A monochrome, Lensbaby photo of a woman standing in a very large patch of wild Indiangrass looking up at the sky. The 8 FT tall blades of the grass with the large, plume-like, seed heads make a blurry, explosive vignette when using the largest aperture of this lens. Photographed at Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park in Warren County, Iowa.

she was walking. a simple act, a straight line from one point to another. then, the wall spoke. a painted man, kicking at the sun with joyful abandon. she paused, her head turned, the forward motion interrupted by a question. art is a question asked of a passerby. sometimes, they stop to consider an answer. then, the walking continues.
Just for fun...

The reason for our recent trip to Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee…the Western Cottonmouth. Reelfoot is pretty famous in our part of the world for three main reasons: Amazing fishing (winter and spring only…it sucks in August), and the largest concentration of Bald eagles and cottonmouths in the Eastern USA.
I have been wanting to go back to Reelfoot to photograph the cottonmouths for many years now. This week my brother Gus and I made the 9-hour roundtrip drive and were blessed with two separate encounters. In this shot, we fired up the trolling motor and cruised alongside this beautiful adult viper.
I guess one's answered prayer can be another’s nightmare.

Many of life's difficult questions are more easily answered here - with waves, a camera, a tripod, and self.
Playing around with some HDR and sans shadow. Thanks to everyone who played along yesterday. The answer is below.
Fun Facts: Grand Teton National Park was created on February 29, 1929 and greatly expanded in 1950 due to the efforts of John D. Rockefeller, who purchased vast tracts of land and then donated over 30,000 acres to the U.S. Government.

In a burst of sunlight that lasted less than a minute, G539, BL33 and G520 lead 7901V out of Irymple at 1705 on Tuesday the 29th of August 2023. Barely 20 seconds before this train came into view, the sun came out and less than 10 seconds after the locos passed me, the sun disappeared behind the clouds, never to be seen again on this day. Of note, this train ran at a larger than normal length of around 1500m.
My dear friends, you have got a very creative guess in these days, and today I am going to tell you the answer.
When I let you see in this angle, "umbrella" is impossible.

I have been thinking about my brother so much lately. We lost him a year and a half ago to an accidental overdose He went to bed and never woke up. My poor dad found him, but it was already too late. He was only 24 and a wonderful person. This song just fits how much I feel. I miss him so much!

A lone fisherman probes the waters of North Gap Lake for signs of piscine life, Snowy Range, Medicine Bow Mountains, Wyoming. All around him fish surface and feed, and he appears unable to divine what might interest them. Fishing can be quite a humbling enterprise...
Although the days begin to grow longer again, I imagine the inhabitants of the lake are currently sealed from sight beneath a cap of lake ice and will be for some time to come. Closer to home, the firewood shed is nearly complete (all but the metal roof sheathing), family members begin arriving tomorrow, and the full moon will be setting at sunrise in the morning hours.
In the spirit of the season, a friend and neighbor will be throwing a Chrismatzo Ball tomorrow evening. All signs point toward merry making! I hope the same holds true over the next weeks for all the fine people I've met on Flickr. Cheers!
WHK is an AM talk radio station serving the Cleveland area. It's apparently the sixth oldest (by FCC registration) radio station in the country.
This strange, turkey-like, galliforme bird has a world distribution almost entirely restricted to Venezuela -- and Tobago. (It is not found in neighbouring Trinidad.) On Tobago it is abundant; its loud cackling "coc-eri-co, coc-eri-co!" can be heard everywhere along the forest edges in the early morning. Female answers male at a slightly higher pitch. They hop clumsily from branch to branch, although they are quite capable of flight.

Matthew 16:2-3, King James Version
2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Weather lore offers us an insight into our days. We are sheltered from the climate and some changes. We are still needing to live within nature and to make a balanced harmony of our lives as best as we can.

There was a power outage over the weekend at Algonquin Park's Lake Opeongo outfitter station. Consequently, not many people were around at sunset - only the sounds of a generator and a few kids laughing at each other's dockside fishing antics. Eventually the generator fell silent and the kids left - leaving us the last ones out. A solitary loon called out but there was no answer.
