India’s national car, the Hindustan Ambassador, ruled the roads for more than 50 years. Based on the Morris Oxford Series III, the Ambassador became India’s first car in 1957 and was produced virtually unchanged until 2014. It became part of the Indian way of life and a symbol of style and status.

An all-purpose car with room for six and a large boot, it was the transport for government officials and well-off families and served as a taxi everywhere.

This 1992 ‘Amby’ worked in Mumbai for many years before coming to the UK and registered J595 DUL as a special themed taxi in London. Now on show at Haynes Motor Museum.

AMC Ambassadors were not uncommon here in The Netherlands in the 1970s. Most I remember were the ones with the facelifted front and 5 mph bumpers. A friend send me these photos..

I'm back from a 3 week trip through southern India. It was fun to spend part of the trip touring in the iconic car of India, a white Hindustan Ambassador, like this one parked in Madurai.

Originally Dutch delivered AMC Ambassador.

Their footfalls are quiet, undetectable. The muted jungle noise melts out their shuffling along the front porch. The comms headset in the pointman’s helmet chatters away, the voice ordering different units around the house. The living room and kitchen have already been cleared; the ambassador must be in the master bedroom. His children and wife will be killed, and he will be transported to a detention centre in Eastern Eurasia where he will live out the rest of his short, meaningless life.

After the Oceanic withdrawal from the offensive front in the DRC, the UFA’s attacks were severely weakened. The main Eurasian offensive was launched with a rapid push into Angola and Botswana. Fighting in the rural regions was brutal, with massive armour battles in Angola continuing deep into late 2036. A massive offensive was launched to seize Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. Initial strikes by Eurasia consisted of kidnapping and torturing high raking officials, including an ambassador between the UFA collation and the NATO alliance, a resident of the hills around Gaborone. A bloody battle was about to ensue in Gaborone and these raids were just the start.

Now I know what you're thinking, how could a car that looks this old be built in 2006?

Basically, because the car has been in production with no external changes since 1958. The Hindustan Ambassador was a license built version of the Morris Oxford, the first Ambassadors to be sold in India were in 1957, but even though production of the Oxford ended in 1959, the popularity of the four-door saloon design meant it made ideal family cars and taxis, so much so that they continued to build it right through until earlier this year when production ceased after 56 years.

This one however has a little memento of its Oxford origins with the small name on its bonnet.

The Ambassador Bridge has been a landmark in Detroit since opening in 1929. It's an attractive suspension bridge over the Detroit River from Detroit, Michigan USA to Windsor, Ontario Canada. The total length is 7500 ft (2286 meters).

There has been quite a controversy lately about the construction of a second bridge. The owner of the Ambassador Bridge, Manuel "Matty" Maroun, quite understandably, wants to own the new bridge, and he (his company) wants to build it alongside the current bridge. Michigan's current Governor, Rick Snyder, and the Windsor officials want the bridge built further downriver to allieviate traffic in the cities and to provide a direct link from I-75 highway in Michigan to Ontario highway. Maroun has spent several millions of dollars in advertising/lobbying to support his position.

We'll see who wins, if anyone.

The iconic neon rooftop sign of the Ambassador Hotel has beckoned guests into downtown Milwaukee’s most distinctive travel experience for nearly a century

I came across a vintage car tour I did not know about, some nice cars participating, but this was really the star of the show - a 1950 Nash Airflyte Ambassador from the UK, and the only one there according the owner. Door mounted 1990s Chevrolet mirrors are a shame, but the previous owner in Vancouver had them installed. The current owner has a set original mirrors, but installing them will require some body work to cover up the holes of the Chevy mirrors.
