Anytime you go to the Salton Sea, you HAVE to take a photo of a Burrowing Owl. If you don't, they might not let you go back. This one was sitting on the sign warning of its burrow nearby! Imperial County, CA.

Mokoroa Falls

New Zealand

This beautiful waterfall was one that we visited in the late afternoon while based in auckland. There was another great fall to the right of this but a land slip unfortunately meant that it was plastered in orange tape and markers making a planned pano here not possible. Despite the season being spring, there were still many yellow leaves around which gave it an autumn feel!

I'm still having a hard time coming to grips with the CPKC merger as so many things that seemed unusual and intriguing become the norm, while the memories of what was and what were start to feel simpler and better. It was necessary for both railroads to remain competitive, even after the merger the combined entity is still the smallest Class I. For me though, the CPR will always be the historic railway that built this country, proudly adorning the symbolic red and the beaver in one form or another. While I doubt this north country switch key at Pog is going anywhere anytime soon (I'd bet its been here forever and a day already), I'll document it before it too disappears and enjoy the nostalgia in the meantime.

Playing about with new Fujifilm X-T3 but subject seems appropriate for time of the year and events we are going through at present.

A panorama of a garden that I had the pleasure of being in yesterday...a true Garden of Eden...a continuing work in progress and a labour of love!

Anytime I do something crazy like get my fingers covered in wax, pour paint on myself, tape my camera to my tripod because I can't find my tripod head, slam myself on the ground or sit on huge stuffed animal and yell like a psycho where people can see me... I realize how much I love what I do.

Photography is such a beautiful thing to me & honestly it's what I love the most. It's such a burning passion & I'm willing to do anything to make a good photograph. I carry my camera to every single place. REALLY I DO. I sit in my classes all day throughout school & my camera is snugged with me on my desk. I love my camera, I feel empty without it. Anytime I'm feeling down, I can always turn to photography. I dream about someday working for awesome magazines & having huge sets with assistants and pretty dresses and I feel all these butterflies in my stomach. I really hope things work out for me... I feel like they will. I feel like no matter what happens, I'll be in a great spot... just because I'm willing to fight like hell for my dreams and never give up. I feel like in the end it will work out.

I feel spellbound ♥

Grey seals come to shore at various sites across the UK coastline, in seal terms these are known as haul out sites. Anytime between September and November, female grey seals will haul out in preparation for the breeding season. A female will normally have just one pup which will stay with its mother for around three weeks. As the pup does not have an insulating layer of blubber yet, it is born in a fluffy white fur known as lanugo. This keeps the pup nice and warm whilst learning from its mum during its first few weeks of life. It will normally shed the fur between 27-29 days after birth when they then moult into an adult pelage, or what we’d more commonly refer to as a coat.

Anytime a toad hops into my path, then patiently waits for me to take a dozen photos, it must be a good day.

I'm not going outside anytime soon.

Low res and noisy version of my next 'scene'. About time I shared it, even though there is some way to go. Trying to get a bit more 'realistic' while still keeping the painterly feel.

Wanted some low cloud which I think works on Great Gable, less so on Yewbarrow. Sort of gets smeared out when making it like a painting.

Sooner or later there will be some panning involved. It's a great spot for that!

...is a good time to pray.

Secret #21- Jace has started praying recently. He's starting to really understand what it's about, and I have to say, it's one of the most beautiful things to watch such an innocent human being talking to God. There's nothing sweeter.

LUND’S TOWER (KNOWN LOCALLY AS SUTTON PINNACLE) SITS ON TOP OF EARL CRAG AT 1175 FEET WHICH OVER LOOKS THE AIREDALE VALLEY AND THE BEAUTIFUL MARKET TOWN OF SUTTON-IN-CRAVEN IN YORKSHIRE.

IT SEEMS THAT AWEALTHY YORKSHIREMAN HAD A FETISH ABOUT BUILDING MONUMENTS HIGH ON SURROUNDING HILLS.

THE CASTELLATED TOWER HAS A NARROW SPIRAL STAIR CASE ALLOWING ACCESS TO THE TOP OF THE TOWER, WHICH IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ACCESS ANYTIME OF THE DAY.

THE HISTORY OF WHY IT WAS BUILT IS VAGUE BUT ONE THEORY IS THAT IT WAS ERECTED BY JAMES LUND OF MALSIS HALL AS AN EYE CATCHER AND PROBABLY FOR HIS DAUGHTER ETHEL, AN ALTERNATIVE THEORY IS THAT IT WAS BUILT IN 1897 TO MARK QUEEN VICTORIA'S DIAMOND JUBILEE.

Inglis Falls

Known as “the best waterfalls in the area” is the most visited, anytime of year! One of three waterfalls that surround the City of Owen Sound, Inglis Falls is the best known and most visited. Situated in the heart of the 200-hectare Inglis Falls Conservation Area, Inglis Falls is an 18 metre high cascade, created by the Sydenham River meeting the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The erosive power of the water has carved a deep gorge at the base of the falls. On a clear day you can see down the valley into the City of Owen Sound and out to the Owen Sound harbour.

There is something for everybody; a viewing platform for those unable to see over the stone wall, 7.42 km of trails of various difficulty, access to the Bruce Trail, more than 20 species of ferns, bird watching opportunities, a series of geological potholes, historical remains of a grist mill, washrooms, picnic facilities and visitor information centre.

Historical Information

Inglis Falls is rich in history – starting in 1843 when Peter Inglis immigrated to Canada and settled in this area. In 1845 Inglis purchased a small existing grist mill built two years previously by a Mr. Boyd, and 300 acres of deeded Crown land. It was in 1862 that Inglis replaced the old gristmill with a new four-storey mill that produced flour, bran and shorts (feed for animals).

Other ventures of Inglis’ included building a sawmill a quarter of a mile downstream of the falls. Peter Inglis also built a woollen mill on the eastside of the river on the brink of the falls. Here were manufactured tweeds, flannels and “rainbow” blankets, so called because of the three coloured stripes at each end. The woollen mill was destroyed by fire around 1885 and rebuilt only to burn down again in 1901.

Management of the mill was passed on to Inglis’ oldest son, William A., in 1886. William’s son, Victor, managed the mill until 1932. Eighty-seven years of steady operation under the Inglis family name is an amazing record which very few industries in this area of the province can surpass or equal.

In 1932, the property was obtained by the City of Owen Sound for water rights. The mill was idle for two years, until purchased by Emil Henkel. He ran the mill until 1945 when a fire completely destroyed it.

In 1960 the former North Grey Region Conservation Authority (now the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority) acquired what is presently the Inglis Falls Conservation Area. Today all that remains of that earlier industrial scene are the family home, a stone building, the silent millstones and the enduring beauty of Inglis Falls.
