Looking north from the Appalachian Trail station towards Wassaic NY. Rail service continues about 17 miles further, terminating at Wassaic. It is 65 miles from here to Grand Central Terminal in NYC. This line was originally the New York Central's Chatham Branch. Metro North's Harlem Line

Maryland Park Service crews clear old and dying trees left behind from winter along the Appalachian trail.
Hikers on Appalachian Trail - I visited with these two hikers along the Appalachian trail, where it crosses from NH to Maine. They had started at Springer Mountain, Ga (Southern end) in April and were hoping to finish by Early October. The lady in the rear was in her mid 70’s, and and this was her second time to hike the entire trail, this time in one season. Let’s here a big ATTA GIRL!

These are the lyrics for my song, "Appalachian Nights," that I wrote one lovely summer evening while out jogging as the sun was slowly setting here in the Appalachian Mountains. It was performed widely and recorded some years ago by a local folk group who included it in their album which they titled "Appalachian Nights" after my song.
