The Alpine Pond in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve was constructed in the 1950s to provide water for the ranching and agriculture operations.

From this pond, continue your hike on Ipiwa Trail, Sunny Jim Trail and Horseshoe Loop Trail. It's about 4.3 miles with 700 ft elevation gain.

A small alpine pond on Mt. Velouchi, Evrytania, Greece

Much more poetic than "Selenium is the Soft Light of Dawn" I think. 4am at 9000 feet on Mount Baker. That's Canada on the other side of those Mountains. Sometimes it worth getting up before the light.

Green algae blooms discolor the water on the surface of a pond. It is commonly referred to as "pond scum" or "pond moss" and typically forms greenish mats upon the water's surface.

My favorite spot is by the lake,

With forest by the side,

'Cause in the fall with colors bright,

Its' beauty we can't hide.

When the water's ruffled by the breeze,

And it laps upon the shore,

The sound is very soothing and it,

Makes me yearn for more.

The scent of leaves upon the ground,

Is the only one of its' kind and no aroma in all the world,

Is such a perfect find.

Reflections on the water of the,

Trees are that of fire,

And when I look up to the trees,

Their beauty reaches higher.

The peacefulness that lies abound,

Upon the lake all o'er,

Has been there for a thousand years,

And sure to be much more.

Two hikers walk through a tunnel driven in three-quarter circles into the walls of a hillside at the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve, a regional park located in the Santa Cruz Mountains in San Mateo County, California along the San Francisco Peninsula.

The tunnel leads to the David C. Daniels Nature Center at Russian Ridge. The Center overlooks Alpine Pond and was originally opened to the public in 1996.

This Valley Oak is just off the parking lot at Russian Ridge on the trail to Alpine Pond. The low clouds this morning hugged the Santa Cruz Mountains making this a cold and damp walk.

Compare this with my previous photo from May 2017:

Lake that is part of the Russian Ridge Preserve in the Santa Cruz mountains. This was taken late on an October afternoon after a pleasant walk with friends. We would usually go in the spring to see the wild flowers but it's also beautiful in the autumn, especially when lockdown meant that the usual spring walk did not happen.

The building is the nature center. Alas closed. But it's usually excellent (when open...).

I love the alpine pond below Guye Peak near the saddle between Guye and Cave Ridge. While the pond was lower than usual, the grass around it was beautifully green.
