This area burned severely in 2006. Despite the burn, the cicada, Platypedia putnami, remains abundant in the pines.
At the conclusion of the 1979 rebuild, at last we had a decent maintenance area, with a bench for each technician and masses of storage space. This was about the neatest it ever was.

The former military training area Münsingen is now part of Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve.
Through the military use, nature was largely protected from civilization. Therefore you can find, even today, the typical pasture landscape that was common on the Swabian Alb in the 19th century.
Now it is a magnificent region. Perfect to hike or to bike. But it's not allowed to leave the official trails. It could be dangerous to life!
