For a change, a bit of ancient cultural and architectural history.
It was Christmas and I traveled alone, with little luggage and the photo equipment during a stay in Sinai/Egypt, via Israel to Jordan for two intensive days of photography in the ancient city of the Nabataeans.
I was able to see everything I wanted without the dependencies of a group tour, was able to talk a lot with locals, was invited to tea everywhere, simply an unforgettable experience.
Es war Weihnachten und ich bin allein, nur mit wenig Gepäck und der Fotoausrüstung während eines Aufenthalts auf dem Sinai/Ägypten über Israel nach Jordanien gereist für zwei intensive Fototage in der antiken Stadt der Nabatäer.
Ich konnte, ohne die Abhängigkeiten während einer Gruppenreise, alles sehen, was ich wollte, habe viel mit Einheimischen sprechen können, wurde überall zum Tee eingeladen, einfach ein unvergessliches Erlebnis.

Das Schatzhaus (Al-Khazneh) von Petra, die antike Stadt der Nabatäer,Jordanien, ein aus Sandstein gehauenes Mausoleum direkt nach dem verlassen des Siq.
Das Bild entstand an einem kalten und grauen Weihnachtsmorgen, kaum Menschen unterwegs, nur ein einsamer Arbeiter, der eine Beschäftigung suchte;-)
Die verlassene Felsenstadt Petra (arabisch البتراء al-Batrā’) im heutigen Jordanien war in der Antike die Hauptstadt des Reiches der Nabatäer. Wegen ihrer Grabtempel, deren Monumentalfassaden direkt aus dem Fels gemeißelt wurden, gilt sie als einzigartiges Kulturdenkmal. Am 6. Dezember 1985 wurde Petra in die Liste des UNESCO-Welterbes aufgenommen.
Petra (Arabic: البتراء, Al-Batrāʾ; Ancient Greek: Πέτρα), originally known to the Nabataeans as Raqmu, is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved.
Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans,[3] it is a symbol of Jordan, as well as Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction.[4] The Nabateans were nomadic Arabs who benefited from the proximity of Petra to the regional trade routes, in becoming a major trading hub, thus enabling them to gather wealth. The Nabateans are also known for their great ability in constructing efficient water collecting methods in the barren deserts and their talent in carving structures into solid rocks.[5] It lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as the biblical Mount Hor[6]) in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate Prize-winning poem by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage".[7] Petra was named amongst the New7Wonders of the World in 2007 and was also chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die".[8]

Tharros (also spelled Tharras, Greek: Θάρρας, Ptol., Tarrae or Tarras) was an ancient city on the west coast of Sardinia, Italy, and is currently an archaeological site near the village of San Giovanni di Sinis, municipality of Cabras, in the Province of Oristano. It is located on the southern shores of the Sinis peninsula, that forms the northern cape of the Bay of Oristano, the cape of San Marco. Tharros, mentioned by Ptolemy and in the Itineraries, seems to have been one of the most important places on the island.
Tharros (auch Tharras, Tarrae oder Tarras) ist eine antike Stadt an der Westküste Sardiniens, von der nur noch Reste erhalten sind. Sie liegt 20 km westlich von Oristano in der gleichnamigen Provinz, auf dem teilweise nur 100 m breiten Südzipfel der Sinis-Halbinsel. Der Name Tharros tauchte zuerst auf einem römischen Meilenstein auf. Gegründet von Nuraghern, wurde der Platz von den Phöniziern zur Stadt ausgebaut und von den Puniern und Römern übernommen. Zwischen 827 und 1070 n. Chr. war sie Hauptstadt des Judikats Arborea. Ibn Dschubair berichtet bereits im Jahr 1183, dass er eine Ruinenstadt gesehen habe, als sein Schiff an dem sardischen Vorgebirge vor einem Sturm Schutz suchte.

Die Süd-Agora (heute als Stadtpark identifiziert) war ein riesiger öffentlicher Komplex mit einer Länge von 230 m und einem 170 m langen Becken in der Mitte, das von ionischen Kolonnaden umgeben war. Es handelte sich nicht um eine Agora, sondern um einen Stadtpark, der nach dem Vorbild der Portikusparks des frühen kaiserlichen Roms angelegt war. In einem spätantiken Gedicht, das auf einem seiner Denkmäler geschrieben ist, wird er als "Platz der Palmen" bezeichnet.

Die antike Stadt Gerasa (auch Jerasch, Jarash oder Jerash, arabisch جرش Dscharasch, DMG Ǧaraš) liegt im Norden Jordaniens und etwa 40 Kilometer nördlich von Amman. Sie war Teil der sogenannten Dekapolis. (Wikipedia)

