History

At first, the Bergse Diep was a shallow but extended body of water, with high tides but also a predominance of fresh water. The deposits of the rivers caused the waters to become only submerged at high tides. From that moment on the area was called Bergse Veld and later on the Biesbosch. A network of interconnecting creeks, mudflats and forested areas arose, which served as a sort of inland delta of the large rivers feeding it. A significant result of this was that the former estuary arms of the Rhine and Meuse, further north-west, were devoid of much of the inflow of fresh water. This caused the rivers to fill with deposits, so the important shipping route between Rotterdam and the inland areas was no longer usable.

Biesbosch near Dordrecht.During the last centuries, conditions changed significantly. Most of the Biesbosch was reclaimed and turned into polders. The Rhine-Meuse connection with Rotterdam was restored by preventing the build-up of deposits by artificial means. Most of the Biesbosch creeks were closed off at their upstream end to lower the risk of flooding. The confluence of the Meuse and Rhine rivers was closed off as well and the Meuse received a new, artificial mouth: the Bergse Maas. By separating rivers Meuse and Rhine before they reach the Biesbosch, their flow can be controlled better. A second ship canal was created to better distribute the flow of the river Rhine as well: the Nieuwe Merwede, which divides the Biesbosch into two parts: the "lesser" Biesbosch, now the southeastern part of the Island of Dordrecht, and the "greater" Biesbosch. As a result of these hydrological changes, the Biesbosch lost its function as a river delta and now only receives water directly from the rivers in times of high discharges.

Before 1970 a connection with the sea existed, and the tidal differences were, on average, two meters. Despite the diminished inflow of the Meuse and Waal rivers, fresh water continued to dominate. The tidal differences almost disappeared after 1970 when the Delta Works closed the Haringvliet and with it the Biesbosch's direct connection with the sea. Only in the northern part of the Biesbosch (the so called Sliedrechtse Biesbosch) some of the tidal difference remained (20-80 cm on average). The diminishing of the tidal difference caused a dramatic transformation of the Biesbosch, which mostly changed into a willow forest with small remnants of the once mighty delta streams. The creation of the Haringvlietdam also blocked the main route for migrating fish. The influence of both rivers and sea had now mostly gone.

I can spent a long time staring to this landscape of Anton Pieck in the walk thru attraction Diorama what opened next to the Carrouselpaleis in De Efteling.

Diorama

The Diorama is a romantic miniature world in the Marerijk, located in a darkened hall at the back of the Carrousel Palace. Anton Pieck designed this highly detailed three-dimensional world with mountain landscapes, villages, lakes and train tracks, which was opened in 1971 in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Efteling.

The hall of 225 m² in area offers a number of seating areas in the form of old-fashioned train compartments. The space is also used for events and exhibitions. Music box music plays in the hall.

Behind a sixty-metre-long glass wall with balustrade, with thirty-two panes in frames, a contiguous series of scenes has been erected against a mountain slope around a central, elongated core of painted cloudy skies. In the darkened Diorama Hall, visitors can walk around the entire miniature landscape behind glass, which is centrally located in the hall.

Amsterdammer's love for the word gezellig meaning: similar to cosy but used in a broader sense, is seen no more fittingly than over the holiday period, when the city's village charm shines in fairy lights, snugs up in warm cafes and bars and brims with silly season spirit. It's a pity the canals are not yet frozen this year. But Ice Skating is possible throughout the city. You can skate and glide around the Jaap Edenbaan or head to the smaller rinks at Museumplein and Leidseplein. And then warm up with a hot meal and a drink at one of the nearby cafes. Pink Christmas comes to town till 31 December 2012 featuring theatre, shows, ice skating events, the Drag Queen Winter Olympics, club nights and a whole lot more. This year the Amsterdam Light Festival puts the beautiful city centre and its canals in the limelight. The festival features the Illuminade evening walking route, the Boulevard of Light along the Amstel River, the Socialight programme and of course, the spectacular Christmas Canal Parade. But even without light parade the canals remain always a pretty sight.

