These started out as normal items, little plates with chocolates on them. Couldn't make it look appetizing though so I went the other way.

Sweets for the sweet! Woefully behind on visiting the Flickrsphere but back in the glow of the internet and diving back into the pool of photos today! Vark or Varak, is super fine filigree foil sheet of pure metals, typically silver but sometimes gold, used to decorate sweets in Asia to make those look more appetizing. The use of gold and silver foils or leaf has a history that goes back hundreds of years in S. Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The purpose is luxury. By having the foil on foods, the person offering the food is showing that they can both afford to have you eat precious metals at their expense, and that you're a worthy-enough guest for them to do so. I don’t get it! But Pramud, great Varanasi photo guide, bought some for the kids so they could get their lifetime requirement of silver!

Some little known facts about jelly fish:
1. The largest recorded jellyfish had tentacles over 120ft long!
The largest jellyfish known to man is the Lions Mane jellyfish. It has an average bell diameter of around 50cm but the largest specimens can be as big as 6ft in diameter with tentacles 100ft or more in length! The largest Lions Mane jellyfish recorded was found in Massachusetts. It had a bell diameter of 2.3m and its tentacles were 37m (121.4ft) long!
2. Jellyfish have no brain!
They also have no heart, bones or blood and are around 95% water! So how do they function without a brain or central nervous system? They have a basic set of nerves at the base of their tentacles which can detect touch, temperature, salinity etc. Since they don’t have a brain, they depend on automatic reflexes in response to these stimuli! Catching prey is also a matter of chance. They don’t actively hunt down their food; they just wait for prey to come in contact with their tentacles.
3. There are around 2000 known species of jellyfish!
There are more than 2000 different types of jellyfish, with many more still waiting to be discovered. Only approximately 70 of these species have stings strong enough to harm humans. Jellyfish are found in every ocean of the world, including around the UK!
4. Jellyfish have been around for approximately 650 million years!
Jellyfish have no bones so fossils are hard to come by, but scientists have evidence that these creatures have been bobbing along in the world’s oceans for around 650 million years or even longer. That means they pre-date the dinosaurs by hundreds of millions of years!
5. Jellyfish are a popular snack for the Leatherback Turtle!
Leatherback Turtles are known to follow groups of jellyfish in order to get a tasty meal, often bringing them close to coastlines like the UK. These turtles aren’t the only species to find jellyfish appetizing; in some parts of the world humans also view jellyfish as a delicacy! The most common jellyfish chosen for this delicacy is the Cannonball jellyfish.
6. Jellyfish are not actually fish!
Jellyfish live mainly in the ocean but aren’t actually fish. They are plankton, and float in the water as they are carried by currents. They are members of the Cnidarian family, along with coral and anemones!
7. Jellyfish are taking over the oceans!
In recent years certain parts of the world have seen a problematic increase in jellyfish populations, called blooms. Scientists believe this is to do with additional nutrients in the water, climate change or fishing along the coastlines. Some researchers are concerned that the increased numbers of jellyfish could compete for food resources with fish and other marine animals, and eventually out-compete native local species. Jellyfish are one of the very few creatures that have been known to adapt to ocean dead zones, where there is little oxygen and lots of pollution.

A superb reflection of a downtown, Vancouver building looked especially enticing. The strong white structure and its reflection, against the perfectly, uninterrupted blue sky was appetizing. It had me thinking of how to top this banana split with a cherry. However, rather than putting it on top, the bottom of the image favoured this appealing thought.
My contribution to Macro Mondays' challenge, "smell", on 13 September 2021. Just love the appetizing aroma of fresh thyme. HMM!

Het melksap bevat eiwit, hars en taraxine.
De paardenbloem is bloedzuiverend, eetlustopwekkend, urineuitdrijvend en laxerend, bevat veel vitamine C en heeft een gunstige uitwerking op de spijsverteringsorganen, lever en nieren.
*Kruidengeneeskunde
De wortel in gedroogde vorm wordt wel tegen nier- en galkwalen gebruikt.
Afkooksel van de wortels, verse worteltinctuur of vers geperst wortelsap van de paardenbloem wordt gebruikt voor de behandeling van artritis.
De wortels en bladeren hebben door de aanwezige bitterstoffen een eetlustopwekkende werking.
De melk van de plant kan gebruikt worden tegen puistjes door ze rechtstreeks aan te brengen.
Het sap van de bloem zou helpen tegen wratten.
Van de bloemen kan een honingachtige siroop worden gekookt. Ook kan er jam mee worden gemaakt. In Engeland bestaat een traditionele frisdrank (dandelion and burdock) waaraan deze siroop is toegevoegd

The milk juice contains protein, resin and taraxin.
The dandelion is blood purifying, appetizing, diuretic and laxative, contains a lot of vitamin C and has a beneficial effect on the digestive organs, liver and kidneys.
*Herbal medicine
The root in dried form is used against kidney and gall ailments.
Decoction of the roots, fresh root tincture or freshly squeezed dandelion root juice is used to treat arthritis.
The roots and leaves have an appetizing effect due to the bitter substances present.
The milk of the plant can be used against pimples by applying it directly.
The juice of the flower is said to help against warts.
A honey-like syrup can be cooked from the flowers. Jam can also be made with it. In England there is a traditional soft drink (dandelion and burdock) to which this syrup has been added

It's mmm Monday and today I have some of my favorite soup to share. It is chicken tortilla soup and you can make it in the crock pot or pressure cooker, easy to make and so filling. I discovered a new place to shoot, the garage, but found my soup cooled off very quickly and didn't look appetizing after a few shots. I admire food photographers who do this regularly because this is work! Enjoy your day!
