The Anna's Hummingbird chick on the right fledged first, and within the hour was back in the nest with it's sibling. Here they greet each other after it's return.

Yesterday, my son found a nest in the tree in our back yard. One egg has been laid thus far. Too well hidden to take pictures of, but the season has begun!

I approached this perched Anna's hummingbird, and what did it do? Stick its tongue out at me!

Through the branches I spied a flash of magenta. Male Anna's hummingbird. Flashy boy for sure.

I went to Commonwealth Lake to see the osprey (Finally got to see it!), but spent more time at the firs, viewing the hummingbirds, kinglets and chickadees. Got several shots of this Anna's enjoying the Douglas firs.

Playing with Jasper in the backyard this morning I heard and saw several Anna's Hummingbirds chasing around. So I ran and grabbed my bird lens. Mr. Magnificent here was proudly signing hymns in our grapefruit tree. He'd turn his head and his gorget would almost blind me. So I knew I must call him, Mr. Magnificent.

OK, maybe it isn't night, but this female Broad-Billed Hummingbird was flying through the shadows giving her some dramatic light.

A female Anna's Hummingbird flying in front of one of our grapefruit trees. Seemed like that grapefruit looked like a ball of sunshine behind her.

I cropped in on this shot because I really like how the colors show on his gorget. Especially the golden highlights. This is one of the many Anna's Hummingbirds that inhabit and do battle in our backyard. (Press L to go large)

No, this is not a golden-crowned hummingbird. It's an Anna's hummingbird that has had her head in the flowers. As she sticks her beak deep into these orange cape honeysuckle flowers, the anthers brush the top of her head and she's left with a yellow mess on top. She wears it well though I think.

Yep, another hummingbird photo. Sometimes you just have to shoot what's in your yard and our yard is filled with Anna's Hummingbirds right now. This one is a female. That's a grapefruit tree bokeh in case you're wondering