Gezellig. The word gezellig encompasses Dutch culture. It goes beyond its literal translation of ‘cosy, quaint or comfortable’, and can also be used to describe having coffee with a friend, reading a good book or spending time with family. Though Amsterdam is not a particularly snowy city, it does tend to snow for a few weeks in the winter. During this time, you might fall off of your bike and public transport might stop running but hey, Amsterdam sure does look gezellig. So bundle up, go outside and play in the snow! Need a place to play? Visit the canals at the Jordaan, it's looks gorgeous in the snow. Walk around the Jordaan district in the evening and you’ll probably to notice something missing: curtains! The Dutch are masters of cosy interior design and have no problem showing off their work of art. Want to make your home gezellig? Buy loads of candles, plants, funky light fixtures and adopt a few pets. For nice interior design boutiques, check out the Negen straatjes - Nine Streets district. It is the first time in four years time that the Netherlands received so much snowfall. According to the National weather center KNMI. In some parts of the north of Holland lies between 7 to 9 inches of snow. The last time this occurred was in 2005. Normally the Netherlands get no more than between 3 and 5 inches of snow. It does occasionally snow in Amsterdam in December, but that almost always means just a light dusting. If you think the city is attractive in dry weather, just wait until you wake up one morning to see it covered in a thin coat of fresh snow. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough.

This weekend we walk around the canals and made some photos of the snow in of our neighborhood. We went shopping downtown for Christmas. When it snows it’s light dusting and really beautiful. The steep bridges over the canals in Amsterdam are really slippery. ...especially for cars. The best way to travel in the snow is by bicycle, tram, walking or better by sleds. Last night extreme temperature of -9 degrees Celsius. This is rare since the winter has not yet started. The heavy snowfall is too bad for ice skating. Photo taken here at Bloemgracht in Amsterdam. Koning Winter tast diep in de buidel. Woensdag 15 december 2010 was het al snijdend koud met extreem lage temperaturen en veel wind. Nu is de wind omgewisseld voor sneeuwval bij nog steeds ver onder normale waarden op de thermometers. Het levert ons van alles op. Overlast, maar zeker ook winterpret en prachtige plaatjes. Een record is het niet, maar met de komst van sneeuw aan het einde van november, valt de winter vroeg. Heel Nederland werd afgelopen week getrakteerd op een dik pak sneeuw. Dit leverde voor het verkeer de nodige overlast op, maar er was ook veel plezier zoals hier in Amsterdam. De sneeuw zorgde zoals gebruikelijk ook voor gezellige taferelen. Zo lang als ik me kan heugen word ik blij van sneeuw. Kinderen in de Jordaan grepen de kans met beide handen aan en gingen sleetje rijden. In de stad reden auto's stapvoets. Op sommige plekken kwamen automobilisten zelfs helemaal niet meer vooruit. Het vliegverkeer op Schiphol wordt ernstig gehinderd door sneeuwval. Volgens de luchtverkeersleiding was er slechts één baan beschikbaar. Nee, we zijn het niet meer gewend? We zijn de afgelopen 10 jaar misschien gewoon sufgeluld door klimaat terroristen die ons voorgespiegeld hebben dat er nooit meer winters zullen komen en ook nog eens dat dat allemaal onze eigen schuld is ook nog. En nu één klein beetje zonne-inactiviteit en húp het is ineens gewoon weer winter...

The Jordaan is a district of the city of Amsterdam in The Netherlands. The Anne Frank House, where Anne Frank went into hiding during World War II, is located on the edge of the Jordaan, on the Prinsengracht canal. Rembrandt spent the last years of his life in the Jordaan, on the Rozengracht canal. He was buried in the Westerkerk church, at the corner of Rozengracht and Prinsengracht, just beyond the Jordaan. The most common theory on the origin of the name is as a derivation of the French word jardin, meaning garden. Most streets and canals in the Jordaan are named after trees and flowers. Built in the first half of the 17th century to house the working class, the Jordaan is now one of the most expensive, upscale locations in the Netherlands. Believe it or not: many Dutch people don’t mind the winter in Amsterdam. Probably because the city is built for it! Ever heard of the Dutch word gezellig? A real translation doesn’t exist, but the English word cozy comes pretty close. In the Netherlands we put a lot of effort in making a place look and feel gezellig. A lot of cafés in Amsterdam use wood and warm colours for the interior combined with dim light, sometimes comfy couches and nice little corners. Since the houses are very old, it’s exceptional to get a license for a fireplace. Some places have one though. Just because nothing beats a glass of red wine in front of the fire after a whole snowy day of strolling around in Amsterdam !

