Dundas Square is Toronto's answer to Times Square with many advertising billboards. It is also site for outdoor concerts and festivals. It was a place for protests and demonstrations, until the authorities decided that in the name of Democracy, protests are only permitted for approved causes and for freedoms in countries far away. I was crossing the square, when the billboard above flooded the place with colour on otherwise grey drizzly day. The square was not always there. It opened in 2002 in effort to revitalize the area. To be honest, I should, but do not remember what was there before.

When I first saw this building I saw nothing but a building across the street from the Art Museum. When I came out and return to my car is when I really saw the building. First I saw the smoke glass windows with the different colors and then I saw the design. The building makes me think of Wine Bottles, there are ten of them, then I saw the clouds in two of the window, what a great abstract.

architect Piet Blom; 38 cube-shaped stilt houses and 13 business cubes at the Blaak near the Oude Haven.
One Canada Square, sometimes called Canary Wharf Tower or simply Canary Wharf, is a skyscraper in Canary Wharf, London. It was the tallest building in the United Kingdom from 1990 to 2010, standing at 770 feet (235 m) above ground level and containing 50 storeys. In late 2010, it was surpassed by the Shard (completed in July 2012).
One Canada Square was designed by architect Mr. Cesar Pelli, who based the design and shape on earlier precedents buildings that include Brookfield Place and Elizabeth Tower. The building is clad with durable stainless steel. One of the predominant features of the building is the pyramid roof, which contains a flashing aircraft warning light, a rare feature for buildings in the United Kingdom. The distinctive pyramid pinnacle is 800 feet (240 m) above sea level.
One Canada Square is primarily used for offices, though there are some retail units on the lower ground floor. It is a prestigious location for offices and as of May 2017 was 100% let. The building is recognised as a London landmark, and it has gained much attention through film, television, and other media as one of the tallest buildings in the United Kingdom
The buildings were both started in 1885 with the Jail opening in 1886 and the Court House in 1887. Originally, the Council had decided to open the buildings on the date of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee which was June 22, 1887. It was suggested to allow $500.00 to pay for the festivities. However, the money was returned to a general fund as it was never spent because the buildings were opened instead on May 9, at the beginning of the spring assizes
George F. Durand was born in 1850 to Scottish parents. His artistic ability encouraged his father to enroll him in Peel’s Art School, London, where after two years of study, specializing in marble sculpturing, Durand began his studies in architecture in apprenticeship with London architect, William Robinson. After completing his apprenticeship, Durand moved to the United States, where he helped with the designs of the New York State Capital Building for a short time.

The Fram (‘Forward’) is a three-masted schooner (1892) designed by the Scottish-Norwegian naval architect Colin Archer.
The Fram is a three-masted schooner with an overall length of 39 metres (127 feet 11 inches) and a beam of 11 metres (36 feet 1 inch). The ship is both exceptionally wide and exceptionally shallow to better withstand the forces of the ice. The disadvantage of this design was that it rolled more than most ships in heavy seas.
She was used on three historic polar expeditions:
Nansen Arctic Expedition (1893-1896).
Sverdrup's Arctic expedition (1898-1902).
Amundsen's South Pole expedition (1910-1912).
No other expedition yacht has gone further north or south. It was a milestone in exploration.

The National Wallace Monument (generally known as the Wallace Monument) is a tower standing on the shoulder of the Abbey Craig, a hilltop overlooking Stirling in Scotland. It commemorates Sir William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish hero.
The tower was constructed following a fundraising campaign, which accompanied a resurgence of Scottish national identity in the 19th century. In addition to public subscription, it was partially funded by contributions from a number of foreign donors, including Italian national leader Giuseppe Garibaldi. The foundation stone was laid in 1861 by the Duke of Atholl in his role as Grand Master Mason of Scotland with a short speech given by Sir Archibald Alison.
It was completed in 1869 to the designs of architect John Thomas Rochead at a cost of £18,000, the monument is a 67-metre (220-foot) sandstone tower, built in the Victorian Gothic style.

Samuel Beckett Bridge is a cable-stayed swingbridge in Dublin, Ireland. Architect Santiago Calatrava was the lead designer of the bridge. It is capable of opening through an angle of 90 degrees allowing ships to pass through. The bridge is named for Irish writer Samuel Beckett (1906–1989). It was officially opened on 10 December 2009.

A part of American history and local folklore meet at Singer Castle on Dark Island, located on the St. Lawrence River. Singer Castle is the only remaining/existing castle on our river to be completed, fully furnished and resided in during the heyday of the great builders and industrials in New York. Calumet and Castle Rest (Pullman) were both completed and lived in. (And both were prior to Towers.) The Castle remained in the possession of the original owners, the Bourne family, from its construction in 1905 until the mid 1960’s. Frederick Bourne was the fifth President of the Singer Sewing Machine Company, which is where the name “Singer Castle” came from. When the Bourne family summered there, it was called “The Towers” which comes from the inspiration that Ernest Flagg, the architect whom designed this structure, had after reading the book Woodstock by Sir Walter Scott.
