Former site of MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios) lot #5. In the early 1970s MGM sold off the lot and it was turned into a shopping center with an Alpha Beta Supermarket. It operated as an Alpha Beta Supermarket until around 1992/1993 when the Parent Company of Boys Supermarkets took over the Ralphs Grocery Company. Yucaipa Company was the name of the parent organization. The Boys had acquired parts of the Alpha Beta Chain years earlier. After the merger of the Boys Chain with the Ralphs chain, they combined all their Supermarkets into two divisions: Ralphs and Food 4 Less. This store became a Ralphs Supermarket. Located at the intersection of Jefferson and Overland in Culver City. Note the original Green, white and grey tile from when the store was an Alpha Beta. Additionally over the years the store was expanded on the left side of the building taking over a couple of smaller shops to enlarge the supermarket to its current size, this was done during its Alpha Beta phase. The store has been remodeled a couple of time by Ralphs Supermarkets since being converted to a Ralphs in or around 1992/1993..

The Contaflex Alpha and Contaflex Beta, both introduced in 1957, were based on the same body but equipped with a Zeiss Pantar 45mm f:2.8 three-element lens and a Prontor Reflex shutter up to 1/300. They were the cheaper models of the line. The Alpha had no meter and the Beta had the selenium meter of the II and IV.

The front element of the lens could be interchanged with others for 30mm f:4 and 75mm f:4. These could also be used on the Contina III 35mm viewfinder camera.

About Amazon Studios’ Bosch

Based on Michael Connelly’s internationally best-selling Harry Bosch book series with nearly 50 million copies sold,Bosch follows relentless LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood. Primarily based on elements from Connelly’s books City of Bones (2002), The Concrete Blonde (1994) and Echo Park (2006), Bosch’s investigation takes on a life and death urgency when a killer who has confessed to the boy’s murder escapes custody and begins a murderous rampage across Los Angeles. He and the killer are locked in a cat and mouse game, with the killer taunting Bosch as the investigation turns deeply personal. The case unearths Bosch’s buried past as well as entangling his ex-wife and 14-year-old daughter. The season takes the viewer through back streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles rarely seen on-screen.

The title is something of a family joke as my Dad and I often refer to wherever we've set camp as 'The Alpha Site'.

This is the first time I've taken a hi res image of my wild camp set up as I generally just use my phone for photographs when out and about these days as it's less cumbersome. However I've started itching to get back out with my camera more as I find new places to explore.

Today saw me buying two OS maps that relate to the Sandstone Trail in Cheshire/Shropshire which is a 34 mile walk through the countryside of both counties.

Hopefully I'll be joined by Karen and Merlin for a couple of nights aways camping at spots along the way as I'd like to spend time exploring some the castles along the route.

Anyway, a brief explanation of the set up you see here.

I use a NATO issue Multi Terrain Pattern (MTP) shelter which is attached to a 550 cor ridgeline between two trees using S-Biners at either end and two Prussik knots to keep the tension. I then just carve some basic pegs from deadfall branches to peg the Shelter down.

I also use a NATO issue Gore-Tex MTP bivi bag into which goes a 3/4 length self inflating mat and my Snugpak sleeping bag.

The backpack is the KarrimorSF Sabre 45 which I've had almost a year now and find truly an excellent pack! On this occasion I don't have the PLCE side pouches attached as I was only out for the evening.

Hanging from the ridgeline, you'll find the bag for my shelter (which contains the bags/compression sacks for everything else I'm using) along with a Petzl TacTikka Headtorch and an AP Pro Series 120 lumens torch. Also you'll find an Olive Shemagh which can be used as a scarf/towel/basic water filter and many more things.

There's also a small monocular hanging up which would normally be kept in the top pocket of my pack however there's plenty of wildlife around so I kept it out.

Cooking wise I took the Bushbox XL with me as it's always great to have a fire of some kind and with the ground being so dry I'd rather not risk an open fire as such. I had water on hand at all times whilst the fire was going which ended up being until around 11.30pm as it was incredibly effective as repelling the local Mozzie population!

If you have any questions or want to know more then just leave a comment or flickr mail me.

I've said way too much on this pic already so I'm gonna stop typing now!!

after hiking up a river gorge (challenging both my physical and mental strength to the max!) dr janet and i finally reached the 100 ft waterfall at the end of the 'trail' (very euphemistic) and took a welcome shower before having to face the homeward stretch...

What makes for the ultimate road trip? Hitchhiking, truck stops, angry bears, prickly porcupines and a golfing goose with a duck caddy. Just ask Kate and Humphrey, two wolves who are trying to get home after being taken by park rangers and shipped halfway across the country. Humphrey is an Omega wolf, whose days are about quick wit, snappy one-liners and hanging with his motley crew of fun-loving wolves and video-gaming squirrels. Kate is an Alpha: duty, discipline and sleek Lara Croft eye-popping moves fuel her fire. Humphrey’s motto – make ‘em laugh. Kate’s motto – I’m the boss. And they have a thousand miles to go.

Back home rival wolf packs are on the march and conflict is brewing. Only Kate and Humphrey can restore the peace. But first, they have to survive each other.