Today it snows and it's -2 degrees Celsius. The heavy snowfall is bad for ice skating. So I had walk around the canals of my neighborhood. Photo taken here at the Brouwers- gracht in Amsterdam. More snow expected these coming days. Dutch houses in the Jordaan are relatively small and have prominent front doors and large windows. Many Dutch people do not close their curtains at night. According the old Calvinists there was a rule that good people should not have window coverings. They had another rule: do not look into other people’s windows. Well, of course. In Amsterdam zijn vandaag grote hoeveelheden aan sneeuw gevallen. Metingen van 15 tot 25 centimeter. Het is weer wit en glad in heel Nederland. Op sommige plaatsen viel meer dan 10 centimeter sneeuw in een uur! Zware sneeuwval zorgt voor grote chaos op de weg. Van m'n werk naar huis met de auto deed ik er maar liefst 2:20 uur over terwijl ik er normaal maar 20 minuten over doe! Volgens de ANWB is er in de Randstad sprake van dramatische toestanden. Ook de verschillende vervoersbedrijven hebben last van de sneeuw. Zo heeft het GVB in Amsterdam alle bussen per direct van de weg gehaald. Schiphol heeft eveneens veel last van de sneeuwval. Bijna alle vluchten binnen Europa hebben vertraging of zijn geannuleerd. De Alarmcentrale beleeft vrijdag topdrukte door ongevallen op de Nederlandse wegen, veroorzaakt door de sneeuwval. Tot half acht vrijdagavond kwamen er 960 meldingen binnen van aanrijdingen. Naast de overlast die de sneeuw en gladheid gaf, zorgt het ook voor mooie plaatjes in de Amsterdamse binnenstad en veel plezier bij de kinderen. Het KNMI heeft vanavond om 21.00 uur het weeralarm beëindigd. ,,Maar daarmee zijn de problemen nog lang niet voorbij. De waarschuwing voor sneeuwbuien en gladheid blijft van kracht''. De Jordaan is bedolven onder dik pak sneeuw zoals hierboven op de Brouwersgracht. Het beste advies is dan maar om lekker binnen te blijven en de kachel iets hoger te zetten. Of natuurlijk even naar buiten te gaan om wat mooie plaatjes te schieten.

The Netherlands is a small country of 16 million people, but it boasts a quarter of a million competitive speedskaters, and millions more who skate for fun. What's the story? Natural ice in the Netherlands is a rare occurrence. In fact, some winters there's no natural ice at all. Maybe that explains why the Dutch love to skate outdoors. They hardly ever get the chance! But when a cold wave hits, and the interconnected maze of canals, rivers and lakes freeze over, it's a spontaneous celebration, a national holiday. Today same as last year we could ice skating on the Gouwsea. Ice skating can be done from Monnickendam to Marken and from Marken to Volendam. Infinite sea of ice is perfect for ice skating journeys. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea.

Photo taken of Ice yachting on the Gouwsea at Monnickendam. A get together of ice sailors at Marken. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Crossing this Gouwzee was last possible in 2009 and 1996. Today 13 February 2010, I skate from Monnickendam - Marken - Volendam and back to Monnickendam a round-trip of 16km, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. For the ice-yacht sailors it's always a race who will cross the Gouwsea first to Marken. When the first Ice-boats tested and crossed the Gouwsea the skaters will follow soon.

Op 13 februari 2010 een schaatstocht gemaakt rond de Gouwzee van Monnickendam - Volendam - Marken - Monnickendam. Een prachtige ronde van zo'n 16km met top ijs. Tot mijn verbazing was de Gouwzee helemaal dichtbevroren, dit is laatst in 2009 en 1996 gebeurd. Dus alweer een historische ijstocht gemaakt. Een groot ijsoppervlakte tussen Monnickendam en Marken met prima ijs. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2010. Het was genieten. Jong en oud staan op het ijs, zelfs koek en zopie is present in de haven van Monnickendam, Marken en Volendam. Ook zijn er weer ijszeilers te zien. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen ze over bevroren meren en plassen: ijszeilers hebben deze dagen de tijd van hun leven. In elke ijszeiler schuilt een pionier die nieuw terrein wil ontginnen. Wie steekt er als eerste over naar Marken? Wakduikers heten de onfortuinlijken die in een overmoedige bui te ver gingen en met behulp van collega's uit het wak gehaald moesten worden. Het mag de pret niet drukken. IJszeilen is een gezamenlijke gekte, een collectieve spanning die vanwege de natuurlijke elementen zo bijzonder is. Op pure windkracht zeilen over de eindeloze ijsvlakte, geruisloos en snoeihard. De ijszeilers steken altijd het eerst de Gouwzee over. Is het veilig dan kunnen de schaatsers makkelijk volgen.

