The barasingha, also called swamp deer, is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent. Populations in northern and central India are fragmented, and two isolated populations occur in southwestern Nepal. It has been extirpated in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and its presence is uncertain in Bhutan.
The swamp deer differs from all other Indian deer species in that the antlers carry more than three tines. Because of this distinctive character it is designated bārah-singgā, meaning "twelve-horned" in Hindustani. Mature stags usually have 10 to 14 tines, and some have been known to have up to 20.
In Assamese, barasingha is called dolhorina; dol meaning swamp. (Wikipedia)

Also known as Black-Crowned Night Heron, mainly roost in the daytime, they have several key adaptations which other herons don't, that allow for their special feeding behavior. Large, red, light-gathering eyes enable Night Herons to hunt diurnally at dawn, dusk, and into the darkness.

Cable Cars wait to be turned at the end of the line in Powell Street, San Francisco.
I kept an afternoon free to ride the city's iconic cable cars, which was as well, as I spent most of my time standing in impossibly long queues waiting to board the cars. Still, I had plenty of time to line up shots and make the odd video or two.

Historical country house also to be opened to the public
As of 1 September, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam will be using the historical country house, Trompenburg, as an extra location. Trompenburg, which is close to Hilversum, was built after 1677 by Admiral Cornelis Tromp (1621-1691), the son of the legendary Admiral Maarten Harpertsz Tromp. The residence, that was built to resemble a ship, will be open for use by the Rijksmuseum from 1 April to 1 October for holding lectures, small conferences and small-scale exhibitions. In addition, Trompenburg will also be opened to the public a few times each year.
A monument for the Tromp family
Throughout the years, Trompenburg House has been a home to different families, and has been in the care of the Government Buildings Agency as a monument since 1938. Cornelis Tromp, who was the commander-in-chief of the Dutch and Danish fleet, built Trompenburg as a monument for himself and his ancestors, his father in particular. The Tromp family's glory is the theme of the dome hall - which can be seen as the maritime answer to the Oranjezaal, the central chamber in Huis ten Bosch Palace. The dome hall contains the portraits of father and son Tromp and both their wives, portraits of the ships and the naval battles.
Decoration and exhibitions
Trompenburg will not be used for large exhibitions, as the country residence is too small. However, the Rijksmuseum is considering whether the house could be decorated with art works on a limited scale. Where possible, any art work that is selected will be in keeping with the themes of life on a 17th Century country estate and the maritime history of the period of 1630 and 1690.
Due to the limited capacity of Trompenburg House, the exhibitions as well as the lectures and conferences will all be small-scale. The house will be opened to the public once a month during the April-October season (six times in total). A steward will reside at Trompenburg House.

Nepenthes (/nɪˈpɛnθiːz/) is a genus of carnivorous plants, also known as tropical pitcher plants, or monkey cups, in the monotypic family Nepenthaceae. The genus comprises about 170 species, and numerous natural and many cultivated hybrids. They are mostly liana-forming plants of the Old World tropics, ranging from South China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines; westward to Madagascar (two species) and the Seychelles (one); southward to Australia (three) and New Caledonia (one); and northward to India (one) and Sri Lanka (one). The greatest diversity occurs on Borneo, Sumatra, and the Philippines, with many endemic species. Many are plants of hot, humid, lowland areas, but the majority are tropical montane plants, receiving warm days but cool to cold, humid nights year round. A few are considered tropical alpine, with cool days and nights near freezing. The name "monkey cups" refers to the fact that monkeys have been observed drinking rainwater from these plants.
The genus name Nepenthes was first published in 1737 in Carl Linnaeus's Hortus Cliffortianus. It references a passage in Homer's Odyssey, in which the potion "Nepenthes pharmakon" is given to Helen by an Egyptian queen. "Nepenthe" literally means "without grief" (ne = not, penthos = grief) and, in Greek mythology, is a drug that quells all sorrows with forgetfulness. Linnaeus explained:
If this is not Helen's Nepenthes, it certainly will be for all botanists. What botanist would not be filled with admiration if, after a long journey, he should find this wonderful plant. In his astonishment past ills would be forgotten when beholding this admirable work of the Creator!
Autumn also brings a lot of changes to the birds, and very noticeable is the one on the finches that completely lose their bright yellow plumage to a mix of very dull green-yellowish that makes us to take a second look.
Right now here in PA the rain has started and many trees have lost their leaves, but they still have a unique charm specially at the end of a sunny day. The wind has move from place to place tons of leaves that are forming colorful skirts which now makes it difficult to know from which tree were originally from.
This image had only a white background so I decided to merge a second one with autumn leaves.
Perfect for the autumn mood...

Also known as Mangrove Heron, this is a small heron maybe about 40-45 cms tall. They are resident birds of the country found usually around streams, wetlands and mangroves sighted often on the banks or shallow waters hunting small reptiles, fish or crustaceans.
The bird is usually found solitary unlike the other herons which are often seen in small numbers. In the Mangroves of Goa, they were sighted in good numbers (always solitary) on the banks of the long river, at the base of bridge pylons, or in the small streams that were flowing into the Zuari River. The birds were quite happily hunting the fish caught in the nets setup by the fishermen, or catching the small fiddler crabs that were busy on the shallow banks. Some places, they were close to the many crocodiles, but they seemed to be adept at avoiding the large reptiles.

Tragedy and Fate...
Nicht meine Art. von Fotografie, aber auch das gehört nun mal dazu es spielen sich jeden tag Tragödien ab, große und kleine… und manche die kaum für uns mittlerweile wahrnehmbar sind.
Not my way. of photography, but that's also part of it, tragedies take place every day, big and small... which are hardly perceptible to us in the meantime.
Thanks for your Views Faves and Comments, have a Great Weekend. 🌞✌
Also known as a Grizzly. This healthy boar was seen and admired in the Tetons with good friends Debbie Tubridy, Jen Hall and Rodney Lange.
"Meriwether Lewis and William Clark first described it as grisley, which could be interpreted as either "grizzly" (i.e., "grizzled"—that is, with golden and grey tips of the hair) or "grisly" ("fear-inspiring", now usually "gruesome"). The modern spelling supposes the former meaning; even so, naturalist George Ord formally classified it in 1815 as U. horribilis, not for its hair, but for its character.
Occasionally a huge male grizzly has been recorded, whose size greatly exceeds ordinary, with weights reported up to 680 kg (1,500 lb). A large coastal male of this size may stand up to 3 metres (9.8 ft) tall on its hind legs and be up to 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) at the shoulder.
A grizzly bear can also be identified by its rump, which is lower than its shoulders; a black bear's rump is higher than its shoulders. A grizzly bear's front claws measure about 2–4 inches in length; a black bear's claws measure about 1–2 inches in length." Wikipedia
Was a treat to safely enjoy the scavenging, digging and hunting for more food before his time to hibernate.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Also known as the Little Banded Goshawk, this is a ferocious raptor that attacks birds in their nests and deep inside canopy. The birds are patient and will wait for the right moment to strike. Often they attack the chicks in the nests, or even the parents. The birds are common in the countryside and seen a lot, but hard to get a decent shot.
On this day, I sighted this bird pulling out worms from the ground - something that I found very surprising and was new to me. But apparently, its a normal behaviour. The worms are coming out of the soil and we sighted 2 Shikras on the ground pulling them out and consuming them. This happened for over 30 mins, but the bird moved further and further away soon due to our presence.
