Following a dental appointment this morning, I decided to go for a walk in the local park. Found this Kingbird hunting and singing in the warm sunshine. Life is good… even after a trip to the Dentist : )

Western Kingbird
The Western Kingbird is a large flycatcher found throughout western environments of North America and as far south as Mexico.
Kingbirds are fairly large flycatchers with large heads and broad shoulders. They have heavy, straight bills, long wings, and a medium-length, square-tipped tail.
Easily found perched upright on fences and utility lines, Western Kingbirds hawk insects from the air or fly out to pick prey from the ground. They ferociously defend their territories with wing-fluttering, highly vocal attacks. Vocalizations include long series of squeaky, bubbling calls as well as single, accented kip notes.

Autumn in this long avenue of linden trees is now for me a traditional photo. A long walk more nice in a sunny morning.

On my way home from a doctors appointment I saw 2 Red Tail Hawks - - glad I brought my camera with me - - nothing like shooting through the open window before the car comes to a full stop !
I was surprised how well this burst turned out - - I have a second burst of the other hawk not quite as sharp - - but certainly complaints on this one !
Saw one Snowy Owl too - - but it was way to far for a good photo.

Crazy Tuesday - theme of May 4th, 2021: Outdated
Analogue appointment / date books of years past ... outdated in two respects - at least if you ask the younger generation ... handwritten scheduling seems to be an alien concept to them ; ))
The book of 2020 remained almost empty, at least after mid March
I don't keep all date books of yesteryears, but some I still have tucked away in my drawer to look through from time to time

Analoge Terminkalender vergangener Jahre ... veraltet in zweierlei Hinsicht - jedenfalls wenn man die jüngere Generation fragt, für die handschriftliche Terminplanung eher ein Fremdwort ist ; ))
Der Terminkalender für 2020 blieb fast leer, zumindest ab Mitte März ...
Ich bewahre nicht alle Terminplaner von früher auf, aber einige habe ich noch in meiner Schublade liegen, um sie von Zeit zu Zeit durchzusehen

We have made an appointment with the Northern Lights in this lodge in the mountains not far from the city of Alta. They have come to our rendezvous, as splendid as we hoped. Their power was not really at the max just the Kp 4 but the fact of being really far north beyond the Arctic Circle compensated for this lack of power. The encounter with the aurora is always a very emotional moment.
The place was not really ideal because there was a lot of strong light all around the lodge so we had to try to hide artificial lights to better appreciate the beauty of the northern lights.
Nous avons fixé notre rendez-vous avec les Aurores Boréales dans cette lodge dans les montagnes pas loin de la ville d'Alta. Elles sont bien venu à notre rendez-vous, aussi splendides qu'on a espéré. Leur puissance n'était pas vraiment au max juste le Kp 4 mais le fait d'être vraiment très au nord, au-delà du cercle polaire a compensé ce manque de puissance. La rencontre avec les aurores est toujours un moment très fort en émotion.
L'endroit n'était pas vraiment idéal car il y avait énormément de lumière forte tout autour de la lodge, donc il fallait essayer de se cacher des lumières artificielles pour mieux apprécier la beauté des aurores boréales.

I had an appointment for dinner with the mosquitoes that evening - I was on the menue. As long as I was moving, they left me alone. But as soon as I set up my tripod and adjusted the settings on my camera, they pounced on me. But what are a few mosquito bites and the resulting poor sleep compared to such a fantastic light situation?

Ich war an diesem Abend zum Essen mit den Mücken verabredet - Ich war das Essen. So lange ich in Bewegung war, ließen sie mich in Ruhe. Aber sobald ich mein Stativ aufstellte und die Einstellungen an meiner Kamera vornahm, stürzten sie sich auf mich. Aber was sind schon ein paar Mückenstiche und der daraus resultierende schlechte Schlaf im Vergleich zu so einer fantastischen Lichtsituation?

Quick breakfast this morning to get to an early hospital appointment for a very minor procedure (no selfies for 2 weeks) and Ray suddenly remarked on the sky. I collected a camera, set it on sunset picture effect (the only reliable way I find to capture a good sunrise) and here it is sooc and it really was that colour.
In the waiting room I carried on reading George Orwell: Diaries and this incident, recorded on 30 June 1940, made me smile:
"Later in the evening we found a mouse which had slipped down into the sink and could not get up the sides. We went to great pains to make a sort of staircase of boxes of soap flakes etc. by which it could climb out, but by this time it was so terrified that it fled under the lead strip at the edge of the sink and would not move, even when we left it alone for half an hour or so. In the end Eileen gently took it out with her fingers and let it go...."
I love the humanity in this and am trying to imagine what I would do in similar circumstances.
Doctor: "...."
Me: "What?"
Doctor: "...."
Me: "WHAT?"
Doctor: "I SAID! You're Going Deaf!"
Me: "Well Doc, That's A Little Hard To Hear."

This was taken yesterday, southwest of Black River Falls, Wisconsin. I was out and about for a hair appointment, and decided to take a little fall color drive while I was out. Even though we had quite a bit of rain this year, I've been surprised that the fall colors aren't stronger...and yet, it seems later this year. I guess I just don't have it figured out yet! ha! Hope you all enjoy!
