Andes pass libertadores in winter

Lake Nahuel Huapi is immersed within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, which is the oldest of the Argentine national parks.

It was created by the Argentine government in 1934, on the base of the donation of 3 square leagues (7,000 ha) carried out by Francisco Pascasio Moreno for this purpose.

The park covers 717,261 ha, in a strip of about 60 km wide for about 170 km from north to south, lying on the Andes mountain range. The Nahuel Huapi National Park is internationally famous for its attractive photography. It is located between the altitudes of 700 masl and 3400 masl, it stands out for its representative ecosystems of the Patagonian Andes, inhabiting more than a thousand higher botanical species, and some 300 species of vertebrate animals.

Getting to know Victoria Island and witnessing the spectacle of the Bosque de Arrayanes is a pleasure that has been experienced by millions of visitors to this National Park but still awaits, with its intact navigation conditions, the next tourists who, like us, arrive to visit them.

this is just one of the incredibly beautiful mountainscapes I had the chance to see after coming back from a hike in the Andes, right at the Argentina-Chile border. The car was moving but the landscape was unique, so I did my best to get it right. no time for tripods nor for second chances, think fast and shoot fast. special thanks to the bus driver whom kindly slowed down a bit to help me out.

The Patagonian Andes guard the entrance to the Southern Ice Field as the Perito Moreno Glacier slowly makes its way down to the lower ground of Argentino Lake. At its end the Perito Moreno Glacier has an average thickness of 170m (558ft) with 74m (240ft) visible above the water line above the lake. With over 250 km2 (97 sq mi) of ice the glacier spans 30 km (19 mi) in length and a width of 5km at its terminus. Since 1968 rupturing ice has taken the lives of 32 people who were hit by flying ice. One of 48 glaciers that form part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the high altitude field has a total area of 12,363 km2 (4,773 sq mi) of ice. The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is a medium-sized hummingbird. It has a distinctly rufous-colored tail, from which its named is derived, and a bright pink bill. Like other hummingbirds, it feeds on nectar and small insects. It can be highly territorial over feeding areas.

The Rufous-tailed Hummingbird is perhaps the most common species of hummingbird at forest edge and in gardens and cultivated areas from southern Mexico south to northwestern South America.

This is possibly my favourite photo from my recent (and last-minute) trip to Ecuador for the Ministry of Tourism as part of their Feel Again Project. This particular shot was taken at the amazing Hacienda Zuleta in the Andes.

Sorry I haven't been as active on Flickr as usual; I didn't have much internet access over the last month or two.

Cordillera Real
