Treecreepers almost appear to defy gravity, as they work their way up a tree trunk & along the undersides of branches. I find them fascinating little birds to watch. The Males are also coming into song at this time of year & I love to listen out for them in the small patch of woodland near my home.

This tiny Wren appeared on the top of the bird feeder outside my window and immediately started singing in a huge voice. It had only just fledged and perhaps had not yet learned all the secretive behaviour typical of a Wren, which is usually heard rather than seen.

It stayed all morning and then came back in the evening.

Perhaps this was its first song? Regardless, it made my day.

This photo shows it larger than life-size - for comparison, look at the screwhead in the feeder.

Young couple appeared to be returning into harbour at the close of day, but minutes later they made way after purchasing a case of beer. My guess is they lived or were staying close by, as small craft are not equipped to travel safely after dark.

Taken along the edge of Grimms Ditch that runs through Barnes's Grove, Buckinghamshire, I was taken by the implied forward motion of some of these trees as they appear to be moving along the top of the bank and as we move into a new year seemed an apt image to post.

The Al-Khazneh (building that appears in "Indiana Jones"), for example, is a work of century 1 a.C .: made like real mausoleum. Its façade, of Hellenistic inspiration, impresses by the dimensions: it is 43 meters of height by 30 of width. At the top of one of the mountains surrounding Petra is another work of art: the Ad-Deir, another mausoleum, but which was used in the 5th century AD as a Byzantine church. To visit it, you have to face 800 steps that lead to the top. Petra was a powerful city. The Nabataeans put her on the route of the caravans that crossed the Arabian peninsula towards the Mediterranean or the Red Sea. They have developed irrigation systems and built dams to store rainwater that falls from time to time into the desert. In its peak, the place had 30 thousand inhabitants.

Cats are everywhere in Morocco. They live harmoniously with humans, but rather than pets, they are neighbors. many of them are associated with a particular shop or business. People often feed them, but they do their part by keeping the neighborhood free of pests. They appear in a huge variety of colors and patterns, but there are more ginger, calico, and tortoiseshell cats here than in many other places where cats have the run of the place. In Islam, cats are appreciated and considered clean; they are welcome in homes, shops, and even mosques.

Let's face it now, it isn't everyday we see a genuine example of anti gravity anywhere let alone in agarden is it now? Yet here we have it along with the evidence, and not just any garden - it's in our garden! I know, it's incredible, but its not for sale so don't even go there.

The only other example I can think of is those UFO things that keep turning up on people's phones, but as folks don't believe in those, that makes this little baby unique does it not.

I'll tell you something else, it's totally silent, doesn't make a sound and you can pass your hands all around and underneath it like one of those stage magicians - it doesn't seem to mind. Nor, does it limit itself to any one flowerbed, oh no it moves with it's whims not just the sun, hot border in the morning, vegetable patch in the afternoon - it even followed me into the house one day!

A couple of days after taking this very photo, my wife and I had to pop to the garden centre (we were looking for something inter dimensional) and this little baby kept pace with us for an entire kilometre. It was only as we turned out of our road and my wife put the pedal to the metal that we thought we had lost it - I say 'thought' because when we pulled into the car park at the garden centre about 10 miles away there it was! I don't think anyone else saw it for it was hovering about 50 feet in the air directly over the compost bags, as it did so it slowly rotated and as the sun caught its petals it appeared to change colour - just like one of those bona fide UFOs that don't exist, and when we got home an hour later, there it was, sunning itself next to the garlic. I know, I know, it's incredible, but it isn't for sale so don't even go there....

Primula is a genus of mainly herbaceous flowering plants in the family Primulaceae. They include the familiar wildflower of banks and verges, the primrose (P. vulgaris). Other common species are P. auricula (auricula), P. veris (cowslip) and P. elatior (oxlip). These species and many others are valued for their ornamental flowers. They have been extensively cultivated and hybridised - in the case of the primrose, for many hundreds of years. Primula are native to the temperate northern hemisphere, south into tropical mountains in Ethiopia, Indonesia and New Guinea, and in temperate southern South America. Almost half of the known species are from the Himalayas. Primula has about 500 species in traditional treatments, and more if certain related genera are included within its circumscription. Primula is a complex and varied genus, with a range of habitats from alpine slopes to boggy meadows. Plants bloom mostly during the spring, with flowers often appearing in spherical umbels on stout stems arising from basal rosettes of leaves; their flowers can be purple, yellow, red, pink, blue, or white. Some species show a white mealy bloom (farina) on various parts of the plant. Many species are adapted to alpine climates. 4424

The peony among the Greeks

In their culture, the peony is much more than a pretty flower for sunny days, it is first and foremost considered a medicinal plant. This faculty also nourished a Greek myth, where anger of the gods and healing mingle. Its name, according to rumors, comes from the doctor Péon, disciple of Asclepius, god of medicine. The latter would have found a remedy for the pain of women during childbirth. His master, jealous of his talent, said to himself that in the end, he deserved to die this one. Fortunately for Peon and for us, Zeus proposed a less dramatic punishment and changed the young doctor into the flower he had discovered: a peony. Also famous for its bright colors, its shades and shades have also inspired a legend that continues to exist in our modern world, through the expression: “blush like a peony”.

