The green Amazon Parrot with the striking yellow head is quite intelligent. In captivity, it can be a good mimicker of human speech and household sounds. The Parrot is endangered primarily due to habitat loss and the pet trade. I saw this beauty at the Alligator Farm, he can whistle, say hi and pretty boy.

Blue and Gold Macaw

On a recent visit to Ocean City, Maryland we stayed in an oceanfront hotel that has the most remarkable indoor atrium. The atrium is large, with a large koi pond that winds it way along the length of the room. The pond is surrounded with tropical plants, three live macaws, and this beautiful Amazon parrot. The macaws, while beautiful, merely squawked now and then, but this parrot talked. His vocabulary consists of "hello" and " where ya goin?" I really like this parrot, and had fun chatting with him several years ago when we stayed at the same hotel. They used to have the birds' names on their cages, but the name tags are now gone, replaced with warnings about feeding or touching the birds. If I remember correctly, on our previous visit this parrot's name was Charlie. Ocean City, Maryland.

A flock of Santarem Parakeets, with gray, white, and black plumage and striking yellow beaks, perch on the bare branches of a tree in the Encantada Forest near Santarém, deep in the Brazilian Amazon. The overcast sky and lush greenery in the background evoke a serene and mysterious mood, characteristic of the rainforest.

Roni is the mascot of Marta, and has been commissioned to train him from very tiny, during the 17 years who is with us at home.

The parrot usually enjoy long life. A specimen of average size can last between fifty and sixty years or more. They are quite intelligent and awake.

They require lots of attention, affection and companionship, because they offer the same affection.

When they feel alone they get depressed, and express it removing itself the pens one to one, and pecking the bars of the cage. It is his way of calling the attention.

But when they are happy they demonstrate with shouts, guffaws or imitations.

By the kitchen window. Can't believe she's been with me since I was 19 yrs old.

This woman had four parrots with her on holiday.

This image of an Amazon Parrot was taken at Gatorland in Orlando, Florida. He was one of many beautiful birds that enjoyed talking and jabbering with the visitors.
