Construction work continues in the Cannon House Office Building's east wing.

 

Phase 3 of the Cannon Renewal Project began in January 2021 and is scheduled to be complete in December 2022. The entire east side of the building, from the basement to the fifth floor, is closed. Work includes demolishing and rebuilding the fifth floor, conserving the exterior stonework and rehabilitating the individual office suites.

Eight bronze lamp posts were installed by the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) on the marble pedestal of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial in Union Square as part of the recent restoration project.

 

These posts are replicas of fixtures first designed and installed by Edward Pearce Casey, the architect for the memorial's pedestal.

The bust of Abraham Lincoln feature’s Lincoln’s head seemingly emerging from rough-cut marble and stands 40 inches high and weighs 375 pounds.

 

Gutzon Borglum, best known for his sculptures at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota, carved the sculpture in 1908.
