Fragments of 15th century Norfolk School glass collected into the lower part of a window in the south aisle. Most of the figures are feathered musician angels, some perhaps originating from tracery lights judging by their small scale.
St Agnes's church at Cawston ranks as one of the very finest in a county well endowed with so many fine churches. It is most celebrated for its beautiful nave roof (complete with carved angels) and the remarkable rood screen, which retains its row of painted saints, some of which are of unusually high quality.
Most of the building is of 15th century date and its lofty west tower (curiously lacking a parapet with a slightly odd 'flat-top' look) is a landmark for miles around. Within the nave ceiling immediately impresses the visitor with its richness of carved detail, a masterpiece of medieval carpentry. There is further splendour to enjoy in the south transept ceiling, where not only are there many carved bosses but the whole roof retains most of its original colouring.
The windows are mostly clear glazed, which at least allows us to appreciate the surviving furnishings in better light. All the remains of the church's original stained glass is collected into one of the windows on the south side and gives a taste of what has vanished from the expanses of glazing.
The church is happily kept open and welcoming to visitors and shouldn't be missed, being (along with nearby Salle) amongst the very best that East Anglia can offer the avid church-crawler.

Best known as the location of the Jumping Frog Contest made famous by Mark Twain in his story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras,” Angels Camp is also home to one of the most picturesque historic downtowns in California's Gold Country.

1500+ year old live oak tree, provides over 17,000 sq.ft. of shade. Its longest limb is 89 feet. Live Oak wood was a valuable commodity to the shipbuilding industry in the early colonies. Its almost a miracle this one was't cut down.
Angel is believed to be the oldest thing west of the Rockies.

We took a detour while heading down to Biloxi for the workshop. Well, several detours. But one of them is the French Quarter in New Orleans. The model's name is Angel. So full of life, and such a fun person to work with.

The Angel Oak is thought to be one of the oldest living things east of the Mississippi River. Acorns from the Angel Oak have grown to produce authentic direct-offspring trees.. Live oaks generally grow out and not up, but the Angel Oak has had plenty of time to do both, standing 65 ft high and with a canopy providing 17,000 square feet of shade. Its limbs, the size of tree trunks themselves, are so large and heavy that some of them rest on the ground (some even drop underground for a few feet and then come back up), a feature common to only the very oldest live oaks. It has survived countless hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and human interference.
Towering over 65 feet high, the Angel Oak has shaded John's Island, South Carolina, for over 1400 years, and would have sprouted 1000 years before Columbus' arrival in the New World. Recorded history traces the ownership of the live oak and surrounding land, back to the year 1717 when Abraham Waight received it as part of a small land grant. The tree stayed in the Waight family for four generations, and was part of a Marriage Settlement to Justus Angel and Martha Waight Tucker Angel. In modern times, the Angel Oak has become the focal point of a public park. Today the live oak has a diameter of spread reaching 160 feet, a circumference of nearly 25 feet, and covers 17,100 square feet of ground.
