Easy like Sunday morning title taken from the lyrics of the Commodores song with Lionel Richie as lead and composer, stating the "easy like Sunday morning" as evocative of "small Southern towns that die at 11:30 pm", such as his own Tuskegee, Alabama. The title of the song is actual "Easy" release on Motown. Play it.

The Camera is my new to me Samsung Galaxy which is basically a Point and Shoot with a built Android operating system allowing instant publishing from the site if required. Very similar to a mobile phone, but you can not make phone calls!

The shot was by the kitchen window on the sink top, with gloss black tiles.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Found a nikon point & shoot in a thrift store, the only one I know of that uses an android operating system. Little weird to use. I spent today seeing what sort of quality I could coax out of some cheap little cameras.

Just past noon today in San Francisco T-Mobile launched 100 professional skydivers into the skies over San Francisco as part of a promotion for their new HTC myTouch 3G phone, T-Mobile's answer to Apple's iPhone. The HTC myTouch 3G phone uses Google's new Android operating system.

The skydivers (many formerly from elite military services) jumped over Justin Herman Plaza near the Ferry Building, Pier 39, Moscone Center and the Marina Green.

What are the different types of Kindle? There is the Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyage and the 2016 launched Kindle Oasis. Then of course there is the Fire, this comes as a tablet in various shapes and sizes and then there is the Fire TV of which there are two versions. Confused? It’s not the easiest product line to follow, especially as Amazon took the decision to launch their tablets under the name Kindle Fire, realised the confusion, and then relaunched the tablets simply as Fire. I want to help to clear up the confusion.

What is an ereader?

An ereader is a handheld electronic device that let’s you read electronic books and magazines. Amazon Kindle electronic readers are aimed at trying to replace the physical book. Whether this is actually possible or not is a debate for another blog post.

A Kindle will allow you to download and read books, newspapers and magazines on a specialist

screen that is designed to allow you to read for hours and hours.

A tablet on the other hand uses similar technology to a laptop or desktop, there is nothing specialist about it.

If you are a fan of reading books and magazines, this device is particularly convenient for you. Amazon currently features four varieties of Kindle units, each with a unique appearance and differences.

Learning more about each of these devices and how they differ will assist you in choosing the right device that fits your lifestyle and budget. Let’s break each Kindle down and discuss each model individually.

What is a tablet?

A tablet is a handheld mini computer that lets you read emails, go online, watch video and install apps. It also lets you read electronic books and magazines.

What is the difference between an ereader and a tablet?

I have written an in depth blog post about this ereader vs tablet. To summarise, an ereader is for books and magazines and a tablet is a handheld computer. Although by installing an app on the tablet it’s possible to access the same content as your ereader. The app downloads all the ebooks you have purchased from the Amazon Store and using WhisperSync technology, it synchronises where you are up to magically, across all devices.

The biggest differentiator though is that the screen on a tablet is like a computer screen, but the screen on an ereader is designed to mimic a book.

Types of Kindle

I have listed below the difference types of Kindle that are available to buy and for reference some of the now obsolete models. If you want a full list and specification of the current Kindle line up then take a look at my comparison chart.

Kindle

The Kindle is the baseline model and like it’s bigger brothers and sisters it features the revolutionary e-reader or eink display. This display provides a sharp and high-resolution screen designed for those that want to read books electronically. The entry level model is simply know a The Kindle whereas the other Kindle ereaders have names like Paperwhite, Touch and Oasis.

It includes a six-inch display that utilities the Amazon E Ink technology to form a 16-level gray scale image, that does not have glare even in direct sunlight. It uses Wi-Fi as the only mean of connection, and you need to be in the range of an active Wi-Fi connection to browse and download content. It is simple to use and does not require computer cables or syncing to use.

None of the Kindles include any audio functionality, something that was available on the previous generations. It’ wireless functionality makes it easy to log into Amazon to find and buy an e-book. Shop anywhere in the world, whether you are in bed, taxi or airport. As soon as you buy a book, it will be delivered immediately electronically.

The Kindle comes with an internal storage of 2 GB, with 1.25 GB available for use. This will allow you to approximately store 1400 books. It includes a powerful battery, that can last for up to one month if the wireless is off, and about three weeks if the wireless is on throughout. The device offers five controls well placed in the bottom of the display area.

Kindle Touch

Like the entry level version of the Kindle the Kindle Touch features a 6-inch E Ink screen. The main different is that this version is a touch-screen and allows swipe or tap the display, which is an easier way of navigating menu system or turn the page on your book or document. The Kindle Touch comes with a larger battery than the Kindle, which can last up to two months when the wireless is turn off and about one month when the Wi-Fi is on most of the time.

It comes with a larger space of about 3 GB as compared to 1.25 GB in the Kindle version. The Kindle Touch is advanced in term of internet connectivity as it includes a 3G version, which is much faster wehnaccessing online contents as well as downloading books, because you don’t have to worry about logging on to WiFi networks.

Kindle Keyboard

This device is now obsolete, but can still be purchased second hand. Although it features almost the same internal storage as the Kindle Touch, the Kindle Keyboard E Ink display is not a touch-screen. The Kindle Keyboard offers a five-controller and a full QWERTY keyboard for input. It also includes a two side buttons that use to advance the page while reading. It features a powerful Wi-Fi and 3G models just like the Kindle Touch model.

It comes with a more powerful battery like that of Kindle Touch model and can last for up to two months on a single charge, when it is offline most of the days. If you keep the Wi-Fi on most of the time, the battery will last for about ten days. It is important to avoid the low-coverage mobile area connections (this is what the 3G card uses)

as it will drop down to 2G standards like EDGE and GPRS. Although they still work, they consume battery power faster.

The Wi-Fi network is compatible with 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n standards and supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 security that uses a password for authentication. If you don’t know what that means, then don’t worry as it’s just another way of saying open WiFi standards. It cannot to connect to WPA and WPA2 secured network using 802.1X authentication methods, which are only really used in the workplace and does not support to connecting to ad-hoc Wi-Fi networks.

Kindle DX

The Kindle DX version, also now obsolete, is totally different than the previous three versions that we have mentioned so far. It features a 9.7-inch E Ink display compared to the 6 inch on the other models.

It features a high-contrast display, that allows for up to 50 percent contrast as compared to other E Ink displays. It includes a full QWERTY keyboard, a 5-way controller, and standard turning buttons. It comes with an internal memory of about 4 GB internal storage with 3.3 GB available for storing content and is available in 3G version.

