Probablemente una de las mejores colecciones de anclas del mundo se encuentre en éste Museo Naval. Alrededor de un centenar de distintos tipos de anclas, de diferentes épocas, procedentes de los buques de la Armada, se exponen en éste edificio del antiguo presidio de San Campio (Siglo XVIII), en el Arsenal de Ferrol.
Anchors of the past.
Probably one of the best collections of anchors in the world is in this Naval Museum. Around a hundred different types of anchors, from different periods, from the Navy ships, are exposed in this building of the old San Campio prison (Eighteenth century), in the Ferrol Arsenal.

On my first morning of walking around the town. I spent some time on the port with fishing and ferry boats.

The ancient live oaks of Fort Frederica stand in place like anchored giants. Anchored by large thick snaking vines. These vines grow from the ground, wrapping the oak trunks, working their way into the tree top canopies and then dropping back down to the ground. The Spanish moss drapes along these vines like curtains blanketing out the light. A burden for nature's ancient sentinels.
An anchor not only holds the ship in place because it anchors itself to the seabed. The anchor chain must be long enough to hold the ship by the weight of the chain.

Out shooting for my Stuff in the Sand collection at Pescadero State Beach, I came across a rock with a kelp stalk anchored to it among the rocks. Looks like it didn't anchor very well.

By the time I took this shot near Tomahawk Point the wind was really starting to increase in speed. As you'll see here, the trawler has dropped anchor to keep from drifting towards the shoreline and dangerous rocks. The sky from this angle was bereft of clouds and is already taking on an interesting complexion - a combination of the salt air and the sand being whipped up in the foreground. But as far as the composition was concerned, that sky provides some interesting negative space to balance the trawler. Too much water here would have been, well, too much.
P.S. Those dark smudges in the air behind the boat are not spots on my sensor, but sea birds.
