I don't like flashy awards, since they're mostly given because of an obligation to stupid group rules. If you got something to say, say it in your own words and not by copying and pasting. I don't follow such rules, so if you have the sweaper running, don't even bother to invite me please. As of now the flashy awards will be removed, no offence!

under radiation therapy (week two), the patient has developed some pimple-like lesions that are probably first signs of radiation damage to the skin. also, lymph edema (swelling of the face) is getting worse, and the patient is experiencing mild pain when swallowing.

all this wouldnt be so bad, if it wasnt for the lump that formed on his neck (circle in the middle of picture). it's a hard, painless, growing mass that is suspected of being returning cancer.

doctors are currently discussing wether to continue irradiating the area, or if to admit the patient to hospital again to surgically remove the lump in general anesthesia.

needless to say, things arent great, and the patient's compliance (especially with oral hygiene) is suffering drastically, which could lead to further problems / inflamations in the mouth area, which pose a severe thread to his health and the transplant. it's hard to motivate the patient to hang on and fight for his life, as he "cannot be arsed for this shit anymore".

If you read the blogs updated on my website you might know that i recently was admitted in the hospital, and released Thursday morning. I was allowed to take these off two days after i was released. When i was getting them taken off i asked my mother (who drove 4 hours to help me after my surgery) if she could take off the one near my belly button because i thought that would be the one with the most blood, and the most painful... which it wasn't. Slowly as she worked her way around each one had more blood than the last, and the final one had the most blood. Of course. I kept them around to photograph them because i sort of felt like it was an important symbol of a lot of this year. Since class broke out for summer so much has changed for me. I've met people who changed my life, experienced emotions in a way i never thought i would, saw the most inspiring musicians, came to terms with a lot of relationships, joined Symphony Magazine, and ultimately i'm a lot happier and confident. This surgery was just another important thing that needed to happen.

From the Philadelphia Zoo's Facebook post:

"It is with great sadness that we report the decision to euthanize our iconic 17-year-old female Amur tiger Kira yesterday, Tuesday, October 28.

Kira was under veterinary care for age-related joint stiffness beginning in 2011, but after a recent episode of sudden lameness in her front right leg, she was anesthetized for a thorough examination. X-rays of her right elbow revealed severe degenerative changes and evidence of a probable fracture through the abnormal bone at the elbow. Given her advanced age and poor prognosis for a return to a good quality of life, Zoo staff decided to euthanize her following the exam while she was still under anesthesia.

Born at Zoo Leipzig in Germany in 1997, Kira made Philadelphia Zoo her home in 1998; several Zoo staff had the privilege of watching her grow from a cub to mothering many cubs of her own. Kira produced 13 offspring from four litters in her lifetime and has distinctly aided in sustaining the Species Survival Plan population of Amur tigers. She was a favorite among staff and guests and her presence will be greatly missed."

Follow Joan as she undergoes a Rhytidectomy or face lift surgery under local anesthesia. Joan’s face lift procedure included a platysmaplasty, placing smas into the smile or marionette lines, the removal of buccal fat and an upper blepharoplasty.

Successful facial plastic surgery is a result of good rapport between patient and surgeon. Trust, based on realistic expectations and exacting medical expertise, develops in the consulting stages before surgery is performed. At Spalding Plastic Surgery Dr. Paul Nassif will answer specific questions about your specific needs.

For the Rhytidectomy or face lift procedure Dr. Paul Nassif begins the incision in the area of the temple hair, just above and in front of the ear, and then continues around the lobe, circling the ear before returning to the point of origin in the scalp. The skin is raised outward before Dr. Paul Nassif repositions and tightens the underlying muscle and connective tissue. Some fat may be removed, as well as excess skin. For men, the incision is aligned to accommodate the natural beard lines. In all cases, the incision is placed where it will fall in a natural crease of the skin for camouflage.

Joan also had a platysmaplasty or neck lift performed while under local anesthesia. Joan did not like how the muscle bands in her neck (platysma muscle) were becoming more and more apparent. She was noticing how pronounced they were when her neck was turned in different positions (before and after photos). A platysmaplasty or neck lift was performed to provide a nice, smooth contour to her neck. The only incision was under the chin.

The SMAS layer was bluntly elevated and incised horizontally below the zygomatic arch for 5-6 cm and vertically inferior to this cut along the dissection plane in the preauricular region along the posterior border of the platysma. SMAS was harvested along the vertical component of the dissection to be used for grafting into the nasolabial folds.

Joan also had her buccal fat pads removed during this procedure with Dr. Paul Nassif. The lower dissection was connected to the neck dissection. The buccal fat was prolapsed and identified. A hemostat was used to gently enter into the capsule of the fat pad. The fat pad was teased out and the base was cauterized. 1.5 cc of buccal fat was obtained.

Finally Joan had performed an upper blepharoplasty, in upper eyelid surgery, doctor Paul Nassif first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat, muscle, and loose skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar.

A few days earlier from this procedure Joan also had some fat harvested from her stomach via liposuction and transferred to her lower cheek and lateral temporal region.

Due to this procedure being performed under local anesthesia Joan was able to walk away from the surgery with no anesthesia hangover (a feeling commonly related to being under general anesthesia for long periods of time).

Spring 2022 White Coat Ceremony for our DNP Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Anesthesia students

In this video: Ultrasound from Nov. 27, 2012. Footage of Billie Jean with Bernardo and Chaska, her 2010 cubs.

Keepers and veterinarians at the Smithsonian's National Zoo are making preparations for a highly-anticipated birth: Andean bear cubs. Since Nov. 6, Zoo veterinarians have conducted weekly ultrasounds on six-year-old Billie Jean. The first revealed two small, distinct amniotic sacs; three subsequent ultrasounds have shown fetal growth and development, heightening hopes that Billie Jean may give birth for the second time.

Billie Jean arrived at the National Zoo in 2008, and since then keepers have worked to build trust and train her. This training allows keepers and veterinarians to observe her at a close range and perform ultrasounds on her abdomen without anesthesia.