The main weakness as compared to other is that it does not feature a touch screen, its battery can last to up to 2 weeks when the wireless is off. If the wireless is on most of the time, a single charge can last for about one week.

The battery life depends mainly on the wireless usage such as when shopping the Kindle Store and when downloading content. It should also be noted that low-coverage area wireless technologies such as EDGE/GPRS which can be called as 2G, consumes more battery and should be avoided.

Kindle Fire

This is the most advanced version of the Kindle as it features a full-color, multi-touch display. The tablet comes with a modified version of Google’s Android operating system, that allows you to download and run a wide range of applications just like any other standard tablet. Some models start 8 GB internal storage and go up to 64GB and the storage can be used for books, games, videos and music.

Its battery can last for about eight hours when the Wi-Fi connection is on most of the time and about two days when the Wi-Fi is off.

The Kindle Fire only includes a Wi-Fi receiver just like the Kindle ereaders. The operating system supports different files which includes Kindle AZW, PDF, TXT, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, DOC, Audible, JPEG GIF, PING, BMP, MIDI, WAV, OGG, and NON-DRM ACC AND PNG.

Although this model is a bit expensive as compare to the most other Kindles, it’s designed as an alternative to the iPad or Samsung tablets rather than competing against ereaders.

WATERLOO, Ontario—As the BlackBerry smartphone fell steadily further behind

app-loaded rivals like the iPhone in recent years, it was time for an

unambiguous response from the chief executive's office.

At Research In Motion Ltd., however, that was complicated. The BlackBerry

maker had two chief executives. Moreover, their offices were about a

10-minute drive apart. Meetings with both of them present were rare, say

former RIM executives and people who dealt with the company.

Many forces have combined to bring RIM to the point of reporting a

quarterly operating loss, as is expected on Thursday, but one of them was a

split personality in the executive suite, former executives say. As

investor pressure mounted at the company recently, one CEO, company founder

Mike Lazaridis, was focused on a make-or-break push to launch a

next-generation BlackBerry with a new operating system. His co-CEO, Jim

Balsillie, started pursuing a separate strategy that envisioned licensing

out some of the company's proprietary technologies.

Both men are gone from the CEO suite now, replaced in January by former

Lazaridis lieutenant Thorsten Heins. He is slashing costs. RIM says it is

committed to seeing through the rollout later this year of its next

BlackBerry. But Mr. Heins has hired investment bankers to explore options

and hasn't ruled out a sale of a company, whose stock has tanked nearly 70%

in 12 months and pushed its market value, at under $5 billion, to less than

one-fifteenth of its peak.

RIM still has a comfortable cash cushion of more than $2 billion, which it

said last month is likely to have grown in its fiscal first quarter ended

June 2. It also is debt-free, giving it more breathing room to get out its

new phone, with an operating system called BlackBerry 10 that RIM says

"sets the standard for reliable, secure mobile computing." RIM has told its

bankers it is focused on that rollout, said a person familiar with the

matter. If the phone is a hit, the company will recover some of its lost

value, and the new technology will be a boon to any possible sale or

partnership in the future, this person said.

According to interviews with more than a dozen former RIM executives and

industry executives who worked closely with the company, it was a blinding

confidence in the basic BlackBerry product that was at the root of RIM's

current troubles. Compounding that, as they describe the events, were a

drawn-out internal debate over who their core customer was; a series of

catch-up products that didn't really catch the company up; and tensions

within parts of the company.

The bet long made by RIM was that both corporate and individual customers

would continue to favor the BlackBerry's easy-to-use mobile email over the

multiplying features and apps on Apple Inc.'s iPhone and devices running on

Google Inc.'s Android operating system. When it saw consumers starting to

gravitate away from BlackBerrys, RIM moved tentatively.

At one point, RIM worked to challenge the iPhone with telecom carriers that

were fearful of Apple's dominance. The new models that came out of these

collaborations, however, failed to generate iPhone-like buzz.

RIM isn't alone in failing to adapt quickly to the transformation of

smartphones from devices to talk and email into pocket-size computers.

Once-dominant Nokia Corp. has been forced into a partnership with Microsoft

Corp. to equip its phones to compete, and is slashing thousands of jobs as

its share of the global smartphone market erodes.

At RIM, executives eventually brought in outside talent, but that raised

tensions inside the ranks of a company that already harbored separate

Lazaridis and Balsillie fiefs, some former RIM executives and executives

who have worked with RIM say. According to them, the separate teams

sometimes clashed, especially as the onetime smartphone leader slipped

further behind.

RIM, in a statement, said the split-personality characterization wasn't

accurate. "As with any innovative company there were times when various

people within the organization disagreed, but this was not the norm," it

said.

"The CEO structure worked well for many years and allowed each of the

co-CEOs to focus on their areas of strength," RIM added. It said the

co-CEOs started out sharing an office, had offices next to each other, and

then, "as RIM grew, they each took offices closest to those areas each

supervised in order to stay close to their teams. At all times, they had an

efficient, professional working relationship and were in close

communication."

Mr. Heins, soon after taking over as CEO early this year, put an end to the

strategy pursued by one CEO: Mr. Balsillie's licensing initiative. RIM said

it doesn't discuss nonpublic internal deliberations.

Mr. Balsillie has given up his board seat. Mr. Lazaridis remains

nonexecutive vice chairman.

"Successful companies take what they can learn from every situation and use

that to push forward," Mr. Lazaridis said, noting that he and Mr. Balsillie

"felt it was the right time in RIM's life cycle to turn the leadership of

the company over to someone else." Mr. Balsillie didn't respond to requests

for comment.

RIM didn't make Mr. Heins available, citing a quiet period before the

earnings release.

*RIM essentially invented email on the go. Founded by Mr. Lazaridis in 1984

with a $15,000 loan from his parents, the company grew to a stock-market

value of more than $80 billion at its zenith in 2008, controlling about

half the U.S. smartphone market.

RIM CEO Thorsten Heins

RIM hosted lavish banquets for its inventors. To mark milestones, it

treated employees to concerts by bands such as U2 and Van Halen. At the

company's campus of low-slung gray buildings 70 miles from Toronto,

employees got free ice cream on "Frosty Fridays."

Amid its cost-cutting, RIM isn't giving up entirely on ice cream days. "Ice

cream is a relatively low-cost way to build stronger bonds within our

team," RIM said.

Mr. Balsillie, who came aboard in 1992 after having explored a takeover bid

for the company, and Mr. Lazaridis became Canada's best-known billionaires,

each funneling chunks of wealth to pet projects. Mr. Lazaridis built a

theoretical-physics institute. Mr. Balsillie started a school for global

governance and tried unsuccessfully to buy three professional hockey teams.

Behind the success was Mr. Lazaridis's unrelenting vision for robust

engineering and innovation and Mr. Balsillie's push for market expansion.

But former executives say there was also an aversion at the company to

innovations that didn't buttress its core strengths: its proprietary

network and reputation for security.

At an investor meeting about a decade ago, analysts asked Mr. Lazaridis

whether RIM was moving to a color screen, a feature popping up on devices

in Asia. "Do I need to read my email in color?" he replied, according to

Brian Blair, then an analyst with Banc of America Securities.

Former co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie in January

RIM says that at the time, color screens were impractical, with high costs

and high battery drain. It says it was among the first to adopt color

displays just a few years later.

RIM's customers then were overwhelmingly companies, which gave their

employees BlackBerrys for email. But a growing number were individuals,

often eager for features such as cameras, games and Internet browsing. RIM

brought out devices with cameras and MP3 players including the Pearl in

2006 and the Curve in 2007—the year the iPhone came out.

Still, RIM's carrier partners worried that the wild popularity of the

iPhone could give Apple outsize influence in the market. Executives at

Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC approached RIM to work

together on a phone that could compete with the iPhone, say people familiar

with the matter. The collaboration resulted in RIM's first touch-screen

device, the Storm.

"Vodafone started really rushing around saying, 'Helps us build an

innovative competitor to the iPhone,' " said Pieter Knook, a Vodafone

executive at the time. He said Mr. Lazaridis came up with the Storm's

marquee innovation, a touch screen that physically clicked.

The Storm "sold very well," but wasn't a strong competitor to the iPhone,

said Denny Strigl, at the time president of Verizon.

In 2010, AT&T Inc., then Apple's exclusive carrier partner, approached RIM

about a plan to develop a touch-screen rival to the iPhone, said two former

RIM executives. The chief of AT&T's mobile division visited RIM's research

and development team in Waterloo to stress how important it was for AT&T to

have a successful BlackBerry product to sell, according to people familiar

with the visit. RIM said the objective of the visit was to develop "a

differentiated, unique BlackBerry experience for AT&T customers."

"We work with all device makers to bring the best products to market for

our customers," AT&T said.

A RIM-AT&T collaboration resulted in the BlackBerry Torch, say people

familiar with the effort, but it was hobbled by hardware and software

shortcomings.

RIM executives also missed some internal warnings. The sales division

produced a research report in 2010 on the future of tactile keyboards, the

thumb-friendly feature that was a favorite in the early days of the

BlackBerry. The report warned that in the era of Apple's touch-only

devices, keyboards would make up a diminishing share of the market,

according to a person familiar with it, who said the warning was ignored.

During a meeting the same year, Mr. Balsillie asked if RIM should be

worried about a new trend: consumers bringing their own smartphones to work

and asking their employer to let them work on the devices. Some executives

said the trend was a threat; a few said they weren't worried. Mr. Balsillie

went with the latter view, said a person close to the company. RIM said it

doesn't discuss nonpublic "internal company deliberations."

As Apple and Android devices ate into BlackBerry's market share, Mr.

Lazaridis started looking outside for innovation, bringing in a new

marketing team and other top executives. In April 2010 RIM bought QNX

Software Systems, a maker of operating systems for cars and medical

devices. RIM was readying a tablet to compete with the iPad, and executives

decided that they would use QNX to power the device, called the PlayBook.

According to people close to the company, the acquisition stoked tensions

between the teams led by Mr. Lazaridis, who was in charge of product

development, manufacturing and R&D, and Mr. Balsillie, who ran carrier

partnerships, sales and marketing.

The two CEOs met in person fairly regularly, and would send instant

messages or call each other to bounce ideas around or get progress reports

when they weren't in the same room. But as RIM hit trouble, they were more

often than not toiling in very different worlds, according to these people,

who say the teams reporting up to the two didn't communicate effectively if

at all. Some projects would go astray before either co-CEO noticed, these

people say, and disagreements between the two sides sometimes devolved into

shouting matches.

The QNX leadership team reported directly to Mr. Lazaridis, bypassing Mr.

Balsillie and other top RIM officers, rankling them, according to people

familiar with the situation.

Meanwhile, by late 2011, Mr. Balsillie was deep into his own project, an

effort aimed at licensing some of RIM's proprietary technology, such as its

security network and its popular BBM messaging tool, to outside companies.

Some analysts had long suggested such a move to boost revenue and buy the

company more time as it readied its new phone.

Mr. Balsillie and a team under him struck licensing agreements with several

partners, including carriers, according to people familiar with the effort.

The deals would have allowed other smartphone makers and the carriers to

use RIM's network for a fee.

But by the end of last year, RIM shares were hitting eight-year lows. On

Jan. 22, the board, led by Messrs. Lazaridis and Balsillie as co-chairmen,

said the two would step aside. They remained big shareholders and each kept

a board seat.

Within a week of becoming CEO, Mr. Heins, a Lazaridis lieutenant, scuttled

the licensing plan, people familiar with it said. He said he would focus a

slimmed-down RIM on rolling out its new BlackBerry phone moby.to/yh52ms

7DOS 2015/02 Technology, Shoot Anything Saturday

🇺🇸 As a longtime technology enthusiast, I’ve always taken pictures with my phone. I remember the earlier versions of the Android operating system, back when Instagram filters were a brand-new feature. Photos with altered colors were trending back then. Since I was 15, it’s been growing in my mind how much I could express through photographs and images.

One day, I went for a walk, took some photos, and they turned out terrible—even with color correction. Everything looked so washed out, you know? Today, I see photography as an extension of my gaze, but also as a tool for expression, especially through others—in this case, you, the person reading this right now.

My favorite genre is documentary, and the one I can’t ever abandon is social photography. Currently, I save every image I capture somewhere, driven by visual memory. I didn’t really care much about that before. Now, I document everything in some way, edit with subtlety, and publish when possible.

When I made the image you're looking right now, I focused on capturing everything touched by the sunlight at the edge of this scene. I had already captured a lens flare with an old camera at Dom Antônio Zattera Park, between the trees, and I always found that space beautiful—the same space where I would set up to sell handcrafted pieces from Feito com Amor de Oyá. I took this photo, along with others, all in black and white and with my phone.

The photographer I was years ago would be surprised by how much I managed to express in just a few images and quite a few steps within the same space. That’s really exciting—and even more so to be able to say that I’ve been doing this for over ten years, always striving to evolve further.

Last year, I asked a question on Quora asking why Apple ($AAPL) does not violate antitrust laws to default Safari as its browser on iOS devices while Microsoft ($MSFT) was fined billions for defaulting Internet Explorer in Windows. An anonymous user reasoned that Apple’s practice cannot be considered as monopolistic because it does not hold the majority share of the market [1].

A couple of days ago, Bloomberg reported that Apple has—for the first time—taken over Samsung to become the top mobile-phone maker in the U.S. [2]

Does this mean that it is finally possible to pressure Apple to give users the option to customize which browser is used by default on iOS? That would be very welcome, as Google ($GOOG) Chrome on iOS in my opinion gives a far better user experience than Safari, and frankly it is wasting a lot of time for me to be copying URLs from Safari just so that I can paste into Google Chrome.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) passed Samsung (005930) Electronics Co. to become the top mobile-phone maker in the U.S. for the first time, scoring a victory in the companies’ battle for global dominance of the mobile-device market.

The U.S. market is a stronghold for Apple as it faces intensifying competition from Samsung and other smartphone makers using Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android operating system. Samsung, which also makes cheaper handsets with less sophisticated functions, is the global leader in mobile phones with more than 100 million units sold last quarter.

He said he would focus a

slimmed-down RIM on rolling out its new BlackBerry phone moby.to/mbmb54

Monday 30 December 2024: My New Year resolutions for 2025:

1. Do not buy or use any goods or services coming from Israel or their Occupied Palestinian Territories. Boycott Israel - the most racist, fascist, immoral and genocidal apartheid country in the world.

For me, this is a simple operation and will only involve my total boycott of the Israeli online genealogy platforms MyHeritage and Geni. I have no interest in any other consumer product coming out of Israel. But many of you may have heard of Ahava Dead Sea products coming from the Occupied Territories. Don’t buy it, don’t use it.

2. Do not buy or use any American goods or services as far as it is humanly possible today. They only use their income for WAR. The only way to stop this MADNESS is to stop buying and using their goods and services. Money to the USA is money to Israel.

This task is not as simple as boycotting only Israeli goods and products, but I will do my best - just like the USA has done it’s best in supporting Israel’s genocide in Gaza, providing Israel with weapons and incredible amounts of money, abusing their powers in the UN Security Council, working against international law and justice, supporting apartheid and never ever actually supporting or working to establish a Free Sovereign Palestine.

Israel seems to have become a way for all the corrupt American politicians in their archaic 'democratic' system to get an extra income under the table, directly stealing from the people, and for the American War Industries to thrive and grow; it is a Perpetuum mobile where US politicians donate money to Israel and where Israel in return use those money given to buy off US politicians [tax-deductible] and buying their weapons to slaughter Palestinians.

Americans get their money back [but first, some commercials] [without paying taxes] [under the table] and the Israelis get their fascist religious extremist zionist dreams come true. Incidentally, Israel's bizarre dreams of grandeur are closely linked to the American voters' archaic dreams of extremist christian zionist Eschatology. These people all belong in the Bronze Age.

USA has for so many years since the end of the Cold War been endangering all of Europe’s security by abusing the NATO alliance (this abuse started back in 1999 with the bombing of Yugoslavia!) presiding over a European proxy war with Russia via Ukraine - a war that now even involves North Korea (WTF!) and has killed hundreds of thousands of lives in Europe and flooded Western Europe with refugees once again! It needs to stop, and our own nations and politicians who are hostages to the American gangster regime can do no other - so therefore I can no longer justify MY feeble hard-earned money feeding this warmongering genocidal nation. It has to stop, and the only way I can make a miniscule difference is by boycotting American goods and services.

- First on my list: Mark Zuckerberg (1984) and his his Facebook and all of Facebook's subsidiaries through Meta. Easy. Done. Nothing!

- Second on my list: Larry Page (b. 1973) and Sergey Brin’s (b. 1973) Google and Alphabet Inc. - this is not so easy. This company with their search engine, Gmail and their subsidiary companies like YouTube and Android have infested the whole world. Instead of Google's search engine I have been using DuckDuckGo for years - but this is also an American company so my search will go on for something more safe and European.

As for Gmail, I am using Swiss Proton Mail instead but I have yet to to make the cut final. I hope I will be able to do so during the course of 2025.

As for YouTube, I have no clear alternative right now that is not American.

Android is easy - I never used it. But instead of Android I use Apple - which I feel is safer - but here is the problem - it is an American company. Maybe the solution is to go full-on dumbphone and get a Swiss Punkt. I might in fact do that.

What do you really need an American ‘smartphone’ for anyways? Life is analogue.

More American companies and platforms to boycott:

- Amazon Inc. - I can get most of my (paper) books and other stuff I usually buy on Amazon locally anyways. Amazon is a convenient marketplace, that's true - but it’s American and I’d rather suffer a little inconvenience just to not let the Americans get my money.

- eBay - again, such a great platform and marketplace for (in my case) photographic camera equipment and whatnot - but then again - if I could buy directly from Japanese camera stores with ease and no American involvement I would do so in a heartbeat without using American eBay. Let’s hope the Japanese evolve their international trade in this regard.

As for FILM there's plenty of European film providers; hey, we were first with film and photography anyways and have long traditions still thriving and living here. But I do love Kodak 5222. This is a problem - but at least I only use European chemicals these days. Foma and Tetenal.

- PayPal - also a very convenient platform to use, but goddamned this is the brainchild of Elon Musk (b. 1971) and I’ll do my very best to never support that fascist bastard. You’ll never see me driving an American car either, and certainly not a Tesla. Most unethical car ever.

- Airbnb - an American company that makes it easy to rent a room or a house for anyone in all those illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories - it's just as sick as if American tourists through a 'tourist agency' could come and live in Nazi german confiscated Norwegian flats, houses and cottages to relax or just 'experience' Nazi occupied Norway in 1941. This is exactly what Airbnb is making possible in the Occupied Palestinian Territories these days - and I shall never, ever use Airbnb.

OK, that’s a lot but we’re not finished yet.

- Disney - Easy. They destroyed Star Wars. Done!

- Pepsi and Coca-Cola - Done. Never again. There are many other local alternatives. Easy!

- McDonald’s and Burger King - Done. Easy. Probably the worst hamburgers in the world anyways.

So when it comes to consumer products that you get in the general store, there are two really big and awful companies that I will do my best to never buy their products ever again. These two companies are the American-owned Mondelez International and the Swiss company Nestlé together with all their subsidiaries and brands.

Things not to buy (applicable to me):

- Douwe Egberts coffee (Mondelez)

- Toblerone chocolate (Mondelez)

- Heinz products (Mondelez)

- L’Oréal and ALL their subsidiary products Garnier, Maybelline, Biotherm, Lancôme, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Kérastase, Guy Laroche, Redken (Nestlé)

- Nespresso (Nestlé)

- Nescafé (Nestlé)

- Nesquik (Nestlé)

- Nestea (Nestlé)

- Smarties chocolates (Nestlé)

- After Eight chocolate (Nestlé)

- Maggi products (Nestlé)

- Purina dogfood (Nestlé)

[and Friskies catfood for those of you with cats - also Nestlé]

- Freia chocolate products (Mondelez) [The chocolate that could never ever ever be sold to Sweden otherwise we would lose our independence AGAIN - but which could easily be sold to America instead. Remember all those Edvard Grieg Freia commercials?]

- Friele coffee (Mondelez) in Bergen which also produce ALL the norwegian COOP cooffee products and ALL the swedish Gevalia coffee brand products

- Marabou candy and ALL their chocolate products (Mondelez)

Allright, so already quite an extensive list and that’s not half of it.

Therefore at the end, I want to inform you all about the Boycat app - the Ethical Shopping and Boycott Companion. Use it.

And if you have more suggestions of Israeli and American companies, products and services to boycott, do let me know. I’m eager ears.

PS: I am fully aware that Flickr is American. There are many good things coming out of America. I hope in 2025 USA can change their ways.

innovative competitor to the iPhone,' " said Pieter Knook, a Vodafone

executive at the time.

He said he would focus a

slimmed-down RIM on rolling out its new BlackBerry phone moby.to/2bqgsh

Broad shouldered and muscular, yet food friendly and approachable, Uppercut Cabernet Sauvignon makes the perfect match for a sizzling steak.

The wine's generous black cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors draw you in and then, with each swirl and sip, reveal complex hints of mocha, anise, tamari and mineral, plus a racy hint of smokiness.

Well-structured tannins give this wine the backbone to stand up to boldly flavored foods, as well as a plush texture that carries the rich dark-fruit flavors through the lingering finish. This wine's multilayered personality is unmistakably Napa Valley Cab.

BMW is clearly looking to move to the next step of in-car electronics. With the new X3 (which the F20 1 Series and F30 3 Series will be loosely based on) BMW is introducing two Apple related accessories and one iPhone app that signal a seismic shift in the way they integrate electronics into new cars. Most media outlets are focusing on the iPad holder as the key piece. However, much more interesting to us is the iPhone integration both physically and in terms of software.

For years, long development cycles for cars have meant that technology was often much slower to find it’s way on a dashboard than in your living room. The simple fact that car companies spend years working on a car’s electronics before if even reaches the marketplace has historically put the industry behind when it comes to integrating modern technology. But that is slowly changing. And now MINI (with MINI Connected) and BMW (with BMW Link) have thrown down the gauntlet and said that the future lies on devices that are as important outside the car as they are inside.

But why is BMW Link not just cool but brilliant? Because the features live on the device side (your iPhone) in the form of an App. Updates can be made at any time and pushed to the user over the air. That moves new entertainment features from the product side to the software side and that means it’s cheaper and easier for everyone.

For instance lets say BMW has a killer new feature that it wants to release on the 2012 3 Series. In the past that would mean that 2011 owners would be out of luck. Now it means they simply need to update their iPhone app.

On the MINI side the MINI Connected option adds a new 6.5” hi-resolution screen (the same as on the 2011 Nav system). Instead with BMW Link, the iPhone itself plays the part of the screen as well as the device that powers everything.

And as opposed to MINI Connected, the BMW Link app has been refined down to four primary functions:

* Navigation (we’re guessing this will be similar to the excellent Navigon Application currently available since they are the company that powers BMW’s current range of Nav systems)

* Music player functions

* Mobile Phone

* Connected Drive functionality such as breakdown assistance

* Google Local Search and News

If MINI Connected is any reference we expect BMW to expand its BMW Link app to both Blackberry and Android operating systems.

Look for the “BMW Station” for the iPhone to be available on the 1, 3, Z4, X1 and X3 models. We’ll have more on the new options in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s an excerpt of the full Paris Motorshow’s press release that details the new options.

Official Release: Alongside the world premiere of the new BMW X3, the 2010 Paris Motor Show also sees the presentation of a host of Original BMW Accessories for this Sports Activity Vehicle. In spring 2011, a line-up of innovative products will be introduced for all model series which optimise the use of in-car infotainment and communications functions. The new components range from an attachment system – the BMW holder for the Apple iPadTM – to the BMW Car Hotspot, which enables wireless internet surfing while on the move over a WiFi connection.

Top-class in-car entertainment and communications: the iPad holder and WiFi hotspot. A selection of new additions to the Original BMW Accessories range have been specially developed for the use of internet-enabled smartphones, laptop computers and the Apple iPadTM and offer additional convenience, extended functionality and a higher level of integration for safe in-car use of mobile devices. The new BMW holder for the Apple iPadTM teams up with the base carrier of the Travel & Comfort System, which makes its debut in the new BMW X3 and will be available for all other model series from spring 2011, and allows rear passengers to make optimum use of both the office and entertainment functions of their iPad. Turning the holder by 90 degrees in either direction allows the position of the iPad to be adapted to the desired usage. The horizontal format is most effective for viewing photos or videos, for example. The vertical format, meanwhile, is the best choice for office applications, and in this position the tilt angle of the Apple iPadTM can be varied.

The BMW Car Hotspot, meanwhile, offers a new way of surfing the internet while on the move using a WiFi connection. This function is available from autumn 2010 both as an option from BMW ConnectedDrive and as a retrofit item from the Original BMW Accessories range. This innovative technology allows passengers to hook up to the internet using their smartphone, iPad, netbook or other device with WiFi access. The online connection is established by the BMW Car Hotspot. A data-enabled SIM card is either placed directly into the BMW Car Hotspot or fitted in a mobile phone with SIM Access Profile (SAP) which is integrated into the vehicle via the snap-in adapter. The encrypted WiFi connection then allows the passengers to surf the internet using suitably equipped devices. A stable online connection with virtually 100 percent coverage is provided by the seamless transition between the UMTS and GSM networks, and the connection is enhanced by the external vehicle aerial. Moreover, using the BMW Car Hotspot leads to a reduction in radiation levels inside the vehicle and extends the battery life of the mobile device.

Easy connection and an innovative application for the Apple iPhone.

BMW drivers keen to use their Apple iPhone as safely as possible, with maximum ease and to its full potential while on the move will welcome the arrival, in spring 2011, of additional items in the Original BMW Accessories range alongside the familiar snap-in adapter. These include the extremely high-quality BMW Station for the Apple iPhone, which has been specially developed for BMW models not fitted as standard with the iDrive control system. The BMW Station for the Apple iPhone is available for BMW 1 Series and BMW 3 Series models, the BMW Z4, BMW X1, new BMW X3 and outgoing BMW X3 with this specification. The BMW Station for the Apple iPhone is placed in an optimum position within the driver’s field of view and allows the mobile phone to be docked without visible cable connections. It also comes with a hands-free kit featuring a high-quality directional microphone and radio mute function for incoming calls, plus a charging function for the mobile phone.

A BMW-specific software application for the Apple iPhone will be available from spring 2011 as an ideal addition to the BMW Station for the Apple iPhoneTM. Optimised for in-car use, this BMW Link app combines the telephone and music player functions of the mobile phone with a navigation function and selected services from BMW ConnectedDrive, such as breakdown assistance, Google Local Search and News. To ensure that the functions deliver maximum benefit in the car and that the iPhone is optimally aligned, the BMW Station for the Apple iPhone can be used in horizontal format and offers a wide range of adjustment.

Since March I have been running this little survey that is a limited comparison between the current preferences between Apple iPads in the classroom or Android Tablets. It obviously doesn't take into account the other platforms that are on offer such as Windows machines.

There has been a fantastic take up with over 1000 responses submitted and counting!

From conversation with colleagues on Twitter it seems that many people are heading towards Apple products due to the maturity of the App store and the sheer range of Apps that is available.

It would seem from these results that most educators are opting for the iPads over tablets running Android operating systems.

If you took a moment to vote I am really grateful - it would also beneficial to all who are interested in investing in iPads for you to leave a comment explaining your current thinking about the two types of devices. Explaining the thinking behind your decision process could really help others in the same situation.

I have heard numerous rants, raves, put-downs and put-ups for a person's smartphone of choice, but today there are really only two devices at the forefront: Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S4. Call it hype. Call it marketing. But these are the two most popular phones most mobile users chose between this year. So - which one is the best? Well, that's not an easy question to answer, but I have now had an opportunity to drive the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while - here is my comparison analysis:

1. Hardware Features

Samsung loaded my Galaxy S4 with a ton of specialized hardware features. The phone's front-facing camera can detect when I'm looking at it, so it can do things like keep the display bright when reading - which I like, or let me tilt the phone to scroll through pages, or move my eyes to scroll pages (I never use this - I found the feature bothersome). The phone also lets you swipe through photos and other items just by waving your hand over the screen - which I thought was rather cool.

The iPhone 5 doesn't have as many gee-whiz features as the Galaxy S4 does; it's much more simplistic. In fact, the iPhone 5 doesn't have many special hardware features that you can't get on other phones. It's pretty basic: 4G LTE connection, dual-core processor, and a high-resolution 'Retina' display.

Bottom Line: If simplicity suits you, go for the iPhone 5. If you want a bunch of flashy extras, go for the Galaxy S4.

2. Apps/Content Selection

Even though there are more Android users out there, developers prefer to make apps for the iPhone first. Apple has a unified system for all its mobile devices, which makes it easy for developers to make an app once and push it out to millions of users. Since the Android ecosystem is scattered across several different manufacturers and devices, Galaxy S4 owners have to wait longer than iPhone 5 owners to get new apps and significant updates.

Bottom Line: If you want the best apps, get the iPhone 5.

3. Operating System

Samsung's Galaxy S4 runs on Google's Android operating system, but Samsung has modified the look and feel with its own 'skin' called TouchWiz. Still, Samsung does keep Android's core features, so the experience isn't radically different from other Android devices. The benefit to using Android over using the iPhone is that it allows me greater level of customization, meaning I can do things like remove apps I don't want and tweak my home screen with widgets that update with live information.

The iPhone's operating system, iOS, is much more simplistic and easier to use. It's basically just a screen of static icons for apps. A lot of people criticize the iPhone software for being too simplistic, but I can also argue that's been a key to the iPhone's success.

Bottom Line: If you like customization, go with the Galaxy S4. If you want something simple and easy to use, go with the iPhone 5.

4. Design

I was disappointed when Samsung decided to build the Galaxy S4 out of plastic. The build quality is OK, but not nearly as good as the iPhone 5's all metal and glass design. But my Galaxy S4 does have a 5-inch screen, which is a full inch larger than my iPhone 5's screen. That screen size difference has been a big draw for users out there.

Bottom Line: If design and build quality matter to you, choose the iPhone. If you want a big screen, go with the Galaxy S4.

Conclusion

It's a matter of preference. Both the iOS 6 and the Android 4.2 have seen some nice updates. None of these updates are revolutionary, rather improve two already great mobile operating platforms. Android OS has the disadvantage on not being available on a wider scale - while iOS is available on every iPhone. Which one do I think is better?? Well I found features on both that were superb - So I have both. By the way, in the simplest terms both phones do well at what I bought them for in the first place; to make and receive phone calls!

I finally have all the dummy phones on display for Sprint. I still have to attach the bumper fixture at the bottom underneath the Sprint sign, as even though we've attached it for what we thought was for good, it fell off AGAIN...but other than that, it looks awesome!

Our store features HTC's Hero and EVO 4G and the Samsung Moment M900 from Sprint, and the LG Ally and Motorola Devour from Verizon...all in which have the awesome Android operating system!

We’ve been seeing leaks about it for what seems like a full 12 months now, but finally HTC’s new flagship phone is here. And it’s a stunner.

The HTC One M9 takes one of the best phones of last year, the HTC One (M8), and tweaks away its very few bad bits.

At first glance, the HTC O...

I rarely buy CDs these days, but I stopped by Independent Records here in Colorado Springs to see if they had anything from Japan. They didn't, so I picked up these: 4 new, 1 used, 4 bargain basement.

I was robbed on Rush's Snakes & Arrows Live, Amazon has it for $2 less.

If only I had an Internet connected mobile computer (think Android bar code scanning apps).

I did pay $2 less than Amazon for Tenacious D.

Overpaid $1 for Iron Maiden's Dance of Death.

For $2 more I could have gotten a brand new and remaster version of Rush's All the World's of Stage

I hope that seeing their work marked down to 98 cents doesn't hurt the artists' feelings.

Also picked up a Grendel lunchbox. I can't recall if I've ever used a lunchbox before when I was a kid. I remember using brown paper bags in high school.

Synopsys does things for and with computers that are beyond my ken. Here is a quote from a news article about the company:

Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, today announced Android operating system (v2.2 FroYo) support for the DesignWare™ ARC™ 750D processor core. The DesignWare ARC 750D host processor, which runs at 1.1 GHz and delivers 1800 DMIPs in an industry standard 40-nanometer (nm) process, is an ideal choice for designers requiring a high-performance, low-power and cost-effective microprocessor to drive Android-based applications. The DesignWare ARC 750D processor now allows designers to leverage the extensive, existing software and applications available for the Android operating system. Furthermore, designers are able to configure the processor hardware and application software to differentiate their products in the market.

An Android operating system (but not the latest) makes this an easy device to download apps from. Not in Apple's league yet but getting a bit closer. Yet some oddities - the reason this photo won't expand is because I wasn't able to Bluetooth it to my PC or email it so I had to save it to (Google's) Picasa which would only let me transfer it to Flickr in this mini size. Will MediaPad The New Tablet PC To Be Launched by China's Huawei Technologies Be Up To The Fight?

Chinese giant Huawei Technologies to launch MediaPad 7 in Tablet PC 3rd quarter 2011. Yes the giant telecoms manufacturer are about to claim their slice of the lucrative tablet PC pie.

Looking to go head on with Apples iPad 2, and other leading products from Samsung and Nokia.

As reported by Eveline Danubrata and Harry Suhartono

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - China's Huawei Technologies unveiled a 7-inch Android-based tablet PC in Singapore on Monday and said it was also developing a 10-inch device, putting it in competition with Apple and Samsung Electronics.

Victor Xu, the chief marketing officer of Huawei unit Huawei Device, told Reuters in an interview that the company plans to be among the top five handset vendors in three years time, a market currently dominated by the likes of Nokia, Samsung and Apple.

"We are also developing a 10-inch tablet...We hope to launch it this year," Xu told Reuters. However, he declined to give more details and also would not reveal the likely price of the newly introduced 7-inch tablet, the MediaPad.

The company, the world's second-biggest supplier of telecommunications equipment behind Ericsson, has not specified any sales target for the MediaPad which will be commercially available in the third quarter this year through retail stores as well as telecom operators.

Huawei Device is a division of Huawei Technologies that makes cell phones, smartphones and tablet PCs.

It said the MediaPad will run on the Android operating system from Google Inc and use a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor from Qualcomm. It will also come with pre-installed applications such as Facebook and Twitter.

Huawei competes with Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and ZTE Corp in global network gear and is increasingly pushing into the mobile devices sector.

"We believe we can enter into the top five vendors in the global handset market over the next three years," Xu said.

The firm had said in April it expects revenue to reach the $100 billion mark in a decade, driven by sales of telecom devices and smartphones.

However, Huawei's MediaPad faces an uphill task. Apple sold 4.7 million iPads -- which command an 80 percent share of a burgeoning tablet market -- in its quarter ended March amid roaring global demand.

In China, apart from Apple, Huawei's tablet PCs also compete with Lenovo and ZTE.

Xu told Reuters in April that Huawei aims to ship one million tablet PCs this year after selling more than 200,000 units since launching its tablet PCs late last year.

In the smartphones sector, Huawei is betting on Google's Android operating system to compete with Apple's iPhone.

ZTE, China's no. 2 network equipment maker, plans to launch its smartphones based on Microsoft's Mango operating system in the United States early next year, its U.S. CEO Cheng Lixin told Reuters in an interview in May.

Huawei's overseas expansion plans in the network equipment sector have hit roadblocks on suspicions that the company maintains links with China's military.

Ren Zhengfei, Huawei's low-profile founder who started the company with just 21,000 yuan ($3,200), served in the People's Liberation Army until 1983.

This is one of those odd conundrums that often troubles me. When form and function meet and reinforce each other, I don't have a problem. Examples of this are my current camera, my Swiss Navy knife, and dare I say it, my Beretta.

When form and function diverge and do not reinforce each other I have big issues choosing between more stylistic design and the delivered functionality of a product or object. In some cases the tension for me is tangible and on-going. Software wise Lightroom is a great example. It is excellent, but the raw convertor for my camera sucks, and the lack of spell checking for tags and meta-data drives me nuts, I'm constantly looking for an excuse to change to another tool.

The lighters above are another excellent example.

Bic

It just works and keeps working until it runs out of fuel. It is inexpensive, you can instantly see how much fuel it has, and it'll still work after days immersed in water (I know, I've done it). These lighters work so well that every emergency kit we have (and we have several) includes at least one.

It does have problems and limitations though. Any wind will blow it out, it is disposable, looks awful, and feels what it is - cheap.

Ronson

This lighter has a fierce flame that'll keep going in almost any wind, it is refillable, and it lights every time. It uses a Piezo igniter which shouldn't wear out quickly - though how water resistant it is, I've yet to find out.

The Ronson has several problems, but my issues with it are mainly aesthetic. There is no way to check how much fuel it has, the case is made out of some horrid, cheap metal, it is heavy, has an odd unsatisfying shape, and it looks awful, especially as the coating wears off.

Zippo

This lighter is light and a joy to hold, use and look at. It wears well, after many years of use mine still looks quite new. And finally, it makes a most satisfying noise when you open and close it.

The Zippo has many problems though. It is supposed to be windproof, and it is, but only up to a point, you cannot tell how much fuel it has, the fuel evaporates quite quickly if the lighter isn't used, it cannot be used on its side (a requirement for lighting a campfire), and will not light at all if wet.

Logically the Ronson or the Bic should be my EDC (EveryDay Carry). However, I've never carried the ugly and inexpensive Bic except in my emergency kits. I love the Zippo and want it to be my EDC lighter, to date I've either kept re-filling the Zippo, wasting fuel as it evaporates, or I carry the ugly, but serviceable Ronson, which I dislike.

Good News

After writing this, I decided to repeat a search I did a couple of years ago - searching for butane inserts for Zippo lighters. Great news: now there are several inserts to choose from. It looks like when the original manufacturer fails to improve or fix a fault in their otherwise brilliant design, someone else will step into the breech to do so. It won't be perfect (the butane container on the one I've picked isn't transparent so you cannot see how much fuel is left) but it is a step in the right direction.

