I have some loquat trees in my back yard. Every year in late winter and early spring, the fruit ripens and I get an invasion of Cedar Waxwings eating the loquats. This was taken out the window of my house from about 15 feet away.

"Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. We need hours of aimless wandering or spates of time sitting on park benches, observing the mysterious world of ants and the canopy of treetops." Maya Angelou
There is an absolutely gorgeous park in Altamonte Springs---Cranes Roost Park.
From its website:
"Cranes Roost Park is at the heart of Uptown Altamonte surrounding Cranes Roost Lake. The lake is encircled by one mile of continuous walkway with benches and covered seating areas. Within the 45-acre park is a European-style plaza including a choreographed fountain show, a 62-foot picturesque tower and the Eddie Rose Amphitheater which features stadium-style seating and a one-of-a-kind floating stage."
A look at my photostream in recent years and you'd be hard pressed to see that I'm actually a Florida-based photographer. After hiking in the mountains and among waterfalls, there's a certain peace you find find walking through Florida's wild fields of palmettos, even if it requires wet feet to do it.
Other than the fact that the tower is 62 feet high, I couldn't find any more information as to its meaning or significance. It's located in the beautiful Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Happy Bench Monday!
Saturday, May 22, 2010
This afternoon I embarked upon a 4-hour road trip to Florida's Sun Coast. I'm spending the night in St Petersburg before assisting on a photog gig tomorrow at 9 AM.
I-4 constituted the main stretch of my drive. On several occasions this controversial unfinished 18-story building in Altamonte Springs has caught my eye. SuperChannel, a local Orlando Christian television station, broke ground in 2000, vowing to construct the building debt-free, and relying largely upon charitable contributions to fund the project. The original estimated completion date of 2002 has most recently been moved back to 2012 (as of March 2010). The company builds when it receives money from its viewers. In November 2008, a reporter calculated the cost of the project at roughly $72.1 million to date -- more than twice the original budget -- whereas a loan would have cost about $50.5 million. A blogger compared the Majesty Building to the Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea, whose construction began in 1987 and resumed in 2008 after a 16-year hiatus. Meanwhile, some local residents refer to the eyesore as The Mistake by the Lake.
As I approached the building while westbound on I-4, I grabbed my camera and snapped through my car window. I've geotagged it in case you'd like to stop by for a look-see!
While photographing this scene, a man walked across the train trestle, which really added to the shot. It's quite high and there are no railings...I'd be too afraid. Norman's Kill, Altamonte, NY.

For this is what the Lord says:
“I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried on her arm
and dandled on her knees.
As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”
When you see this, your heart will rejoice
and you will flourish like grass;
the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants,
but his fury will be shown to his foes.
[Isaiah 66:12-14 NIV]
5 MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)
2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)
3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)
4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)
5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. 14 “For a long time I have kept silent,
I have been quiet and held myself back.
But now, like a woman in childbirth,
I cry out, I gasp and pant.
15 I will lay waste the mountains and hills
and dry up all their vegetation;
I will turn rivers into islands
and dry up the pools.
16 I will lead the blind by ways they have not known,
along unfamiliar paths I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them
and make the rough places smooth.
These are the things I will do;
I will not forsake them.
17 But those who trust in idols,
who say to images, ‘You are our gods,’
will be turned back in utter shame.

now that this store is a publix (across the street from a publix), here's a scanned version of the 35mm picture I took of the altamonte safeway from 2016!
This mother Virginia Opossum was carrying her babies through the back yard early one morning this spring. She was moving pretty quickly and ducking behind bushes most of the time. I was shooting this handheld and panning at 1/40 of a second. I was surprised it turned out at all. I cropped in a bit to show the babies better.

(from biblegateway.com)
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.

1 Oh, what joy for those
whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!
2 Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!
3 When I refused to confess my sin,
my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.
4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude
5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude
6 Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.
7 For you are my hiding place;
you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude
8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
9 Do not be like a senseless horse or mule
that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”
10 Many sorrows come to the wicked,
but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord.
11 So rejoice in the Lord and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!

Cedar Waxwings just started showing up here in Central Florida in the past week or so. They were a bit late in arriving this winter.
This was taken a couple of winters ago. A few Cedar Waxwings were drinking and bathing in the gutter on my house after a rain storm. I was able to get within a few feet of this one for a decent portrait shot.
