. 4,
39104 Magdeburg, wie lange du kommen willst und überweise nach Möglichkeit
den TeilnehmerInnen-Beitrag schon vorher (Konto s.u.).
Ihr könnt auch spontan unangemeldet kommen, aber eine Anmeldung erleichtert
uns die Planung.
ESSEN
Das Kochkollektiv Le Sabot (www.lesabot.org) wird (mit Hilfe beim Schnibbeln)
für leckeres, warmes bioveganes Essen sorgen.
Es gibt die Möglichkeit, daneben (und klar getrennt) Infrastruktur für eine
Alternativküche anzubieten, dies muss aber von den Teilis in
Selbstorganisation passieren.
ORGANISATIONSKONZEPT
Der Jugendumweltkongress ist und wird selbst organisiert. Zu Beginn des
Kongresses löst sich das Orgateam auf und einige davon erklären sich bereit
dazu Fragen zur Organisation zu beantworten, bzw. infrastrukturelle Infos
weiterzugeben.
Das heisst, das gemäss dem Organisationsmodell der Selbstorganisation die
organisatorischen Aufgaben von den Teilnehmenden selbst übernommen werden, du
kannst dich schon im Vorfeld für bestimmte Bereiche melden, z.B. im Wiki
eintragen und deine Mitmachgruppe planen.
Der Jugendumweltkongress (JUKSS) bietet die Möglichkeit, eigene Ideen und sich
selbst mehr zu verwirklichen, da wir (frühere) Jukssorga und Jukssis
versuchen, gleichberechtigt und selbstbestimmt zusammen zu leben. Auf dem
JUKSS begegnen sich Menschen jeden Alters, setzen sich in Workshops und auch
darüber hinaus mit den Themen, welche sie beschäftigen auseinander, knüpfen
Kontakte, planen und starten Aktionen und Projekte, musizieren, feiern auf
Konzerten, genießen Kino, kochen und gestalten selbstbestimmt und
selbstorganisiert das tägliche Miteinander, welches auch Auf -und Abbau sowie
Putzen, Aufräumen und Gestalten umfasst. Jede(r) bringt ihr/sein Teil ein.

VORJUKSS
Einige Menschen, die keine Lust auf weihnachtliche Feierlichkeiten haben,
planen, die Tage vor dem JUKSS bei der Waldbesetzung gegen den Frankfurter
Flughafen zu verbringen. Seit mehreren Monaten wird der Kelsterbacher Wald
aus Protest gegen den geplanten Bau der Landebahn Nordwest besetzt. Infos:

WEGBESCHREIBUNG
Vom Hauptbahnhof Frankfurt/Main nehmt eine beliebige S-Bahn zur Hauptwache
(S1-6, S8-9 fahren alle dort hin). Anschließend mit der U1, U2 oder U3 zur
U-Bahn-Haltestelle Hügelstraße. Von dort geht ein kurzes Stück die
Eschersheimer Landstraße zurück. Links biegt die Friedlebenstraße ab, dort
befindet sich die Schule und der JUKSS.
MITBRINGEN?
Schlafsack, Isomatte, Instrumente, Liederbücher, Jongliersachen, Material für
die Info- und Büchertische, evtl. über deine (Umweltschutz-)Gruppe,
Ausstellungen, ... Außerdem: Was-wir-noch-brauchen-Liste auf
MITMACHEN?
Für die Vorbereitung im Vorfeld wie auch vor Ort können wir noch deine Hilfe
gebrauchen. Auch du kannst Workshops, Erfahrungsaustauschrunden und
Diskussionen anleiern, oder Leute einladen, welche auf einem Thema besonders
bewandert sind. Dazu musst du keinE SpezialistIn sein. Auch Theater,
Akrobatik-Performance, Klampfenrunde oder Kino. Das Kulturprogramm soll
heißgeredete Köpfe wieder abkühlen und neben dem inhaltlichen Teil nicht zu
kurz kommen. Falls du Bands oder Theatergruppen auf Lager hast, die Lust
haben auf dem Jukss zu spielen, kontaktiere uns.
Dringend suchen wir insbesondere:
- Menschen in Frankfurt und Umgebung, die vor Ort noch Werbung machen,
Materialien und Transportmöglichkeiten organisieren und/oder Schlafplätze zur
Verfügung stellen können
- Leute die sich an der Vorbereitung der Info-, Kommunikations- und
Entscheidungsfindungs-Struktur beteiligen wollen
GELD/BEITRAG
Nach Selbsteinschätzung, Richtwert 7-9 Euro pro Tag; Lebensmittel (z.B.
selbstangebaute Bio Feldfrüchte - Kartoffeln u.a.) etc. nach Absprache auch
möglich; Kein/wenig Geld zu besitzen ist kein Hinderungsgrund zum Jukss zu
kommen. Wer mehr als den Richtwert gibt, ermöglicht Menschen mit wenig Geld
die Teilnahme. Bitte Teilibeitrag möglichst im Voraus an den Trägerverein
Jugendaktionstage e.V. überweisen
RECHTLICHE HINWEISE
- Tiere bitte daheim lassen.
- Es gibt ein Rauchverbot im ganzen Gebäude.
- Auf dem Jukss besteht keine Übernahme der Aufsichtspflicht! Somit ist eine