The autumn of 2023 and therefore also the Winter Efteling in December will mainly be without sun, but with a lot of rain and gray, dreary and gloomy days. The atmosphere on Anton Pieckplein will become even more beautiful. A not busy day in December, a week before the schools go on Christmas holidays.

Anton Pieckplein is an Old Dutch village square located in the northeast corner of Marerijk, between restaurant Het Witte Paard and the Reizenrijk. Around the square are Pieck buildings with catering outlets and shops. On the square we find all kinds of fairground mills, two Holle Bolle Gijzen, the Efteling Museum and some suppliers of surprise eggs.

The square is named after founder Anton Pieck.

Volgens de luchtverkeersleiding was er slechts één baan beschikbaar. Nee, we zijn het niet meer gewend? We zijn de afgelopen 10 jaar misschien gewoon sufgeluld door klimaat terroristen die ons voorgespiegeld hebben dat er nooit meer winters zullen komen en ook nog eens dat dat allemaal onze eigen schuld is ook nog. Vroeger werd het wonen op een woonboot vooral gezien als noodoplossing bij gebrek aan een beter alternatief. Wonen op een woonboot was goedkoper en daardoor geschikt voor de minder kapitaalkrachtige mensen. Er is echter veel veranderd in de laatste decennia. Woonboten worden veel beter onderhouden of zelfs vervangen door luxere exemplaren, met isolatieglas, centrale verwarming, luxe keuken, luxe badkamer en soms ook nog een tuin met een schuurtje erbij. De meeste woonboter's willen hun boot ook niet meer kwijt. De boten zijn meestal klein maar wel gezellig zoals hierboven met een kerstboom tijdens de kerstdagen. Een witte kerst komt eraan. This holiday season there's no shortage of festive events going on in Amsterdam. Christmas shows, markets, winter festivals, ice skating, even the circus has come to town. Get amongst the wintry fun. Amsterdammer's love for the word gezellig meaning: similar to cosy but used in a broader sense, is seen no more fittingly than over the holiday period, when the city's village charm shines in fairy lights, snugs up in warm cafes and bars and brims with silly season spirit. It's a pity the canals are not yet frozen this year. But Ice Skating is possible throughout the city. You can skate and glide around the Jaap Edenbaan or head to the smaller rinks at Museumplein and Leidseplein. And then warm up with a hot meal and a drink at one of the nearby cafes. Pink Christmas comes to town till 31 December 2012 featuring theatre, shows, ice skating events, the Drag Queen Winter Olympics, club nights and a whole lot more.

De feestmaand december staat in het teken van heuse kerstactiviteiten in Amsterdam. Trek je schaatsen aan, doe je tegoed aan glühwein en braadworst. Dit jaar kunnen we helaas niet op de grachten schaatsen. Echte schaatsliefhebbers komen aan hun trekken op de Jaap Edenbaan. Als je een klein beetje ijspret wilt combineren met een gezellig diner of afzakkertje in de stad, kun je ook terecht op de kleine ijsbanen op het Museum- en Leidseplein. Hoewel het nog niet echt koud is geweest is de gezelligheid in Amsterdam op vrijwel elke hoek van de straat te vinden. Artis is tijdens de kerstvakantie elke dag tot 20.00 uur open. Er is een apart lichtpad ontworpen, de dierentuin is feestelijk verlicht en je kunt je tegoed doen aan stamppot, oliebollen en glühwein. The Paradiso Orchestra en hun muzikale gasten zorgen op tweede kerstdag voor een bonte middag in de grote zaal van Paradiso. Alle traditionele ingrediënten zoals glühwein, muziek en een verrassend kerstverhaal maken het kerstuitje compleet!

Doornroosje (Sleeping Beauty) about one week after the renovation was completed. More light by removing trees that were far too large. New landscaping as well and the formerly not visible side of the castle is now visible due to the construction of second path around the castle. This was the way down from the castle towards Kabouterdorp (Gnome Village) which used to be located fully in the shade. Two new promissed aditions to the castle have not yet been installed right after the opening and the location should be here.

Doornroosje

Doornroosje is the first fairytale in the route of the fairytale forest is also one of the oldest fairy tales in the history of De Efteling.

It is also one of the first ten fairytales at the opening in 1952, designed by Anton Pieck, although the current scene dates from 1981 and has some adjustments from Ton van de Ven. It is depicted with a castle on a hill, where visitors can climb up a staircase to look through windows through the bedroom where Doornroosje rests and the angry fairy sits on the spinning wheel. The chefs sleep in the kitchen.

