dictionary: "An architect is a person who plans, designs and oversees the construction of buildings"
That's like saying Picasso put paint on canvas...
Where once there was only sky we now have 'The Sky'. - Not just a building occupying space, but an entity becoming part of that space.
In the architect's imagination they envisioned the direct relationship between the physical sky and clouds to the reflected clouds. The soft sky to the Euclidean lines of their structure. - together through their relationship they each achieve presence.
photo: a matter of gradation. As a raging storm approached from behind I aimed toward the tranquil blue sky before me. Capturing the east and west, blues turned gray, the air cooled as the breeze angered to a wind.
In reality all credit for this photo goes to the architect. I just saw what they wanted me to see.

The Roman district of Garbatella was designed in 1920 by famous architects and intended for the working class of the time. The style is the "Roman late baroque", with sinuous shapes that give life to neo-medieval buildings.
the whole district, with the fountains, the buildings, the balconies, the villas, the stuccoes and the green spaces, recalls this concept of the Garden City and can be considered a large open-air monument as well as an example of humanistic architecture

Cube houses are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest.

Glanmore was completed in 1883 for John Philpot Curran Phillips. The building was designed by Thomas Hanley, a Belleville architect who was born in Read.
This impressive yellow brick house reflects the architectural style of the eclectic Second Empire. It features an irregular shape, with bay windows and projections; iron cresting outlining the main roof; a coloured, fish-scale pattern of slates on the concave mansard roof; wide eaves supported on carved brackets, and the original wooden eavest roughs. Stone trimmed windows and doorways have semi-circular and elliptical heads, and wood trim ornaments the semi circular heads of the dormers windows

The defensive structure that was already present when the town was founded by the Romans was integrated over time with towers and bastions. The Rocchetta (small castle) built by Egidio Albornoz in the 14th century is still visible, together with the Rocca (castle) of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta that was added in 1450.
The current structure of the monument is due to Giovanni della Rovere, Prince of Senigallia, and son-in-law of Federico III da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino. It was the Duke Federico who offered Giovanni the best architects of the time: Luciano Laurana and Baccio Pontelli. The works started in 1478 with the purpose of adapting the castle to the new defensive needs. In 1503 the Rocca was conquered by Cesare Borgia, the author of the famous massacre carried out in Senigallia and described by Niccolò Machiavelli.
Rocca Roveresca is a unique monument because it was not only a fortress, but also a noble palace, and the seat of an artillery academy founded by Guidubaldo della Rovere in 1533. After the extinction of the ducal dynasty, when the town returned under the domain of the Church in 1631, the castle was used as a papal prison and an orphanage.
Today it hosts art exhibitions and prestigious cultural events.

INFO 'The Domesday Book records Ringmore as a Devon Manor known then as ‘Ronmore’. Stephen de Haccombe, and his successors are know to have built three chapels in the area, two survive as chapels today, one at Haccombe, and the other is St Nicholas in Ringmore, Shaldon.
The third local chapel is only a ruin. Church Architects are of the opinion the St Nicholas is of 13th Century origins, a fact borne out by the East end Wall with it’s Lancet window-a fact accepted as proof.
Records of various events refer to this church, and the Register of Baptisms was started in 1616, prior to that, Baptisms had taken place at Haccombe. About this time, the Carew family –now Lords of the Manor of Haccombe, carried out repairs to St Nicholas, but the fabric of the building, and it’s architectural features were kept intact. Haccombe Church supplied the Clergy to the Church until 1621 when the first Clergy signed the Baptism register - Elezeus Coke.
Burial and Marriage registers were than started –and in 1671 Lord Clifford bought several local estates including the Manor of Ringmore with St Nicholas Parish. Bishop Keppel visited the church in 1768 and decided that care was needed to restore the Church.
By 1790 a large extension had been added, and a gallery built, along with various other improvements. Mention of a Church organ was made in 1827, but was then replaced with an early version of the Harmonium called a ‘Seraphine’. 1839 saw a gallery added to the North wall for the Sunday School, and a new roof with a domed skylight and wooden Bell tower added in1841. The original font had been removed, and replaced by the existing font-which is Saxon or early Norman.
Reverend Richard Marsh-Dunn cancelled plans for any more changes to St Nicholas, as he had decided to build a new church on the reclaimed land on Riverside in Shaldon.
This was consecrated and dedicated to St.Peter, and became the new Parish Church of St.Nicholas, South Devon in 1903. St Nicholas was subsequently renovated with funds generated by a generous benefactor, and was given the official title of Chapel of Ease.'

This is part of series of photographs of the suitcase leading into Caixa Forum Madrid. Originally, I had envisioned the series as a set of monochrome images. However, when I first processed them I was so pleased with the colour versions that I decided that the monochrome versions could wait. All images of the Caixa Forum staircases, both colour and monochrome, are available here Caixa Forum Madrid.

The Avant is a multi-use tower occupying an entire city block between Elmwood Ave and Delaware Ave in Buffalo, New York. It houses class A office space, and the Embassy Suites hotel, and luxury residential condominiums on the top three floors. When it was completed in 2009, the building housed the most expensive group of condominiums ever built in the Buffalo metropolitan area. The building's remodeling is the largest recycling project in Western New York history.
Originally called the Thaddeus J. Dulski Federal Building, it was sold in April 2007 for $6.1 million and began renovated for $83 million. It is the 22nd tallest building in Buffalo.

Architect Bertrand Goldberg’s innovative vision, River City, has stood the test of time. Within the iconic landmark, the South Loop apartments and community-driven spaces combine all aspects of life (live, work, play, learn) along the Chicago River.
You'll recognize Goldberg's work from River City's bigger, older sister, Marina City (aka the "Corn Cobs") seen in the first comment below.