Funky as you get erotic poetry, music, drink and great conversation were the order of the evening at Carlitos Café and Galeria on Monday, May, 21st, 2007. "LOVE, LUST & LOSS" EROTIC POETRY NITE II presented by “Words” from El Barrio was an evening of unrestrained poetic passion, longing and the pursuit of love in all its encarnations.
This is part of a weekly open mic series with varying themes featuring poets from the metropolitan area, the nation and even some from abroad that have come to celebrate cultural diversity and the human spirit.
On any given night amazing, and sometimes well known poets, and musicians will drop in and jam unannounced. The “Words” from El Barrio open mic series is hosted by poet extraordinaire, author and activist, Bobby Gonzalez and is produced by musicologist and poet, Jaime "The Maestro" Emeric.
This Monday night there were artists from “The People’s Republic of Brooklyn”, “The Free State of Queens”, “Sovereign Kingdom of the Bronx” and the City-State island nation of New York known by its indigenous folks as Manhattan.
The evening featured Joe Falcon on Bass as well as Gillian, Gianna, Taina, Tabu’, Malik (“Wordbird” Canty), Jackie, Fabian and others.
Carlitos Cafe' and Galeria is a grass-roots non-profit El Barrio arts organization that provides various networking functions and promotes local emerging artists. Carlitos is located in El Bario's cultural corridor in a funky store-front hole-in-the-wall local on 1701 Lexington Ave (106th/107th Streets).

¡NADIE NOS QUITA LO BAILADO!
Ya estamos cumpliendo los 10 años y seguiremos por más.
En enero de 2001 se comenzaron las actividades en este centro social, donde se han brindado talleres recreativos para chicos del barrio, charlas-debate, proyecciones de películas, documentales, infantiles. Con mucho esfuerzo y la gran ayuda de compas, amistades y vecinos creamos cooperativas de trabajo autogestivo, venta de pan casero. Hoy por hoy, seguimos brindando talleres abiertos al público, contamos con una biblioteca con abundante material sobre la lucha social, novelas, cuentos infantiles, textos escolares, algunos libros en portugués,en inglés y una recopilación de folletos y fanzines.
Seguimos trabajando sin descanso para mejorar el espacio, fomentando las actividades artísticas, basándonos en el apoyo mutuo y el juego cooperativo. Continuamos realizando la huerta orgánica, también basada en los mismos principios y en el respeto a la tierra que nos alimenta.
Nos proponemos afianzarnos cada vez más y comenzar en el mes de nuestro aniversario con una serie de actividades donde haremos una muestra de los talleres, videos y reportajes hechos en el lugar, exposición de escritos y fotos del centro social.
Como siempre, esperamos que nuestro grito de lucha llegue a muchos corazones, que retumbe en los oídos receptivos y se haga viva voz, y que con la fuerza en conjunto se traspasen los muros y divisiones que nos imponen desde el poder. ¡Que en todas partes se vea que en este humilde barrio de Laferrere también se lucha para acabar con las injusticias sociales!

