MYLOI, ARGOLIS, PELOPONNESE - ΜΥΛΟΙ, ΑΡΓΟΛΙΔΑ
Myloi is a village in the southwestern part of Argolis, Greece which acquired significance during the War of Independence. It is where Theodoros Kolokotronis (leader of the revolutionary forces) had his headquarters during the seige of Nafplio (1824). In June 1825 General Makriyiannis was wounded here at the battle in which the army of Ibrahim was defeated.

Mycenae is an archaeological site near Mykines in Argolis, north-eastern Peloponnese, Greece.
In the second millennium BC, Mycenae was one of the major centres of Greek civilization, a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece, Crete, the Cyclades and parts of southwest Anatolia. The period of Greek history from about 1600 BC to about 1100 BC is called Mycenaean in reference to Mycenae. At its peak in 1350 BC, the citadel and lower town had a population of 30,000 and an area of 32 hectares.

After the 1974 Cyprus conflict the whole of the resort of Varosha (Maras in Turkish) in Famagusta was sealed off by the Turkish military. I had previously visited Famagusta in 1986 when it was only possibly to look into Varosha through a wire fence on the beach and a ban on photography was actively enforced. To my suprise it is now possible to enter a part of the area and photography is allowed. The story of Varosha is both complicated and heart-breaking. If you aren't aware of it and would like to know more here's a good place to start en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varosha,_Famagusta

Merbaka (Greek: Μέρμπακα), but officially Agia Trias (Αγία Τρίας, "Holy Trinity"), is a village in the province of Argolis.
The modern church of the Holy Trinity, first built in 1898, was demolished and rebuilt in 1934.
Of more interest is the ancient church of the Panagias built in the twelfth century. Unfortunately, we could not enter.
As a Fleming I read that Merbaka is named after a Flemish monk for William of Moerbeke, a 13th-century Roman Catholic archbishop of Corinth. (Wikipedia).

Mycenae was an important city in ancient times, centrally located in the Greek landscape of Argolis 25 km southwest of Corinth, and once the main political and cultural center of the Mycenaean civilization named after Mycenae.
The impressive royal fortress (the "acropolis") of Mycenae was inhabited only by the ruling class: working and merchants lived well beyond the walls. The fortress is surrounded by a 900 m long and on average 6 m thick wall, built of giant ("cyclopean") stone blocks of various sizes.

Spetses (Modern Greek: Σπέτσες, Katharevousa: Σπέτσαι, Spetsai, Ancient: Πιτυούσσα, "Pityoussa") is an island and a municipality in the Islands regional unit, Attica, Greece. It is sometimes included as one of the Saronic Islands. Until 1948, it was part of the old prefecture of Argolidocorinthia, which is now split into Argolis and Corinthia. In ancient times, it was known as Pityoussa, and later as Petses.
El teatro de Epidauro tiene gran importancia porque es el único teatro griego que se conserva integro, tal y como lo hicieron los griegos sin ser modificado por los romanos. Es el modelo de numerosos teatros griegos.
Grobowiec Klitajmestry wybudowano ok. 1200 r. p.n.e. w Mykenach.
W drugiej połowie II tysiąclecia p.n.e. stanowiły ośrodek kultury mykeńskiej, obejmującej całą Grecję epoki brązu, a której imponujące pozostałości w postaci dobrze zachowanych ruin i archeologicznych artefaktów podziwiać możemy do dzisiaj. Kultura mykeńska osiągnęła szczyt swojego rozwoju w okresie pomiędzy 1300 a 1100 r. p.n.e.
Miasto słynne jest też dzięki Homerowi, albowiem wedle Iliady, armia grecka pod Troją dowodzona była przez króla Myken, Agamemnona.

The vaulted Tomb of Clytemnestra in Mycenae dates to about 1,200 B.C.
The tomb, named after the doomed wife of Agamemnon, was the last tholos tomb erected at Mycenae. It was hidden beneath the theatre built at Mycenae in the Hellenistic period, and consequently the tomb remained undetected until the early 19th century. Alerted to the discovery, the Turkish governor, Veli Pasha of Nauplion, broke through its roof in order to plunder the burial chamber. In 1951, the damaged upper part of this tomb was restored.
Mycenae, situated in Argolis, in the north eastern part of Peloponnese, is the well known centre of the Mycenaean civilisation (16th-12th century BC) and the site yielded some most important and beautiful archaeological objects. Legend has it that Mycenae was founded by Perseus, and the entire culture of mainlad Greece during the Bronze age was named Mycenaean during the late Helladic period. With its legents, art, and ideas, Mycenean culture reached its zenith from 1300 BCE until 1100 BCE. Mycenae is famous also because of its association with Homer's Iliad. In Iliad, the Greeks were led by the king of Mycenae, Agamemnon.
