Clear skies, light holiday commute traffic, and a recent snow storm in the mountains combined to allow me this view of Los Angeles tonight at sunset.

Armsmear was planned for Colt's 1856 marriage to Elizabeth Hart Jarvis, and constructed in 1856 to designs by an unknown architect, possibly local architect Octavius Jordan or factory engineer H. A. G. Pomery, on grounds overlooking the recently completed Colt Armory. It was described by a contemporary thus: "an Italian villa in stone, massive, noble, refined, yet not carrying out any decided principle of architecture, it is like its originator, bold and unusual in its combinations." It features a low-pitched roof, heavy bracketed cornice, round-arched doors and windows, iron balconies, Italianate tower and details, and Turkish domes and pinnacles

What is today the Benares Historic House traces itself to 1837, when some original sections and outbuildings were constructed. The main house as it is seen today is from 1857. Originally home to four generations of the Harris and Sayers Family, today it is a museum in the City of Mississauga after the house and almost all of its contents were donated by the great-grandchildren of Captain Harris. Opened in 1995 as a public museum, the house is representative to what it would have looked like during the First World War.

The Caryatids

The porch of the Caryatids on the Erechtheion, one of the Temples on the Acropolis in Athens. This was built in 421BC to replace a temple destroyed by the Persians in 460BC. One of these ladies is in the British museum! This is apparently the place where Athena defeated Posidon for the City.

This is a picture of our Town House Spire in Aberdeen after a serious refurbishment programme. The spire has been under scaffolding for some time but now the work is complete and it looks amazing in the afternoon sun. Aberdeen Town House holds the City's civic records and also a mace presented by John F Hall in 1958.
