Casa del Mar, one of the three guest houses at Hearst Castle, exudes Mediterranean charm with its Spanish Revival architecture, offering a luxurious glimpse into the grandeur of California’s most iconic estate. Built in the 1920s under the guidance of architect Julia Morgan, the structure seamlessly blends classical and Mediterranean design elements, providing a lavish retreat for William Randolph Hearst’s esteemed guests.
As you approach, the intricate wrought-iron gate draws your attention, framing the entrance beneath the warm terracotta-tiled roof. The detailed craftsmanship is apparent in the stone carvings that adorn the exterior, featuring decorative columns and a pair of mythological figures guarding the doorway. Above, the finely crafted frieze with a detailed bas-relief sculpture encapsulates Morgan’s unique blend of European influence and local craftsmanship.
The villa’s name, meaning “House of the Sea,” is fitting—its proximity to the Pacific Ocean makes this guesthouse one of the most coveted on the estate. From within, guests enjoyed panoramic views of the coastline, basking in the splendor of Hearst’s private paradise. Inside, Casa del Mar was furnished with rare antiques, tapestries, and fine art, all handpicked by Hearst himself. The villa’s intimate setting, combined with its luxurious touches, offered an escape from the main house's grandeur, giving visitors a sense of exclusivity and comfort.

The 1938 Ford Coupe Convertible V8, particularly the DeLuxe model, is a classic beauty with some impressive specifications for its time. It features an 85 horsepower, 221 cubic inch flathead V8 engine, and a three-speed manual transmission. The car’s design includes a distinctive heart-shaped grille, dual windshield wipers, and walnut wood grain window moldings.
This model was part of Ford’s effort to distinguish between its Standard and DeLuxe lines, with the DeLuxe models receiving updated front-end styling and additional features. The 1938 Ford DeLuxe Convertible Coupe is known for its elegant design and has been a favorite among classic car enthusiasts.

Travelers passing through Beaver might find themselves puzzled over the nature of the newest establishment here: Becker’s Cabins Auto Camp. But, those of a certain age, will know exactly what it is.
“Back in the old days when people didn’t camp in tents anymore, the auto camps were little cabins and there was always a place to park your Model T,” said Owner Julie Horine. “There are not many that exist anymore, but a lot of the older people know what auto camps were. They know when they see the sign, they go ‘Oh my gosh, it’s like when we were kids and we would go camping with our families and stay at the old resort.’”
Julie owns the lodging with her daughter Jenny.
It’s believed that the original owner, Ben Becker, built the cabins in the 1940s as rentals to raise money to send his children to Christian college.
The Horines bought Becker’s home in 2008 and the cabins a few years later. Of the four cabins, two are rentals, a third is an antique store and the fourth, Jenny and her family call home.
The rentals feature vintage decor, including iron beds and bent willow furniture, and full kitchens.
People often discover the rental cabins when they stop by the antique shop, where Julie specializes in “petroliana,” a new word for old gas station collectibles.