DER ERSTE WELTKONGRESS DER HEDONISTISCHEN INTERNATIONALE
Die Hedonistische Internationale gründete sich 2006, um Politik zu erproben und selbst zu machen. Ihre Aktionen reichen von Demonstrationen für Grundrechte bis zu unangemeldeten Grammophonkonzerten in Schweizer Seniorenheimen. Die Hedonistische Internationale versteht sich nicht als Organisation, sondern als Idee mit der Menschen experimentieren und protestieren können. Ein Manifest, das in 14 Sprachen übersetzt ist, bildet dabei den Handlungsrahmen. Mittlerweile gibt es etwa 30 Sektionen in verschiedenen Ländern, die sich der Idee angeschlossen haben und alle auf ihre Weise Politik mit Spaß verbinden.
Vom 10.-13. Juni 2010 findet der Erste Weltkongress der Hedonistischen Internationale in Kaulitz zwischen Berlin und Hamburg statt. Der dreitägige Kongress soll alle Sektionen erstmals zusammenbringen, ihre Vernetzung fördern und neue Perspektiven des Protests eröffnen. Dabei werden theoretische Fundamente diskutiert, neue Aktionsformen erprobt, zukünftige gesellschaftliche Konflikte erörtert und alternative Möglichkeiten politischer Intervention debattiert und durch ein buntes hedonistisches Rahmenprogramm ergänzt.
Der Kongress ist darauf anlegt, dass spontan weitere Beiträge, Panels und Workshops das Programm ergänzen. Ihr könnt also das Programm direkt vor Ort beeinflussen und gestalten. Das Kongressprogramm orientiert sich an den drei Themensträngen Protest, Party, Action.
Der Weltkongress ist kein von langer Hand geplanter Event, bei dem die Gäste nur zum Konsumieren kommen. Vielmehr lebt der Kongress vom Selbermachen, vom Mitmachen und von Deinen Ideen. Alle Menschen, die auf den Kongress kommen, sind zugleich auch Veranstalter. Sie sind gleichermaßen verantwortlich – denn nur so macht die Geschichte richtig Spaß.
Niemand verdient Geld mit und auf dem Kongress. Wer helfen möchte, melde sich auf dem Kongress einfach bei der Workstation. Es gibt genug zu tun. Spontan, geplant oder einfach nur so.

Graffiti artists from Egypt, Tunisia and Germany will create a street art gallery from 10th of April around the Tutankhamun exhibition hall in Frankfurt. Some of the best known and most active street artists from Egypt will participate, including Aya Tarek, Ammar Abo Bakr and Ganzeer. El Seed, a street artist from Tunisia whose work has influenced graffiti artists around the Arab world, and Andreas von Chrzanowski aka Case from Germany, who recently did murals in Egypt, complete this distinguished line-up.
Since the start of the Arab uprisings the Middle East has seen an unparalleled explosion of graffiti. Many slogans which were later sung by the people on the streets first appeared on walls from Tunisia to Bahrain. Egypt has played a remarkable role in this phenomenon. Even when the army tanks rolled onto Tahrir Square in Cairo, they were immediately adorned with graffiti. Along with people from all walks of life, artists, calligraphers and designers took over the public space. In no time a vital and now globally acclaimed street art scene emerged."

