Here's an extract from a bruchure on the opening of the St Leonards Centre in Crows Nest, Sydney.
‘To those who work here, St Leonards Centre has been designed as a home away from home for the 400 people who will eventually work there. It is fully air-conditioned, tastefully decorated in bright colours, carpeted throughout, and includes every possible staff amenity.
In order to gain maximum utilisation from St Leonards Centre, parts of it will work around the clock. The computer installation, for example, never needs to sleep, eat meals or take holidays, and seldom gets sick. When fully operational, St Leonards Centre will employ staff on a three shift basis - about 300 on daylight, 60 on twilight and 40 on night. Cleaning and maintenance of the building will be carried out in the small hours of the morning to eliminate needless interruptions.

Could not resist a couple of shots of the scavenger gulls whilst I was at the dump . At the time they were just sitting on the roof lines until a second group joined in and then it all got exciting and it was gulls everywhere - all I can say is I am so glad I was not in the firing line of any flying guano !!
Virginia City, Montana
In the 1940s, Charles and Sue Bovey began buying the town, putting much needed maintenance into failing structures. The ghost town of Virginia City began to be restored for tourism in the 1950s. Most of the city is now owned by the state government and is a National Historic Landmark operated as an open-air museum. Of the nearly three hundred structures in town, almost half were built prior to 1900. Buildings in their original condition with Old West period displays and information plaques stand next to thoroughly modern diners and other amenities.

An old small temple for the non Muslim workers to pray for peace and protection. Most temples in the plantation or estate are run down now due to reduction of non Muslim workers in the estate who prayed in these temple. In the 50s to 70s most estate workers were descendants from Indian and Chinese workers that came before this country was formed. In the 80s and 90s, the management replaced the local workers with foreign workers for cost cutting or whatever reasons. Estates used to have proper road and amenities provided by the estates. However profit driven management had cut away most if not all since foreign workers were not demanding as the local workers. Well I digress.... as most old man do - thought prompted by International Labour Day

Land’s End, Cornwall
The furthest point on our mini grand tour. A honeypot/cliché location but you can’t go all that way and not bother. We had all hoped for some proper stormy skies or at the very least, some sunrays drifting across the cliff faces or the lighthouse, but it was not to be! Still we ventured further than the Land’s End amenities that most tend to hang around. This is the best I managed.
seen on Denman Street this weekend. The sign for the new Shoreline development is advertising the repurposing of the former Landmark Hotel. We always use their parking lot when we come to Denman Street. From the website it sounds like it going to be pretty swish but I notice there are no prices quoted for these apartments. I remember my first bachelor apartment in the Westend was $211 a month. It was on the seventh floor and had a view of English Bay, and also came with cockroaches, free of charge :) but that was way back in the golden year of 1978 ...
This is an urban park in Burnaby, BC, Canada with natural trails and wildlife as well as civic and cultural amenities.
The innermost part of Gairloch harbour. Further out there is still a small fishing fleet and a selection of boats offering sightseeing and fishing.
The road to Gairloch is increasingly narrow - beyond it becomes single track with passing places. However, the town has a good range of amenities - including a real bank (!) But it's main attraction is it's attractiveness.

Illa de Vancouver, CANADÀ 2024
In the Victoria area of Vancouver Island, there is a park named Queens' Park (sometimes referred to as Queen's Park) located in the district of Oak Bay, adjacent to Victoria.
The name is used for several parks in British Columbia (most notably in New Westminster), but the one in Oak Bay is the relevant one in the Victoria area.
Key Highlights
Seaside Location: The park is situated right on the shoreline next to the Oak Bay Marina, offering spectacular scenic views of the Juan de Fuca Strait, nearby islands (like Chatham and Discovery Islands), and on clear days, Mount Baker in Washington State (USA).
Amenities and Art: It is a quiet spot, ideal for relaxing and picnicking. It features benches, beach access, and interpretive signs about local birds and wildlife. It was renamed in 2002 to honour Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee.
Public Art: A unique feature of the park is the public art installation called "The Hunt," which depicts a pack of steel-welded wolves.

Here's another image from Stockton, Ca. While not as old as the main sign, I really like the RCA sign that you would see on so many motels back in the good old days. I also recall how many started adding "HBO free in your room" type signs when that came out. I think by then, the "Color TV" ones were becoming obsolete.
Anyway, thanks for having a look and considering signs and what they mean. What do they mean?
Out on the pathways just before sunset on a hot & humid August night in The Woodlands. The Woodlands has over 220 miles of pathways throughout the community for walking, running, or cycling. It is a terrific amenity for those of us that live here.
The tug, Svitzer Thames, sailing down the River Thames, with the Tilbury tower blocks Brisbane House, Freemantle House and Tasmania House in the background...
I'm not certain when Svitzer Thames was built: I think Svitzer acquired it in 2021, and that it was built 2018/9. It was built in Vietnam.
The tree tower blocks are examples of 1960s built 'solutions' - cheap constructions that treat people almost as automata, 'needing' a minimum space to live in so allowed a minimum space to live in, with little or no thought for amenity or community. The latter is left to the people themselves, who are better than the architects and planners. These three are a mile inland. Rant over.

Hooray. Today we finally learnt how to develop C41 film, so I can now process my own colour negatives. I actually want to use my camera again. Black and White is CRAP.
On the way home we took a detour to this little second hand
goods shop I know. It's amazing in there. The owner is a very quirky bald 60 year old with a great sense of humour.
I found a little gem of a shoe box as well, full to the brim with hundreds of slides. We bartered for a while and he finally went down to a tenner. Bargain.
Good timing as well because I've got a colour slide/film digital workshop on Friday, so I'll use some of the better ones of these to practise with. When I'm done with them I'll be passing them on to my Dad who I know digs this stuff as much as I do.
I am also logging my entire day by video on the iPhone every day for 2010 - Latest one including the bric-a-brac shop is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlSwhjYjgKw
