The Kani tribals know of a wild plant, which can provide almost unlimited energy for trekking through the forests for hours together. The Kanis have an extremely rich and unique Traditional Knowledge about the use of the resources, particularly the biological resources around them. The Kani tribals belong to a traditionally nomadic community, who now lead a primarily settled life in the forests of the Agast-Hymalai hills of the Western Ghats, a mountain range along south-western India, in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The Kanis, numbering around 16,000, live in several tribal hamlets, each consisting of 10 to 20 families dispersed in and around the forest areas of Thiruvanathapuram district. The Kanis are the traditional collectors of non-timber forest products from the forest.
Detailed chemical and phamacological investigations showed that the leaf of the plant contained various glycolipids and some other non-steroidal compounds with profound adaptogenic and immmuno-enhancing properties. The fruits showed mainly anti-fatigue properties.
The floristically rich forests of Agastyakoodam and environs cover about 1300 square km. Of these, approximately 350 square km are climax vegetation. The forest types include the southern tropical wet evergreen forest, the tropical moist deciduous forest, the southern tropical dry deciduous forest, the southern tropical thorn forest and the subtropical montane forest (locally known as the sholas). Thus almost all types of vegetation found in the Western Ghats occur here.
Gouania microcarpaThe exposed rock faces of these mountains are 450 to 2000 million years old. Vegetation here had originated much before that of the Himalayas in the north of India. Of more than 2000 vascular plants found in this region, more than 150 are endemic. As many as 35 of these plants are categorised as threatened or endangered. Some of the forested mountain ranges are yet to be fully explored. In the last two decades alone, more than 25 new varieties of plants had been discovered from these areas.
Just finished up a full kit installation for our friends over at Roswell Wake-Air this morning. They are tricking out their nautique 230 and designed a fully custom, bow to stern SeaDek kit and it turned out sick! Swim platform, cross through, cockpit and forward section as well as small accessory areas are all covered with SeaDek. Aside from the aesthetics these pads make for an unbelievably comfortable surface to stand, sit and play on.
Tracy and Jeremy were on hand for the install and we look forward to doing more projects with them in the future.

SeaDek HD is a heavy-duty, wear-resistant product with SeaDek’s non-skid characteristics and comfort underfoot.

This week production begins on SeaDek's Super Air Nautique 230 at the Nautique factory in Orlando. SeaDek provides non-skid products for the entire line of Nautique boats including the groundbreaking G23 and G25. Production is scheduled to begin on Wednesday and should be completed the first week of May. Look for the new boat to be on display at this year's 54th Masters presented by Nautique.
In addition to the Nautique 230, BoatMate Trailers will be providing a matching custom trailer. Roswell Wake-Air will be providing the deluxe audio package and Ocean LED will be adding the finishing touches with some in-water LED lighting. And, of course, SeaDek will be designing a one-of-a-kind non-skid kit.
SeaDek is unique in that it is made from comfortable and durable closed-cell EVA materials that will not absorb water. Put one foot on the pad and you'll know it's SeaDek. Available in a wide range of colors and patterns and applied with our marine grade hi-bond pressure sensitive adhesive it's an easy addition to any boat.