¡NADIE NOS QUITA LO BAILADO!
Ya estamos cumpliendo los 10 años y seguiremos por más.
En enero de 2001 se comenzaron las actividades en este centro social, donde se han brindado talleres recreativos para chicos del barrio, charlas-debate, proyecciones de películas, documentales, infantiles. Con mucho esfuerzo y la gran ayuda de compas, amistades y vecinos creamos cooperativas de trabajo autogestivo, venta de pan casero. Hoy por hoy, seguimos brindando talleres abiertos al público, contamos con una biblioteca con abundante material sobre la lucha social, novelas, cuentos infantiles, textos escolares, algunos libros en portugués,en inglés y una recopilación de folletos y fanzines.
Seguimos trabajando sin descanso para mejorar el espacio, fomentando las actividades artísticas, basándonos en el apoyo mutuo y el juego cooperativo. Continuamos realizando la huerta orgánica, también basada en los mismos principios y en el respeto a la tierra que nos alimenta.
Nos proponemos afianzarnos cada vez más y comenzar en el mes de nuestro aniversario con una serie de actividades donde haremos una muestra de los talleres, videos y reportajes hechos en el lugar, exposición de escritos y fotos del centro social.
Como siempre, esperamos que nuestro grito de lucha llegue a muchos corazones, que retumbe en los oídos receptivos y se haga viva voz, y que con la fuerza en conjunto se traspasen los muros y divisiones que nos imponen desde el poder. ¡Que en todas partes se vea que en este humilde barrio de Laferrere también se lucha para acabar con las injusticias sociales!

DER ERSTE WELTKONGRESS DER HEDONISTISCHEN INTERNATIONALE
Die Hedonistische Internationale gründete sich 2006, um Politik zu erproben und selbst zu machen. Ihre Aktionen reichen von Demonstrationen für Grundrechte bis zu unangemeldeten Grammophonkonzerten in Schweizer Seniorenheimen. Die Hedonistische Internationale versteht sich nicht als Organisation, sondern als Idee mit der Menschen experimentieren und protestieren können. Ein Manifest, das in 14 Sprachen übersetzt ist, bildet dabei den Handlungsrahmen. Mittlerweile gibt es etwa 30 Sektionen in verschiedenen Ländern, die sich der Idee angeschlossen haben und alle auf ihre Weise Politik mit Spaß verbinden.
Vom 10.-13. Juni 2010 findet der Erste Weltkongress der Hedonistischen Internationale in Kaulitz zwischen Berlin und Hamburg statt. Der dreitägige Kongress soll alle Sektionen erstmals zusammenbringen, ihre Vernetzung fördern und neue Perspektiven des Protests eröffnen. Dabei werden theoretische Fundamente diskutiert, neue Aktionsformen erprobt, zukünftige gesellschaftliche Konflikte erörtert und alternative Möglichkeiten politischer Intervention debattiert und durch ein buntes hedonistisches Rahmenprogramm ergänzt.
Der Kongress ist darauf anlegt, dass spontan weitere Beiträge, Panels und Workshops das Programm ergänzen. Ihr könnt also das Programm direkt vor Ort beeinflussen und gestalten. Das Kongressprogramm orientiert sich an den drei Themensträngen Protest, Party, Action.
Der Weltkongress ist kein von langer Hand geplanter Event, bei dem die Gäste nur zum Konsumieren kommen. Vielmehr lebt der Kongress vom Selbermachen, vom Mitmachen und von Deinen Ideen. Alle Menschen, die auf den Kongress kommen, sind zugleich auch Veranstalter. Sie sind gleichermaßen verantwortlich – denn nur so macht die Geschichte richtig Spaß.
Niemand verdient Geld mit und auf dem Kongress. Wer helfen möchte, melde sich auf dem Kongress einfach bei der Workstation. Es gibt genug zu tun. Spontan, geplant oder einfach nur so.
Auf dem Kongress gibt es ein Kulturprogramm mit Kino, Konzerten, Theater und Dingen, von denen wir jetzt noch nichts wissen, weil dies die Menschen auf dem Kongress selbst in die Hand nehmen. Also Du. Selbermachen ist Konzept. Wir rechnen ungefähr mit 300 Leuten, die die Tage auf dem Gelände selbstbestimmt gestalten.