There are several gnome houses in the Fairytale Forest. Beautiful large mushrooms, designed by the designers Anton Pieck, Ton van de Ven and Henny Knoet and built between 1952 and 1980. They blend naturally into the surrounding park. The many paths and corridors around and in the mushrooms are a favorite with children who are looking for even more (moving) gnomes.

The music that a gnome plays on his spinet somewhere can be heard in many places. He plays Menuet in G major (Per Jocum. Opus II, Latin: "Just for fun, second work"), which is a well-known tune for many visitors.

Heavy snowfall hits Amsterdam. Winter arrived in the Netherlands. It snowed continuously in Amsterdam for over 3 hours and other parts of the country. It was sticky snow so lots of snowmen and beautiful trees coated in snow! The children and adults were all out playing in the snow most of the afternoon and the street. Besides the joy there was irritation. The whole ring highway of 32km were totally jammed during rush hour. All cars were driving slowly step by step. Most cars don't even have winter tires here. Schiphol airport closed all except 1 runway and many planes were cancelled. Some people hoped that the snow and chill would permit the Elfstedentocht the famous Eleven Cities, 125-mile ice-skating canal race, the weather must remain cold long enough. We'll have to see about that. The Weather hasn't permitted that to happen in many years. Tomorrow extreme low temperature of -15 degrees Celsius is expected.

Het KNMI gaf woensdag 6 januari 2010 begin van de middag een weerswaarschuwing af voor extreem weer in Noord-Holland en Zuid-Holland maar vreemd genoeg geen alarm. In korte tijd viel er 10 tot 15 centimeter sneeuw. In combinatie met de avondspits was daar geen sneeuwschuiver of strooiwagen tegen opgewassen. Door de hevigheid was ook nog sprake van verminderd zicht zodat er erg langzaam werd gereden op de rijkswegen. Heel Nederland werd afgelopen week getrakteerd op een dik pak sneeuw. Dit leverde voor het verkeer de nodige overlast op, maar er was ook veel plezier zoals hier in Amsterdam. Kinderen inde Jordaan grepen de kans met beide handen aan en gingen sleetje rijden. In en rond de hele stad stonden woensdag lange files door zware sneeuwval. Ook het openbaar vervoer ondervond zware hinder. De hele ringweg Amsterdam stond vasy met een file waarvan de langste 32 kilometer was. In de stad reden auto's stapvoets. Op sommige plekken kwamen automobilisten zelfs helemaal niet meer vooruit. It is the first time in four years time that the Netherlands received so much snowfall. According to the National weather center KNMI. In some parts of the north of Holland lies between 7 to 9 inches of snow. The last time this occurred was in 2005. Normally the Netherlands get no more than between 3 and 5 inches of snow. It does occasionally snow in Amsterdam in December, but that almost always means just a light dusting. If you think the city is attractive in dry weather, just wait until you wake up one morning to see it covered in a thin coat of fresh snow. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. But not only in Amsterdam, temperatures freezing are sweeping across Europe. The snow had a significant impact on social life and caused traffic problems in the north of the Netherlands, while in other parts of the country, police have been busy with a number of weather related accidents. Even Dutch rail networks were severely affected and bus traffic is down. Weather centers predict more snow for the Netherlands in the coming days.

This weekend we walk around the canals and made some photos of the snow in of our neighborhood. We went shopping downtown for Sinterklaas celebration. When it snows it’s light dusting and really beautiful. The steep bridges over the canals in Amsterdam are really slippery. ...especially for cars. The best way to travel in the snow is by bicycle, tram, walking or better by sleds. Last night extreme temperature of -9 degrees Celsius. This is rare since the winter has not yet started. Koning Winter tast diep in de buidel. Woensdag was het al snijdend koud met extreem lage temperaturen en veel wind. Nu is de wind omgewisseld voor sneeuwval bij nog steeds ver onder normale waarden op de thermometers. Het levert ons van alles op. Overlast, maar zeker ook winterpret en prachtige plaatjes. Een record is het niet, maar met de komst van sneeuw aan het einde van november, valt de winter vroeg. Heel Nederland werd afgelopen week getrakteerd op een dik pak sneeuw. Dit leverde voor het verkeer de nodige overlast op, maar er was ook veel plezier zoals hier in Amsterdam. De sneeuw zorgde zoals gebruikelijk ook voor gezellige taferelen. Zo lang als ik me kan heugen word ik blij van sneeuw. Kinderen in de Jordaan grepen de kans met beide handen aan en gingen sleetje rijden. In de stad reden auto's stapvoets. Op sommige plekken kwamen automobilisten zelfs helemaal niet meer vooruit. Het vliegverkeer op Schiphol wordt ernstig gehinderd door sneeuwval. Volgens de luchtverkeersleiding was er slechts één baan beschikbaar. Nee, we zijn het niet meer gewend? We zijn de afgelopen 10 jaar misschien gewoon sufgeluld door klimaat terroristen die ons voorgespiegeld hebben dat er nooit meer winters zullen komen en ook nog eens dat dat allemaal onze eigen schuld is ook nog. En nu één klein beetje zonne-inactiviteit en húp het is ineens gewoon weer winter...

