Majestic Princess is a Royal-class cruise ship currently operated by Princess Cruises, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation & plc. Built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy, she is the third Royal-class ship in the fleet and debuted in April 2017.
Majestic Princess was originally outfitted to accommodate the Chinese market, with facilities and amenities originally designed to meet Chinese tastes and needs. This included accommodating all passengers with Chinese in signage, announcements, and offerings. Such facilities include a Cantonese cuisine-centered specialty restaurant, a tea bar, a VIP casino, and private karaoke rooms.
Majestic Princess has 18 decks, 15 of which are accessible to passengers.[8] She currently measures 144,216 GT, has a length of 330.0 m (1,082 ft 8 in), a draft of 8.4 m (27 ft 7 in), and a beam of 38.4 m (126 ft 0 in). She is powered by a diesel-electric genset system, with four total Wärtsilä engines, producing a total output of 62.4 MW (83,700 hp). Main propulsion is via two propellers, each driven by an 18-megawatt (24,000 hp) electric motor.[9] The system gives the vessel a service speed of 22 kn (41 km/h) and a maximum speed of 23 kn (43 km/h). The ship houses 1,780 passenger cabins and 757 crew cabins. Of the 1,780 passenger cabins, 81% have a balcony. The ship has a maximum capacity of 5,600 passengers and crew.
The then-unnamed vessel was ordered on 30 July 2014 from Fincantieri at a cost of €600 million. The ship was planned to carry the same features and design as her two sister ships, Royal Princess and Regal Princess. In May 2015, Princess announced that their third Royal-class ship would be deployed to China year-round and be modified accordingly. On 9 October 2015, it was unveiled that the ship would be named Majestic Princess, and also carry the conjoining Chinese name, 盛世公主号 (Shèngshì Gōngzhǔ Hào, literally Golden age princess), an interpretation selected by Carnival PLC China's employees, which means "Grand World" or "Grand Spirit". On 10 July 2015, the ship's keel was laid at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. She was floated out on 8 February 2016. In January 2017, she successfully completed her sea trials. Majestic Princess was delivered to Princess Cruises on 30 March 2017 in Monfalcone.
Majestic Princess embarked on her inaugural cruise on 4 April 2017, a five-day Adriatic voyage round-trip from Rome, visiting Kotor and Corfu. She spent her first month cruising in the Mediterranean before embarking on a 49-day re-positioning voyage to Asia from Rome on 21 May 2017. She arrived in Shanghai for her Chinese debut on 9 July 2017 and was christened that day by Yao Ming and Ye Li.
Majestic Princess was originally planned to sail from Shanghai on a year-round basis, but it was later announced that she would begin sailing from Australia for approximately half of a year. She debuted in Sydney in September 2018. Between 2017 and 2021, Majestic Princess operated sailings in East Asia from Keelung between April and August, and in Oceania from Sydney between September and March. Originally slated to debut on the West Coast of the United States in fall 2021 from Los Angeles to sail to the Mexican Riviera and along the California coast, fleet redeployments later scheduled her to debut several months earlier and begin sailing in Alaska from Seattle in summer 2021.

At the time they were just sitting on the roof lines until a second group joined in and then it all got exciting and it was gulls everywhere - all I can say is I am so glad I was not in the firing line of any flying guano !!

seen on Denman Street this weekend. The sign for the new Shoreline development is advertising the repurposing of the former Landmark Hotel. We always use their parking lot when we come to Denman Street. From the website it sounds like it going to be pretty swish but I notice there are no prices quoted for these apartments. I remember my first bachelor apartment in the Westend was $211 a month. It was on the seventh floor and had a view of English Bay, and also came with cockroaches, free of charge :) but that was way back in the golden year of 1978 ...

This balcony is reserved for VIPs, usually owners of the horses at the race track. A prime viewing location is just one of the amenities they enjoy upstairs in 'business class'. Needless to say, I've never had a whiff of the rarified atmosphere in that venue; I can only look up in envy and imagine what the Champagne tastes like. Seen at Ballinrobe Racecourse, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Here's another image from Stockton, Ca. While not as old as the main sign, I really like the RCA sign that you would see on so many motels back in the good old days. I also recall how many started adding "HBO free in your room" type signs when that came out. I think by then, the "Color TV" ones were becoming obsolete.

The city is at the southern end of the Tampa Bay Area, north of Fort Myers and Punta Gorda. Its official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2019 Sarasota had a population of 58,285. In 1986 it became designated as a certified local government. Sarasota is the principal city of the Sarasota metropolitan area and is the seat of Sarasota County. Long the winter headquarters of the Ringling Brothers Circus, many landmarks in Sarasota are named for the Ringlings.
The Sarasota city limits contain several keys, including Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, Casey Key, Coon Key, Bird Key, and portions of Siesta Key. Longboat Key is the largest key separating the bay from the gulf, but it was evenly divided by the new county line of 1921. The portion of the key that parallels the Sarasota city boundary that extends to that new county line along the bayfront of the mainland was removed from the city boundaries at the request of John Ringling in the mid-1920s, who sought to avoid city taxation of his planned developments at the southern tip of the key. Although they never were completed in the quickly faltering economy, those development concessions granted by the city never were reversed and the county has retained regulation of those lands.
The city limits had expanded significantly with the real estate rush of the early twentieth century, reaching almost 70 square miles (180 km2). The wild speculation boom began to crash in 1926 and following that, the city limits began to contract, shrinking to less than a quarter of that area.
The area is known today as Sarasota first appeared on a sheepskin Spanish map from 1763 with the word Zarazote over present-day Sarasota and Bradenton. From 1883 to 1885, The Florida Mortgage And Investment Company Of Edinburgh bought 60,000 acres for development in what is now the City of Sarasota. Many Scottish people began to arrive in Sarasota in December 1885. The municipal government of Sarasota was established when it was incorporated as a town in 1902. John Gillespie was the first Mayor.
Italian architecture and culture are quite strong in the area because of the Ringling Museum. An unusually large number of homes and buildings are designed in the Italian style, especially Venetian as influenced by Ringling's Cà d'Zan. Italian-inspired statues are also common and Michelangelo's David is used as the symbol of Sarasota.

Built in 1887 and designed by the New York-based architecture firm of Carrère and Hastings, this Spanish Renaissance-style building was built by Henry Flagler in an effort to draw wealthy tourists to the warm winter climate of Florida. When opened, the hotel featured a large amenity wing in the rear, which housed the world’s largest indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a lounge, a bowling alley, and a spa, which featured turkish baths and a massage parlor. In addition, the building featured a spacious interior courtyard encircled by shops, and a three-story ballroom. The hotel served to extend the capacity of the larger and more popular Ponce de Leon Hotel across the street, which had been completed by Flagler prior to the Alcazar. The hotel was enlarged by the construction of a skybridge over Cordova Street and subsequent annexation of the adjacent Cordova (Casa Monica) Hotel in 1902, which increased the number of guest rooms and guest amenities available at the hotel. In 1932, following the onset of the Great Depression and subsequent reduction in tourist visits, the Hotel Alcazar closed. The hotel was utilized by the federal government during World War II, with the skybridge over Cordova Street being demolished in 1945. In 1947, the hotel was purchased by Otto C. Lightner, a publisher from Chicago, and was converted into a hobbies museum, which was turned over to the city of St. Augustine in 1948. The northern portion of the building, which encircles the interior courtyard and was formerly home to guest rooms, shops, and the main lobby, is now utilized as St. Augustine City Hall. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