Funky as you get erotic poetry, music, drink and great conversation were the order of the evening at Carlitos Café and Galeria on Monday, May, 21st, 2007. "LOVE, LUST & LOSS" EROTIC POETRY NITE II presented by “Words” from El Barrio was an evening of unrestrained poetic passion, longing and the pursuit of love in all its encarnations.
This is part of a weekly open mic series with varying themes featuring poets from the metropolitan area, the nation and even some from abroad that have come to celebrate cultural diversity and the human spirit.
On any given night amazing, and sometimes well known poets, and musicians will drop in and jam unannounced. The “Words” from El Barrio open mic series is hosted by poet extraordinaire, author and activist, Bobby Gonzalez and is produced by musicologist and poet, Jaime "The Maestro" Emeric.
This Monday night there were artists from “The People’s Republic of Brooklyn”, “The Free State of Queens”, “Sovereign Kingdom of the Bronx” and the City-State island nation of New York known by its indigenous folks as Manhattan.
The evening featured Joe Falcon on Bass as well as Gillian, Gianna, Taina, Tabu’, Malik (“Wordbird” Canty), Jackie, Fabian and others.
Carlitos Cafe' and Galeria is a grass-roots non-profit El Barrio arts organization that provides various networking functions and promotes local emerging artists. Carlitos is located in El Bario's cultural corridor in a funky store-front hole-in-the-wall local on 1701 Lexington Ave (106th/107th Streets).

The 5th FUTUROLOGICAL SYMPOSIUM
ON FREE CULTURAL SPACES:
Individuals and Collectives within Free Cultural Spaces, (a spiral meeting)
On the 24th, 25th, & 26th of September2015, Free-Town Christiania, in Copenhagen, Denmark, will host the 5th Futurological Symposium On Free Cultural Spaces (FCS): Individuals and Collectives within Free Cultural Spaces.
The term Futurological Symposium is taken from Stanislav Lem’s novel The Futurological Congress (1971) and refers to a deep commitment to developing an evolutionary perspective on Free Cultural Spaces (FCS) or Autonomous Zones. Ruigoord, the Dutch village that originated the Symposium idea, has been an active Free Cultural Space since 1973. Along with ThyLejren (the People’s Lair) and Christiania in Denmark, Ruigoord is one of the longest-lived of the Northern European utopian communities that emerged from the tumult of the Sixties. Its foundational principles, and thus those of the Futurological Symposia, rest on the notion of Homo Ludens, Playful Mankind ― the idea that free and playful interactions between people generate powerful communal impulses.
Since their inception, the Futurological Symposia have aimed to co-create a dynamic, lasting, sustainable, non-hierarchical global network of FCS; to originate a transnational platform for independent cultural experimentation; and to exchange ideas about the forms and content of free cultural circuits. Free Cultural Spaces take many forms, including squatted and hacker communities, pirate radio collectives and stations, free-towns, Eco-villages, perma-culture centers, independent festivals, (semi) nomadic groups, communes and communities, occupied grounds, Unceded Indigenous Territories, etc. When connected as an independent collaborative network, they have the potential to trigger profound changes in individual participants and society at large by disseminating values and practices that can generate new and creative alternatives to mainstream culture.
The 1st Symposium was organized as a response to an increasing oppression of Amsterdam’s counter-cultural communities and focused on the historical projects that had transformed the city into a pioneering Free-Town in the 60s and 70s.
The 2nd Symposium engaged different disciplines (philosophy, futurology, anthropology, politics, ecology, town planning etc.) and welcomed representatives from The Cultural Defense Line of Amsterdam in an attempt to conceptualize and organize a broad association of collective efforts.
The 3rd Symposium was an international gathering aimed at creating a solidarity league and formulating a treaty of mutual cooperation among FCS and the people involved with them. Representatives from Europe ― Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the UK; Eastern Europe ― Russia; Asia ― Mongolia; North America ― the USA and Canada; and South America ― Colombia, gathered to share their visions. It was during this 3rd Symposium that the first steps were taken towards drafting a “Declaration of the Universal Spaces takes place in Christiania, Denmark on the 24th, 25th and 26th of September Value of Free Cultural Spaces.”
In August of 2014, the 4th Futurological Symposium: Creating Unity in Diversity took place at the Boom Festival, at Idahna-a-Nova Lake, Portugal. The Boom Symposium focused on festival culture. Festivals are playgrounds for the experience of freedom. They help shape group spirit and ethos and facilitate direct human contact among people who are nowadays often connected solely via the Internet. A festival experience often accelerate an individual’s awareness that life offers multiple alternatives to the constrained and constraining experiences that mainstream society advocates. It can establish deep and mutually enriching connections between FCS and experiences of personal liberation. The importance of festivals for the co-creation of a counter-cultural reality links festival culture to autonomous zones around the world.
The Boom Symposium explored the festival parameters of free cultural experience, and linked the Futurological Symposium project to Project Nuevo Mundo, an international network of sustainability-focused communities based in Mexico and Central America. Particularly interesting features of the “free culture” that animates FCS began to emerge, including the importance of developing and/or recognizing rites of passage to the mindsets that recognize the potentialities contained in FCS.
At Christiania, the 5th Symposium will debate the interactive importance of Individual and Collective Aims within Free Cultural Spaces.
The Futurological Symposiums are manifestations of a nomadic, decentralized event. Future Symposiums will take place in different FCS, and will focus on different aspects of FCS networks. The diversity between the projects and perspectives presented at each event will constitute its distinctive feature, with the connections, collaboration, and continuities it generates providing new and exciting synergies to the overall Futurological Symposium project.

