He never stops, and he never stops smiling :)

College Street Jazz Festival is brand new in 2023 and started the music festival season in Toronto. Opening day featured some fresh new talent from several colleges and universities in the city. I am always happy to attend and see new faces in the jazz scene. There were some established artists I have seen later that weekend like Laila Biali, Alison Young or Queen Pepper, but I may have seen a future Louis Armstrong or Diana Krall on this evening. Yansi Alexavier plays the trumpet, while Mylz Powell and Rob Carruthers are waiting for their turn.

It's never a problem finding somewhere to eat in Thailand. A common expression is, "Kin khang thanon" which literally means 'eat beside the road'. The street food is just as good as and in many cases better than any restaurant.
The weather was changeable anytime in a raining afternoon, after this shooting, those huge sculptures on the top of Mount Rushmore, were disappeared and covered by the flying clouds shortly.

"Chikanlou is built by the Dutch in 1653. It was originally called Provintia. In Dutch it means eternity. The Chinese called the building "Chikanlou", "Fanzailou" or "Honmaolou". Although Chikanlou has gone through Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and the Japanese Colonization Period, it basically still maintains its original look.
Chikanlou has been an administration center from the Dutch's occupation period. In 1661 when the Chinese general, Cheng Chengkung, repelled the Dutch. is among the most important historic sites in Tainan City as well as all of Taiwan. It is also one of the prettiest. Two ornate stone and wood towers sit amongst the grounds of lovely gardens that include a koi fish pond and several statues. This includes nine stone turtles carrying large steles on their backs. The site is lovely anytime of day, but it is particularly impressive at dusk when the lights of the towers and garden are just coming into effect. On some evenings, small musical concerts grace the front lawn. turtle statues Nine turtle statues line the back of a fish pond. The Chinese style towers are built on top of an old Dutch fort called Provintia. You can still see some of the original brick foundations of this fort in certain areas of the site. It would seem hard to believe now, but at the time of the Dutch, Fort Provintia was oceanfront property. The land to the northwest of Chikan Lou has been transformed due to natural silting and man-made landfill. When the hero of Taiwan, Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga), landed his army to take Taiwan from the Dutch, he used his ships to cut off the waters between Fort Provintia and Fort Zeelandia in Anping – a thought that seems impossible given the structure of modern Tainan, Taiwan."
Note: I miss my hometown so badly. This was where I grew up with, my parents house was only a block away and my elementary school was right next to it...I had so much fond memories of this historical place 😪

There are two things you instantly notice when you exit your car in the Provence. The intense
smell of this landscape and the insistently chirping of the cicada. You hear them almost everywhere and anytime during the day.

Sri Lankan axis deer are active primarily during early morning and again during the evening, but they are commonly observed near waterholes anytime. The Sri Lankan axis deer eats primarily grasses, but it also eats fallen fruits and leaves. The Sri Lankan axis deer graze closely with langur, peacock, wild buffalo, and sambar deer. They usually lives in groups of between 10-60 animals, though herds may include up to 100 animals.
Axis deer are important prey for the Sri Lankan leopard. It is also prey for sloth bears and jackals.

I am always happy to see the little finches anytime, but this day we had the European gold and also the green finches paying a visit to the lakeside. It was the first time I had seen them side by side and I was interested to see the green ones being a little bigger! Here, the green one was further up and out of shot, but the reflection of it appeared on the same apparent level.
So I ordered French toast during the Renaissance :-)

Anytime you are within a couple of miles of the Shard you stand a good chance of looking up and unexpectedly seeing that icon of the London skyline staring you in the face. So it was on this occasion. I was sat on these steps minding my own business when I turned to the side and yes, there it was again, that pointy building dominating the scene. It is uncanny really how often that happens. So I liked what I saw and got this.

This one got away, despite the Coyote's best effort to turn it into a snack. Actually, grasshoppers seem to be the main course these days, and this will likely hold true until they are wiped out by a hard frost. So far no snow is in the forecast, but winter can hit anytime.
In years past - in other locations - I usually found November to be dreary with rain and wind; not so here on the prairie. The transition period - from sometime in October until about mid-December - is a great time to photograph the resident mammals. The Mule Deer rut is not far off. Ice will begin to form on the river. The first snowfalls are a novelty. By mid-January the novelty will have worn off and we'll all be in survival mode. Just like the Coyotes.

This places never ceases to amaze me! I love the trickle of water, the rocks and the twisted trees, a particular favourite location for many photgraphers in the Autmn months, but for me, I love it anytime of the year.
It was April 8, 2021, and I was standing in a field somewhere just east of unincorporated Paradise, Montana with my heart in my throat. Anytime you plan a big train trip, there's always the few photos you know you really want- the must have list. For me, chasing the day gas and getting this shot along the river was a Top-5 must have, and the top of the list for MRL. As we arrived in Paradise in the morning, the weather wasn't great. Gloomy, cloudy, overcast just kind of BLEH weather, especially for blue locomotives. But if you don't play, you'll never win, and we waited patiently for the day gas to arrive. As they blasted off up the 10th sub, so did we, with the weather just getting better. As we rolled up to this spot, and saw the light, neither photographer said anything to the other- I wasn't going to be the jinx. As they rolled around the corner and into the sunlight, I was totally dialed in, and walked away yelling in excitement as the train went by. I don't do favorites, but if I had to choose for 2021, this is for sure a top-5 grab for me. Happy New Year to you all, and may 2022 bring many more amazing adventures.

I really enjoy shooting with the older cameras. From an artistic point of view , they had a look, difference than today's cameras. I think the Nikon D850 & 750 are representative of what I am talking about and while the Z series of cameras are fantastic, I believe the older DSLR's will be missed when they'r finally gone. Don't forget the Nikon D7000 series also!
