On August 23, 2010 seven of the “Wonderful Women of ‘58” spent a week near Williamsburg, Virginia. Here we are with Ben Franklin in Smithfield, Virginia, home of Smithfield Hams.

Ames High School 1958 classmates seated from left: Judy Sylwester Moser, Kit Carr Struthers and Sandy Lampe Sandfort. Standing from left: Sonja Haugen Lane, Mary Lou Gould Bryan, Mary Kay Arthur and Joan Sclarow Rodgers.

We had a wonderful time staying in a beautiful plantation manor house built in the 1800s right on the James River. We spent one day each in Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and touring two other plantation homes. One day four of us drove over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to Maryland and Delaware and waded in the Atlantic Ocean at Delaware Seashore State Park. The other four drove to Virginia Beach to play in the water. Anne Strand Thompson joined us for our final day and went with us to tour Bacon’s Castle, a home built in colonial times, before the Revolutionary War.