The story here is about the nymph Péone, who like most naiads was incredibly beautiful. Courted by all the gods, she had the bad idea to do a little too much and break the divine code of modesty. A false step, provoking the indignation of the all-powerful, who then decided to change it into an extraordinary flower: a peony. As for its error of judgment, to inscribe it forever in history, they gave its petals the color of shame, red. Hence the term...

Peony in the Land of the Rising Sun

Asia is full of myths and legends, which teach us a little more about our favorite flower. The first, partly tells why spring is the favorite season for peonies. In China during the Tang Dynasty, on a very cold winter day, Empress Wu Zetian after drinking a little too much wine, demanded flowers from her garden to bloom during the night, to satisfy her in the early morning. . The flower calendar was apparently the least of his worries...

Her name meaning "she who disciplines the sky", the latter was convinced that no flowering variety would dare to disobey her. The next day, only the peony had decided to do as it pleased and to wait for spring. The queen of the season then appears for the first time, like a flower with a strong character. Mad with rage, the Empress exiled all the peonies in the country to Luoyang, where they finally blossomed proudly, giving rise to a marvelous flowery spectacle. The city has since been the capital of the peony, and organizes a festival dedicated to it every year.

I planted several milkweed bushes a couple of weeks ago to help Monarchs on their migration. To my delight, I've seen several stopping by. This one was shy, and every time I approached, he retreated. He appeared to watch me from a tree, waiting for me to leave him in peace. So I did.....

Widespread hummingbird, but often overlooked. Appears mostly green with a solidly dark blue tail. If seen in good light, note reddish base of bill and (for male) strong bluish sheen on throat and breast. Female identifiable by extensive green spotting below. Occurs in a variety of habitats including river edges, abandoned plantations and second growth, and patches of savanna woodland. Feeds on nectar and defends patches of flowers from other hummingbirds. Male is similar to male Blue-tailed Emerald but is larger, lacks forked tail and has bluish cast on underparts. Female is somewhat similar to Glittering-throated Emerald but has uniformly spotted breast.

Catnip can be quite invasive. It appears in all kinds of places in the garden (even in winter), to the delight of the cats and the annoyance of the gardener. Sethi immediately discovered this new one, growing on the garden path. Sorry Sethi, but this catnip plant will have to go !

Of the three Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe's at the 74th Members Meeting, two appeared to be new/newly restored examples, this one shown here in the grey finish, and another running in a bare metal condition.

Both, by the end of the weekend, appeared to be suffering some chicane damage, having brushed the wall a little too closely and creating some slight front end scrapes and creases to show for it.

It does show how close to the edge these drivers are when racing, and how every millimetre advantage is used.

This shot was taken at the run in to the start-finish chicane, somewhere that you don't get access to during the Goodwood Revival, so it was nice to try a little bit of panning from here, and to be doing so in a left to right direction for a change.

I've no history on this car, some may come to light over the coming weeks but for now I'll leave it at that.

Everything appeared to be calm and peaceful, but above us a storm was brewing. You could hear the thunder and see the lightning flash. This was definitely a time where I was thankful to be deep in the woods sheltered by a canopy of trees. About two seconds after I finished this shot it began to rain, and not just a little bit, but a lot! By the time we made it bak to our car we were drenched through and our equipment bags were soaked as well. Thankfully the shot still paid off, but it was not easy. Yet the moment of stillness right before the storm hit was so peaceful. It can honestly be difficult to sit and just be when there is a storm raging around you or one that is eminent. In Psalm 46:10 it says this, "Be Still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." The reason that we are able to be still is because God is in total control. He sits on the throne and because He does we can sit and just be, we can rest, and we are safe in His presence.

September 3pm hour. A mesmerizing treasure trove of golden sunshine sparkles appeared in the water as I was walking around Ventura Harbor. Then in the fresh ocean breeze, along came a stand-up paddleboarder, unencumbered and uncluttered. After swirling through the sparkles like a lightweight nomad, he turns and looks back. I wonder if he saw the same thing I did. Anyway, it looks like he was freely enjoying the afternoon and I hope he goes home happy.

To be here was such a treat. I wanted a picture with boats for my 'Hours' picture because I was born in September in the 3pm hour on what is now 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day', so it worked out well. Arrr, Matey!

September is so lovely and it will transition into Fall before we know it. As Summer fades, it leaves its door open just a little...