Chersonesos Tauride - "Russisches Pompeji"
Vor zweieinhalbtausend Jahren gründeten die Kolonisten des antiken Griechenlands eine Stadt an der Schwarzmeerküste. Chersonesus Tauride lag im südwestlichen Teil der Halbinsel Krim. An seiner Stelle befinden sich heute Ruinen sowie ein Museum.
Die Jahrhunderte alte Geschichte von Chersonesos ist voll von dramatischen Ereignissen. Zu verschiedenen Zeiten lebten hier Griechen, Byzantiner und Römer. Das Werk des Historikers Strabo "Geographie" enthält eine der ersten Erwähnungen der Stadt: "Viele Könige schickten ihre Kinder zur Erziehung des Geistes und in denen Rhetoriker und Weise stets Ehrengäste waren."
Im frühen Mittelalter wurde die Stadt zu einem wichtigen christlichen Zentrum. 988 wurde Prinz Wladimir in Chersonesos getauft. und verbreitete dann den neuen Glauben in ganz Russland. Nach der Belagerung der Stadt bat der Herrscher um die Hand der byzantinischen Prinzessin Anna und erfüllte die von Basileus Basil II. gestellte Bedingung.
Chersonesos Tauride fiel im 14. Jahrhundert unter den Schlägen der Nomaden. Über das Schicksal der Ruinen war lange Zeit nichts bekannt, bis die Krim nach den Folgen der russisch-türkischen Kriege Teil des Russischen Reiches wurde.
1805 verfasst Alexander I. einen Befehl "Über den Schutz der Antiquitäten von Taurida vor Zerstörung". Die ersten archäologischen Ausgrabungen begannen zwanzig Jahre später. Chersonesos wurde als russisches Pompeji bezeichnet.
Archäologen gelang es, Stadtviertel, die Verteidigungsmauern der antiken Stadt und die Überreste von Basiliken zu entdecken. Im Jahr 1952 wurde auf dem Territorium von Tauric Chersonesos ein antikes Theater eröffnet, in dem bis heute Aufführungen stattfinden.

Chersonesos Tauride - "Russisches Pompeji"
Vor zweieinhalbtausend Jahren gründeten die Kolonisten des antiken Griechenlands eine Stadt an der Schwarzmeerküste. Chersonesus Tauride lag im südwestlichen Teil der Halbinsel Krim. An seiner Stelle befinden sich heute Ruinen sowie ein Museum.
Die Jahrhunderte alte Geschichte von Chersonesos ist voll von dramatischen Ereignissen. Zu verschiedenen Zeiten lebten hier Griechen, Byzantiner und Römer. Das Werk des Historikers Strabo "Geographie" enthält eine der ersten Erwähnungen der Stadt: "Viele Könige schickten ihre Kinder zur Erziehung des Geistes und in denen Rhetoriker und Weise stets Ehrengäste waren."
Im frühen Mittelalter wurde die Stadt zu einem wichtigen christlichen Zentrum. 988 wurde Prinz Wladimir in Chersonesos getauft. und verbreitete dann den neuen Glauben in ganz Russland. Nach der Belagerung der Stadt bat der Herrscher um die Hand der byzantinischen Prinzessin Anna und erfüllte die von Basileus Basil II. gestellte Bedingung.
Chersonesos Tauride fiel im 14. Jahrhundert unter den Schlägen der Nomaden. Über das Schicksal der Ruinen war lange Zeit nichts bekannt, bis die Krim nach den Folgen der russisch-türkischen Kriege Teil des Russischen Reiches wurde.
1805 verfasst Alexander I. einen Befehl "Über den Schutz der Antiquitäten von Taurida vor Zerstörung". Die ersten archäologischen Ausgrabungen begannen zwanzig Jahre später. Chersonesos wurde als russisches Pompeji bezeichnet.
Archäologen gelang es, Stadtviertel, die Verteidigungsmauern der antiken Stadt und die Überreste von Basiliken zu entdecken. Im Jahr 1952 wurde auf dem Territorium von Tauric Chersonesos ein antikes Theater eröffnet, in dem bis heute Aufführungen stattfinden.

Chersonesos Tauride - "Russisches Pompeji"
Vor zweieinhalbtausend Jahren gründeten die Kolonisten des antiken Griechenlands eine Stadt an der Schwarzmeerküste. Chersonesus Tauride lag im südwestlichen Teil der Halbinsel Krim. An seiner Stelle befinden sich heute Ruinen sowie ein Museum.
Die Jahrhunderte alte Geschichte von Chersonesos ist voll von dramatischen Ereignissen. Zu verschiedenen Zeiten lebten hier Griechen, Byzantiner und Römer. Das Werk des Historikers Strabo "Geographie" enthält eine der ersten Erwähnungen der Stadt: "Viele Könige schickten ihre Kinder zur Erziehung des Geistes und in denen Rhetoriker und Weise stets Ehrengäste waren."
Im frühen Mittelalter wurde die Stadt zu einem wichtigen christlichen Zentrum. 988 wurde Prinz Wladimir in Chersonesos getauft. und verbreitete dann den neuen Glauben in ganz Russland. Nach der Belagerung der Stadt bat der Herrscher um die Hand der byzantinischen Prinzessin Anna und erfüllte die von Basileus Basil II. gestellte Bedingung.
Chersonesos Tauride fiel im 14. Jahrhundert unter den Schlägen der Nomaden. Über das Schicksal der Ruinen war lange Zeit nichts bekannt, bis die Krim nach den Folgen der russisch-türkischen Kriege Teil des Russischen Reiches wurde.
1805 verfasst Alexander I. einen Befehl "Über den Schutz der Antiquitäten von Taurida vor Zerstörung". Die ersten archäologischen Ausgrabungen begannen zwanzig Jahre später. Chersonesos wurde als russisches Pompeji bezeichnet.
Archäologen gelang es, Stadtviertel, die Verteidigungsmauern der antiken Stadt und die Überreste von Basiliken zu entdecken. Im Jahr 1952 wurde auf dem Territorium von Tauric Chersonesos ein antikes Theater eröffnet, in dem bis heute Aufführungen stattfinden.
