Another dabble with black and white! Taken a few days ago in the grounds of the Vyne, a National Trust property in North Hampshire.
The house dates from 16th century and was built for King Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain, Lord Sandys. It was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958 by the then owner Sir Charle Chute.
It has been a grade 1 listed building since April 1957 giving it legal protection from demolition or major alteration without prior consent from the Local Authority, Basingstoke and Deane Council.
In medieval times the village of Lavenham in Suffolk was one of the richest in England. It thrived on the wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries when local merchants became very wealthy.
One the ways they could show their wealth was in the building of houses which .has resulted in the village having many half timbered properties that have stood the test of time over many centuries. There are over 200 grade 1 and grade 2 listed structures in the village today.
This house, known as Cordwainers, dates from circa 15th century and is located in the High Street. It is a timber frame and plastered building with grade 2 listed protection. In the past it was the One Bell Inn but is now a private house. I particularly like the different shapes and sizes of the timber beams, the colour of the plasterwork and the blocked up doorway on the right. A magnificent property!

This photograph was taken from the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in Bosham, West Sussex and shows Church Cottage which dates from the 18th century.
Apart from the thatched cottage, I quite liked the provision of a wooden bench for quiet contemplation and the weathered and leaning gravestones which have clearly been there for some considerable time and added further atmosphere!

This tiny harbour located at the mouth of the River Alun in South West Wales has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1940.
The harbour was built in the 12th century to serve the nearby city of St Davids. Timber, coal, grain and limestone were traded through it and the remains of the lime kilns can still be seen on the side of the harbour.
Today, Porthclais is a quiet backwater used mainly by boat users and walkers. There is a small car park and a National Trust refreshment kiosk which was most welcome on the day we visited because of the weather.

The village of Lavenham in Suffolk has over 200 listed buildings, some dating back as far as the middles ages when the village became one the most prosperous places in England through its connection with the wool trade.
These cottages are grade 2 listed structures and probably date from circa 15-16th century. As listed buildings they cannot be demolished without prior approval from the local authority – in this case Babergh District Council.
Photographing these cottages, and many other buildings in Lavenham, is often difficult because of the large number of parked cars on the streets – hence this is more tightly cropped than I would have liked. Nonetheless, the message built to last still comes across loud and clear!

For those of you who have been asking and waiting to see what my new toy is...
...it's the new Apple iPad! So glad my wife let me get one. People say it's just a big iPhone but it's way more than that. I guess you'll just have to get one to know what I'm talking about.
We visited Milestones Living History Museum at Basingstoke yesterday with one of my grandsons. Owned and run by the Hampshire Cultural Trust it recreates life as it would have been in Hampshire during Victorian times and the early 1930s.
This poster caught my eye outside a recreation of a Victorian railway station and, as we spent some holidays at Weston Super Mare when I was a child, it brought back some memories.
I would add the poster predates my visits by a few decades! There is no date on it but I guess the original probably comes from Edwardian or late Victorian times.
Just a spontaneous shot with a mobile phone.
Double-sided enjoyment, Nera sleeps while Tara watches a cartoon.
One of my regular patches.
My arrival for a fungi hunt was perfectly timed to catch this rainbow and it’s reflection with my iPad

This is the 3rd season this new British species has been found in Sussex. Dawn and I found the first known (unfortunately mis-identified at the time) in the county in 2014 and after finding it again in 2015 we reported it to the SxBRC and to the Sussex County Recorder for Fungi. With his help and the taking of samples, it was confirmed by Kew in May 2015 as the new British species and this year it has appeared again in large numbers at this site.

iPad 2 is here and after resisting for few hours i found a compelling reason to buy it. i didn't know why would i need one until i saw this little connector which actually provides a USB connection with iPad and we can view our images directly from the camera on a bigger screen while shooting. Trust me there is nothing better than being able to view quickly on a bigger screen what we are actually getting and if we need to make changes right on the spot and re-shoot the scene.
