This photo was taken by the camera trained on Camelback Mountain. To see this view in the present, along with the other four available views from the Phoenix visibility cams, simply follow this link.
The light show from constant bolts of lightning are spectacular enough, but when combining the colors of sunset, the performance becomes nearly unbelievable! Saguaro NP West, AZ.

After weeks of unrelentingly clear blue, boring skies, Phoenix suddenly experienced a cavalcade of colorful cloud canopies. The arrival of some cloud cover also brought an end to a 14-day streak of consecutive days with temperatures above 100 degrees F -- not a common phenomenon in May!
Although this looks like a tint-job, the sun did all the tinting here, and these are the actual colors and tones captured in the RAW image.
This was shot near Baseline Road at about 19th Avenue on the afternoon of June 27, 2008, during the Gila River fire. Behind me and to my left, the sun was shining through a clear blue sky, but to my left and in front of me, thick black smoke was sucking away all the light. A crisp, clear line of demarcation between light and dark bordered this canal, so that the palm trees and the ground beneath them were well lit, but everything else in view was as dark as though night had fallen.
A scene reminiscent of Dante, this is west Phoenix, at sunset on November 27, 2007, as seen from atop the city morgue.
This is from one of my first photo-journeys to South Mountain with my first camera, the Cannon Powershot S3IS.
Fictional and real-life drama sit cheek-by-jowl on Washington Street in downtown Phoenix, where the Dodge Theater is neighbor to the Phoenix Municipal Court.
After socked-in skies and pouring rain for two consecutive days, the blue that returned to our skies, having been swept free of pollution, seemed much bluer and prettier than usual.
Camelback Mountain is probably the most widely known landmark in Phoenix, but since the mountain only has one "hump," it actually resembles a dromedary, A camel would have two humps.