Eigenleben ist ein Zusammenschluss von Menschen, mit vielfältigen Vorstellungen & Utopien. Wir haben uns zusammengetan um diese mit einer ebenso bunten Vielfalt an Ansätzen zu erreichen. Dabei eint uns der Wunsch das falsche Ganze bereits im bestehenden System zu verändern und durch Theorie, Praxis und Kunst aufzuzeigen, dass eine bessere Wirklichkeit als die bereits Erreichte möglich ist. Ansatz ist das verbinden von Gruppenkonzept, Netzwerk & Plattform; daher besteht Eigenleben aus zwei Projekten:
a) Sind wir ein fester Zusammenschluss, der gemeinsam Projekte erarbeitet, gestaltet und durchführt. Diese sollen möglichst bewusst und mindestens vorübergehend Risse in das Gefüge der gesellschaftlichen Struktur reißen und sich von dieser emanzipieren.
b) Entstehen soll eine offene Plattform für visuellen, lyrische & akustische Kunst mit politischem/kritischem Anspruch. Für die Auswahl behalten wir uns vor nur Werke zu veröffentlichen, die wir „objektiv-progressiv“ einschätzen. Dabei gehen wir gerne auf einen Diskurs mit den Autor_innen des jeweiligen Werkes ein. (Grundsätzlich schließen wir jede Diskriminierung aus!)

Fast Forward - „Noch eine Kippe, dann geht’s los!“
Es besteht die Absicht neue Perspektiven aufzuzeigen und diese abseits von ideologisch geführten Debatten und Grabenkämpfen zu entwickeln. Theorie, Praxis oder Kunst haben viele Gesichter um notwendige progressive Gesellschaftskritik zu formulieren/erklingen zu lassen/zu verbildlichen.
Ob auf Demonstrationen, auf Partys, im Alltag oder in künstlerischen Werken, ob – mit leider manchmal notwendiger – Militanz oder „vernunftbegabtem Pazifismus“, ob auf der Straße, in Institutionen, als Gewerkschaft oder als Graswurzel-Bewegung, ob als Häuserkampf, Gentrification, reclaim the streets, Spektakel, Anti-Nazi-Aktionen oder Vernissages:
