This plot was to have been a 17 story hotel, though as with many sites there was either a stop work order, or the deal fell through completely.

I feel how this section of Long Island City is on the brink of blasting off on the super sonic gentrification rocket, as the LIC BID expanded into this area, and the building pace will increase significantly in 2026.

Vanishing Cornwall (1967)
~ Daphne du Maurier
I had also read her novel The House on the Strand which was excellent
The author had been an English novelist, biographer and playwright.

The novel blends history, folklore, and travelogue to capture the essence of Cornwall, the county she called home. The book, which includes photographs by her son Christian Browning, is a personal and evocative exploration of the region's landscape, legends, and changing way of life, lamenting the impact of mass tourism while celebrating the enduring spirit of the area.
--
Unbeknownst to many, in 1952 Ms. du Maurier had penned a book of short stories titled "The Apple Tree", within which included a story titled "The Birds". That story was the inspiration for Alfred Hitchcock's film of the same name, released in 1963, the same year that The Apple Tree was reprinted as The Birds and Other Stories. In 2009, the Irish playwright Conor McPherson adapted the story for the stage at Dublin's Gate Theatre.

Publishers can be very smart

What's even more interesting is how in 1940, Alfred Hitchcock had directed a movie titled 'Rebecca', of which Daphne du Maurier had written the novel

Concrete pumping is a specialized technique used in the construction industry to move freshly mixed concrete from a ready-mix* truck to the placement area. This process utilizes hydraulic power to transport concrete through a system of pipes and hoses, significantly simplifying the logistics of concrete placement compared to traditional methods like wheelbarrows or crane-lifted buckets.
(*) Ready-mix concrete is concrete that is manufactured in a batch plant and delivered to the job site ready to use. It is ideal for large patios, driveway renovation, pool decks, home foundation slabs, parking lots, and new sidewalk construction.

Located at the northwest corner of Park Avenue and 60th Street, the church was built primarily during 1931–1933. Church services began in 1933 but financial impacts of the Great Depression and shortages of World War II prevented the mosaics planned for the interior from being executed until 1948–49. The church was designed by Ralph Adams Cram, who is known for his Gothic Revival ecclesiastical architecture. While designing this church, he used a combination of Romanesque and Byzantine Revival styles instead.

Nothing with this. Just a feeling about this western area of Long Island City/Astoria.
New York or Nowhere has established a cult following since its founding during the depths of the pandemic.
Quincy Moore founded the lifestyle brand Knowlita in 2015, and Knowlita sold “New York or Nowhere” shirts. In 2020, Moore formed a company with Liz Eswein called New York or Nowhere (NYON), and in 2022 they opened a store on 250 Lafayette Street in Manhattan.
The saying “It will Always be New York or Nowhere” has been on some products since 2020. “New York Knicks or Nowhere” (in association with the New York Knicks, an NBA basketball team) has been on some products since 2025.

This morning it had been so beautiful outside. Cold and windy, though bright sun and blue skies. A treat for us New Yorkers, as we've had overcast days and rain for much of the past week.

Edwardian architecture usually refers to a Neo-Baroque architectural style that was popular for public buildings in the British Empire during the Edwardian era. Architecture up to 1914 is commonly included in this style. It can also be used to mean various styles in middle-class housing, including relaxed versions of Arts and Crafts architecture.