If only …

It's a shame no one has resurrected the design of my old PDA, I'd love to have that form-factor with a modern screen and capabilities - I'd even put up with the Android operating system. I always thought there would be a market for a titanium cased version too.

In the Code Android Oct 09 meetup, Hongster (Leong Hean Hong) will be talking about “ColorFilter For The Dummies” and Royyuru Avinash on “Monetizing on Android”. I didn't take much photos during the Code Android session as I was really focusing on the talks (due to the unfamiliarity of Android platform).

Anyway, the above shows the pantry corner of Google Singapore office, where the Google staff can help themselves to the drinks and food. Thanks to Google Singapore that attendees of the Code Android and Singapore Google Technology User Group (SG-GTUG) enjoys the same privileges!

What is reddit, really?Don't think of reddit as one giant community. This site is made up of "sub"reddits, which are all their own communities. Every single post you see on this site belongs to its own community, with its own set of users, and with its own set of rules. reddit provides you an easy-to-use interface for managing what posts you see by letting you subscribe or unsubscribe from certain subreddits.By making an account, you are automatically subscribed to a set of "default" subreddits which are a set of highly popular communities that the administrators of this site feel would give the average person an interesting first experience.Don't like one or more of these default subreddits? Use the "unsubscribe" button on the sidebar, and start customizing your reddit front page! Find subreddits that interest you. Many subreddits feature lists of "similar subreddits" that will help you find other awesome places to subscribe to. Looking for a subreddit but you just don't know its name? Try /r/findareddit! Finally, try setting up a multi-reddit to categorize your subreddit list even further!Tips for your account.See and change your preferences. Customize how many comments show up, what kind of posts show up, and more!Verify your e-mail. If you don't do this and you lose your password, you will have no way to log back onto that account. Ever. Please do this!Karma is a point system that lets you know how your submissions or comments are doing. The more karma your post has, the more people have upvoted it. Generally a higher karma count on a post means that the community of that subreddit found your post valuable and interesting. Your karma is logged on your user page on the top right. Please note that self-posts earn you no karma. Only comments and link-posts do.What is the sidebar? The "sidebar" is the list of information pertaining to a specific subreddit. At the top you will find a link to submit a post and a link to search the subreddit. It also contains the link to "subscribe/unsubscribe" from that subreddit. Underneath that it generally lists the rules, guidelines, relevant information, similar subreddits, etc.Note: many mobile reddit apps require you to press a certain button for the sidebar to show up. Every subreddit has a sidebar. Please don't forget to look for it even if your app doesn't immediately show it! Here's an image showing where to find it on common reddit apps. You should always read the sidebar before submitting a post to any subreddit, and if you don't understand a rule message the moderators to ask. This ensures that your post stays on the subreddit, as rule-breaking posts will likely be removed.Have a question about a submission to a particular subreddit? Ask the moderators there! Here's an image that shows you where you can typically find the link to message the mods.Who are moderators? What do they do?Each subreddit is a community with its own focus. The mods are volunteers who ensure the subreddit stays true to its purpose by enforcing set rules. For example, /r/android is a subreddit dedicated to discussion of the Android operating system. Anything not directly related to Android is removed by its moderators. Similarly, /r/apple is a subreddit dedicated to discussing Apple and its products.Moderators have the power to approve or remove any comments or submissions made to only the subreddits they moderate. They can also issue a ban for users on their subreddit. Moderators enforce the rules laid out in the sidebar, so if you follow all the rules in the sidebar you should be good!Who are admins? What do they do?Meet the admins. The admins are like super-moderators. They have all the abilities of moderators across every subreddit plus more. They are paid employees of the site and they ensure that the site runs smoothly for all users. The admins are generally hands-off when it comes to individual subreddits, letting the moderators and the community decide how its run. However, the admins will enforce the rules of reddit on every subreddit. Be familiar with these rules. Failure to follow these rules may earn you a sitewide ban, or the closing down of a subreddit. What is reddiquette?reddiquette is an informal set of guidelines to follow before commenting or submitting on reddit. As reddit has grown, certain behaviors have been frowned upon and other behaviors have been encouraged. reddiquette spells out these behaviors so you aren't left wondering why your posts aren't well-received. You might not be banned not following reddiquette, but you will probably be showered in downvotes if you don't.Help! What happened to my post?reddit is a huge forum with millions of users. Many posts are made here every day. Many, many posts are made with the intention to spam or harass other users. Other posts just don't fit the subreddit. Moderators have to filter through these posts every day to ensure their subreddit stays on topic and free of hostility. Some moderators use bots to help them report posts, some moderators do it all themselves. Every subreddit is different. If you find your post not showing up in the subreddit, your best bet is to ask the moderators there why it's not showing up. Please note: when you message the moderators, ALL moderators can read it! It's a shared inbox!I can still see my post but others say they can't?Nothing is really removed from reddit, if a mod removes something it is de-listed for others to see. You can still see it with a direct link.My post was removed because it was spam? What gives? Spam is a tricky subject, reddit has several base rules but much of it is left for moderators to decide. reddit's FAQ has a good section explaining it.I have a great idea for a subreddit!Awesome! Message the moderators so you can talk to themI have a great idea for reddit as a site!Awesome too! Post it in /r/ideasfortheadminsWhat if I don't like the moderators or how the subreddit is run? That's okay, reddit was built to handle just that! First though, make sure that you talk to the moderators of that subreddit just to be sure there aren't any misunderstandings, or if you can't just compromise. Otherwise, make your own community! Here is an excellent guide for starting and moderating your own subreddit.Moderators are people, too, so if you want your voice heard consider messaging them politely with your concerns. We care about the communities we help run and would hate to see users leave because of something that we can help fix! What if I need help with something else?Try /r/help for general help on reddit. /r/askmoderators can also help you out if you need to ask mods about anything.I think I found a bug.Uh oh. If you are using an application or extension, most have a subreddit you can post in! (/r/RESIssues, /r/alienblue, /r/redditisfun). If you found a bug with reddit itself, post it to /r/bugs (more serious issues should be sent directly to the reddit security team: see the /r/bugs sidebar for contact information.)Other Subreddits of NoteOther good subreddits to check out for help with various topics are /r/Modhelp, /r/Modnews, /r/ChangeLog, /r/Blog, and /r/Announcements.Read more about reddit and how it works. Also, see the FAQ on /r/help! via /r/spaceporn ift.tt/1qcffB7