Monnickendam is a very nice smaller city at the IJsselmeer, it is one of the ice sailing centres since the 19th century where the traditional fleet is still active. The Netherlands is the best location at this moment. Champions league are helt on February 22-26. So far there are teams from Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Estonia and Poland. The World Championships, as well as European Cup and Baltic Cup are held this week in the Netherlands, at the Gouwzee, Monnickendam. Black Ice, no snow, minimum 16 cm ice and the weatherforecast is that it keeps freezing the coming days. We already have sailed a regatta with monotypes in the Netherlands and on the Gouwzee they have been icesailing every day since January 2nd. Iceboating when it is at the very BEST. The Monotype-XV iceyacht is the only 2-seated iceyacht in Europe today that regulary arrange European Championship. Maximal speed is 130-150 km/h.

Met supersnelle ontwerpen en antieke gevaarten waren IJszeilers deze week naar paviljoen Mirror in Monnickendam gekomen. IJszeilers uit het hele land verzamelden zich op Gouwzee. Het Walhalla voor de ijszeiler want hoewel de ijsvlakte nog niet echt uitgestrekt is, steken ze elkaar met een glimlach de loef af. Verder en harder. In elke ijszeiler schuilt een pionier die nieuw terrein wil ontginnen. Wie steekt er als eerste over naar Marken? Wakduikers heten de onfortuinlijken die in een overmoedige bui te ver gingen en met behulp van collega's uit het wak gehaald moesten worden. Het mag de pet niet drukken. IJszeilen is een gezamenlijke gekte, een collectieve spanning die vanwege de natuurlijke elementen zo bijzonder is. Op pure windkracht zeilen over de eindeloze ijsvlakte, geruisloos en snoeihard. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 150 kilometer per uur razen ze over bevroren meren en plassen. Op 22-26 februari worden er World Championship 2010 wedstrijden gehouden. Deelnemende landen zijn o.a. Nederland, Duitsland, Zweden , Polen , Rusland en Estland. Hoewel het overdag dooit is het 16cm dikke ijs nog wel dik genoeg om goed te kunnen ijszeilen. De wedstrijden van morgen worden een beetje expres buiten de publiciteit gehouden anders zouden de vele bezoekers door de dooi misschien de pret bederven voor de ijszeilers.

Today 13 March 2013, a temperature record of -13 degrees celcius measured. At various places in the Netherlands in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday temperature records were broken. So deep in March is almost never been cold, especially during the day. The amount of snowfall is a peculiarity in this time of year.

Vandaag 13 maart 2013 een recordkou van -13 graden gemeten. Op diverse plaatsen in Nederland zijn in de nacht van dinsdag op woensdag temperatuurrecords gesneuveld. Zo diep in maart is het bijna nog nooit zo koud geweest, zeker overdag. Ook de hoeveelheid gevallen sneeuw is een bijzonderheid in deze tijd van het jaar, net als het feit dat er nog meer sneeuwval op stapel staat. Dat de sneeuw verder makkelijk blijft liggen, is ook tamelijk uniek, zegt Meteo Consult. Sneeuw in maart is op zich niet heel raar, maar dat die niet wegsmelt is wel bijzonder. Ook donderdag kan het nog sneeuwen, maar er wordt verder veel zon verwacht. Daardoor zou het dan minder koud moeten aanvoelen dan de afgelopen dagen. Vrijdag laat de zon zich ook zien, maar later op de dag gaat het sneeuwen. Er wordt voorlopig nog geen lenteweer verwacht. Mijn foto was vandaag te zien in de Yahoo Weather app. Altijd leuk je eigen foto te zien in deze leuke mobiele telefoon app. Zowel voor android of IPhone beschikbaar. De app. zoekt bij je locatie waar je bent een foto op die past bij het weer type. Vandaag sneeuwde het en zag ik mijn foto toevallig als achtergrond. Yahoo heeft een database van foto's van de hele wereld.
